So, I decided to use some leftover pineapple I have on the fridge to make a mask. mixing it wiht a little honey, yogurt and EOs. Long story short, after using it, I feel like my skin is better, and it has that rosy color. Really like it. However, there is one problem. I do not like the consistency. It is too runny. I had to keep wiping the drips off of my chin. Is there anything that I can put in it to make it less runny?
cheers

How about adding some sort of powdered clay?

For my aspirin mask I use equal amounts crushed aspirin, kaolin clay, and bind it all with aloe gel.

If your skin is oily at all, this would probably be a great addition. If you're dry though (not a problem I generally have) it probably wouldn't be the best.

tularyn: my skin is dry, so i dont know if i want to use the kaolin clay. I tried to keep adding oatmeal(ok, it might not be the greatest idea) but it is still kinda runny.

Hmmm... what if you ground up the oatmeal to make it more of a powder (which might be more thickening/absorbent than the regular oatmeal)?

Or squeezing the pineapple to remove some of the juice before you add it in?

The only other thing I can think of is mixing in a little bit of gelatin--b/c that should thicken it right up, but I don't know if that would have negative effects. Also--I don't know if you'd need to dissolve the gelatin first in a little bit of water before adding it, or if it would thicken up the mixture just by adding it.

I'm not sure how I feel about gelatin (how ridiculous do I sound? I'm sure I didn't contemplate deeply the contents of my pantry before finding EDS!!!)... I tried the recipe for homemade circle buster and it dried very quickly and made my skin feel tight and didn't have any effects, but it was recommended by people who know a whole more about this than I do, so it could just be that I did it wrong.

Maybe someone else will jump in w/ better suggestions or comments on these.

In any event, good luck and keep us posted!

I got curious and googled... and found this blurb about the different kind of clays:

Bentonite Clay: This is a soft moisturizing clay, used as a suspending agent, emulsifier, thickener, binder and absorbent. Used in natural beauty products for oily skin types. Is used in facial masks to draw out impurities in the skin that can cause Acne and Pimples. Especially good for oily skin. Makes a great addition to shaving soaps to give a glide to the razor.

French Green Clay: One of the most widely used medicinal clay in the world. The structure of the clay allows for a high level of absorption and is a very good clay for helping Acne and to balance combination skin and to normalize oily skin. Best used for oily skin and hair types. Use once a week when using in Facial Masks. Can be used to add color to soaps and to help with facial cleansing as well as in a Shampoo Bar.

Red Clay: Is less absorbant than Green Clay but is a very cleansing clay. Helps draw out excessive oils from the skin and hair. Helps with bringing more circulation to the skin. For Normal to Oily skin types. Use once a week when using in Facial Masks. Can be used to add color to soaps.

Rose Clay: Also known as Pink Clay. This is a gentle clay that gently expholiates the skin and helps bringing more circulation to the skin. For Normal to Dry skin types. Use once a week when using in Facial Masks. Can be used to add color to soaps.

White Kaolin: These are the lightest and mildest clay and are the most gently on the skin. It helps to balance the skins moisture levels and acts as a mild cleanser. Is said to not draw oils from the skin. This is a gentle clay that gently expholiates the skin and helps bringing more circulation to the skin. Can be used in making natural body powders along with facial masks. For Dry to Sensitive skin types.

(from http://www.tlcsoaps.com/herb.htm)

I always thought any clay = oil absorbing, but it looks like I was wrong! I might start using my red clay or french green clay w/ my aspirin mask instead. And you might want to try rose clay or white kaolin clay as a thickening agent.

I haven't seen rose clay, but I know that both the health food stores in my town sell the white kaolin clay by Now Foods Co. There are also numerous sources online.

Hope this helps!
