I don't know if any of you remember the problems we have had with Josie's digestive system. She is having hairballs that are not being sicked up and then they are getting blocked in her bowls.
The vet has just been giving us lactolose or Lx to administer to her.

I have heard that there is stuff available that can disolve the hairballs in the stomach.
As I am going to be in the US, I was wondering if there is any 'top notch' potent stuff I can buy over the counter while I am there.

Sorry that I can't help with such a recommendation, but this might help your Josie.

We'll be shortly buying a Furminator - an extremely effective grooming tool that removes mountains of spare fur. As our own pusscat can't take anti-furball medication due to her dodgy digestive system, this should help to cut down on them forming in the first place. This is where you can buy them in the UK:
www.simpsons-online.co.uk

I first heard about them onwww.catchat.org. One of their resident moggies, Colonel Beau, loves his and his people tell me that it's incredibly effective.

I did see a video demo a while ago and there were immense clouds of fur flying off a very contented-looking ginger boy! Apparently, this is exactly what happened with Colonel Beau too.

Hope that helps, as I know how much of a worrying problem it can be.

Rosebud, are you regularly brushing your cat? It may help your cat tremendously from a daily brush and the ingestion of hair wouldn't be that great. Check the mineral oil thing with your vet. Seems to me, my mother used to give a good dose to our cats whenever they had hairball problems.

Gee, the only thing I remember about hairball problems with my cats as a kid was mum used to force feed them codliver oil. I forget now which end that helped push them out of though...

THE ABSOLUTE BEST product I have tried for this is CAT LUBE Hairball and Digestion Aid by Vet's Best.

http://www.vetsbest.com/

This stuff has worked MIRACLES on my furry, old cat. I've seen it ocassionally in Petco but you might have to order it.

Just a warning to be careful about giving your cats cod liver oil. It can be very harmful if you give too much.

Cats are tricky creatures - so many things that are fine for us and other animals are dangerous for them.
