I don't wear makeup at all. Usually I use Dermalogica or Cetaphil only. Would you please help me find a good cleanser to remove Shishedo SPF55 sunscreen at night? A PP mentioned EVOO, Castor or Canolla, Where to find these oil? Or do I just use cooking oil? Any other suggestions? TIA!!

Susan,
I use the Shiseido Sun Protection Liquid Foundation SPF 42 occasionally and just ordered the SPF55 sunscreen. I use the Shiseido Ultimate Cleansing Oil to remove the foundation and it works great. Actually I love the cleansing oil so much that I use it every evening even if I don't wear makeup or waterproof sunscreen! It is supposed to remove all of the Shiseido Sunscreen products. I use the cleansing oil first and then use my regular cleanser. My skin feels clean after I use the cleansing oil but I am nervous about not using another cleanser afterwards. I have used samples of the Kanebo cleansing oil and the DHC cleansing oil. The Kanebo worked very well at removing waterproof sunscreen. I did not have makeup or waterproof sunscreen on when I used the DHC so I can't comment on that but it seems like it would work well also.
The cleansing oils I mentioned have emulsifiers so I am not sure how using regular oils would work. However, I am interested in what others will have to say about this. |

Hi! For me, it depends if my skin has been feeling a bit dry or a bit oily. If my skin has been feeling dry, I use Beauty Without Vruelty's Herbal Cream Cleanser. It feels like a thick cream, so the first time I used it I thought it couldn't possibly take all of my sunscreen and make up off, but it did and it left my skin feeling smoother than a baby's bottom!! If your skin tends to be more oily, I like Juice Beauty's Green Apple face wash. Oil, Make up, waterproof sunscreen--- it busts it all up and smells great too. |

Hello,
I personally use an oil-based cleanser to thoroughly get rid of sunscreen residue or else my sensitive/combo skin will break out.
I have used shu uemura's cleansing oil, but was not happy to discover that it uses pure mineral oil. I have since moved on to a product that uses rice bran oil as its base.
Vernacular Skin Works' Mild Facial Cleansing Oil http://www.vernacularskinworks.com/cleansingoil.html.
The ingredients are:
rice bran oil, Di-PPG-2 Myreth-10 Adipate, fractionated coconut oil, vitamin e
To be honest, I'm not keen on any residue left on my face, so I usually use another cleanser after using the oil cleanser. I'm paranoid I'll break out into whiteheads and or rashes again.

WhiteLotus I took a look at the Vernacular Skin Works web site. They seem to have some nice products that would be good for sensitive skin. Have you used any of their other products? I have almost the same skin type as you and would be interested in hearing about your experiences with any of these products. BTW I also have that paranoia about using just cleansing oil to clean my face. Do you actually feel residue on your face after you use the Vernacular cleansing oil? I don't feel residue on my face after using the Shiseido oil but I feel like I should use another cleanser anyway. |

joziegrozy: I read somewhere a long long long time ago that petroleum-based (that's what mineral oil is) products are not ideal for skincare...that has stuck with me ever since even though it may not be true nowadays.
TheresaL: I've only used Vernacular's cleansing oil. I have not tried the other products as I am using SRCPs (skin remodeling copper peptides) by SkinBio to try to deal with my sundamaged/hyperpigmented face. I confess that I am addicted to the "squeaky clean" feel of skin, so even if the Vernacular rinses completely off, my skin doesn't feel clean to me, hence the follow up with another cleanser. |

sc,
I also use SPF 55. I get my EVOO (Extra-Virgin-Olive Oil) at my food store in the cooking oil asile you can also get Canolla oil there. I think I got Castor oil at Wal-Mart in the laxitive area...you might have to ask a clerk. Some people get Castor oil at a health-food type store.
You can mix it any way you want. |

When I tried the OCM, I got the castor oil at the drugstore in the laxatives aisle. They're generally sold in small (4oz?) bottles, pretty generic looking. Canola and EVOO were purchased from the grocery store. I figured I could always use them for cooking if I didn't like putting them on my face. |

Thank you everyone for all the grest info.
I just want to clarify this: After I massage the oil on to my face, do I rinse w/ water than use my regular cleanser? Is there any special tips for using oil? I still feel a little funny/uncomfortable using oil on my T-zone face.

It bothered me too. I have very oily skin and it just made me shivver thinking about it!
I've been doing it about a month and quite happy with it. As with everything, you can "tweek" it to work for you.
Most of the time I don't wash after using the oils. I also have found my skin seems to like the oils and I haven't had any problems with leaving it on. |

I wear the Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion SPF55 everyday and have found that normal cleansers are not strong enough to get it all off. If I'm lazy and use my regular Alpha Hydrox face wash at night, then I'm pretty much guaranteed to get clogged pores + breakouts a week or two later. So I use a homemade cleansing oil that is approximtely 1/3 cold-pressed castor seed oil, 1/3 extra virgin olive oil, 1/3 grapeseed oil and with a bit of lemon essential oil mixed in. I use the oil cleansing method mentioned elsewhere on these boards (massage oil in for a few minutes, then use hot water + washcloth to remove) and it works great. No need to use a separate cleanser afterwards, though if you're bothered by the slight bit of oil left over (sometimes it takes awhile to get everything off), you can use a toner to get rid of it. HTH! |

Hello, not sure which "oil" you mean , but:
If you are using the OCM method (castor/evoo combo) to cleanse you would need to wipe it off with a hot face towel (hot enough to tolerate, not burn) several times (rinse and wring out after each time) until it feels like the oil is completely wiped off.
If you are refering to the all-in-one/water-soluble cleansing oils like shu uemura or Vernacular, massage the oil onto dry skin then you pat a little water onto the face to create a lather then splash rinse your face clean.
For the non-soluble cleansing oils, again massage onto dry skin then you need to wipe off as much of the oil as you can with a tissue then follow up with a milky or foaming cleanser.
HTH, but any other EDS forum members are more then welcome to correct me if I missed a step and or stated something incorrectly. |

Hi Susan,
I would recommend you to try DHC's deep cleansing oil. unlike cooking oil, DHC's oil cleanser dissolves instantly the moment it hits water and everything comes off with this cleanser, including waterproof eyeliner and mascara. it really purges the pores too |
