ARRRRRGH... someone help me get rid of an eye tic.
Last night suddenly the outside corner of my lower eye lid (right eye) started twitching on an off (for about 30 seconds every 10 min or so) and 24 hours later it is driving me INSANE.
I always thought these things were just a sign of stress, but I am not under any stress at the moment (other than the damned twitch )
Anyone got a home remedy? (wish it was as easy as say drinking water upside down or something... Hmm.. eye hiccups?)

Sorry, no easy solution from me, however someone recommended that I take vitamin B (B6?) to get rid of it. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind that other than the stress connection. I do get them sometimes and they last a few days and then just go away.
Go have a relaxing bath, close your eyes, put an eye mask on and try to breathe deeply and not think about it. Then go to sleep. If it is stress related then this should help - if not then it's still good for you
ps. Btw, AFAIK stress lowers the body's amount of vit B, so if you've been stressed latey it might be a good idea to take it anyway... |

I think every one gets little tics from time to time, and they're generally transient. If it's really bugging you and is persistant, maybe an herbal muscle relaxer..? I mean catnip! I drink catnip tea when I have menstrual cramps, and it helps. My kitty LOVES me when I have cramps. |

Yes, something to relax myself.. a bottle of whiskey? Actually I have gone almost 3 hours without a twitch. It feels like heaven. |

Tiger_tim: Let me know if you found a remedy. My husband suffers from it for over a year now. Our doctor said it's just muscle contraction and most of the time it's from stress. Putting a tape on it helps but he can not have tape on him all the time. |

Oh man I can remember the first time I had a tick thing in the upper eye lid, it was so strong I'm sure ppl could see it!
A good vitamin B complex is great for stuff like that.. I actually feel like $^#% when I forget to take my complex. |

I will try some Vit. B .. and i read magnesium too.
In the past I have had them when under stress but at the moment I am not particulary stressed or tired (no more than usual anyway).
It went away for a while last night but has returned 5 or 6 times today. driving me nuts. And yes, people can see it. My husband was laughing at me becuase I really DID look like this little guy |

I wonder if something like camimille tea bags might work, I've had what ur talking about but never longer than a few moments or so. But if its a muscle twitch, maybe some tea bag that helps one relax might help relax the muscle? Best of luck,

Hey tiger,
Abit off subject, but like a good soap opera, I must of missed the outcome of your work related drama and am a weebit curious to know? And could the stress from all that have created ur eye tic? |

I'd agree here - sleep seems to be the only cure I've found for that annoying lower eye twich! |

well, my buddy has been around all day today.. mind you, it has been a big day and we were out for 14 hours shopping, looking at display rooms etc. So maybe I have just been very tired and did not realize it. Gonna have a nice, long sleep tonight and hopefully see tic off for a while.
As for the work drama MelissaMarie, well, it is kinda ongoing... 10 days ago I had my second meeting and told them further feedback from my lawer (told them at the first meeting I had consulted one) and also handed in my resignation (contract dissolution notice actually). A week later they advised that they had sent the confirmation letter for me to sign agreeing to the contract issue, but they never gave any comment on whether they were intending to pursue trying to get $$ from me. Mind you, at the second meeting - where we expected them to make some comment from a company lawyer - they had still not spoken to a lawyer and never even had an additional comment/statement to make. But you know, I have been told that in Japan these things are often left "unresolved" as if ignoring it saves face for everyone. I am SO hoping that this is the case here and I sure aint gonna ask them what they intend to do.
The good news is that the other clients I have that are under the same corporate umbrella still use me - I was terrified I would loose the whole account which would have cost me 1/3 of my annual income!! But this one client was peanuts looking in terms of income loss. Here's hoping it is all done with and life can go on! |

My eye lid on the left twitched for a couple of months after a bad sinus infection last fall. Now, it's ticking again! I just used my 1000 lash for the last time, it tics like this afterward all the time and my eyes sting, especially in the late evening when I'm getting tired, so I'm officially done with it. I don't get any in my eyes, I'm so careful because I'm afraid of it getting in.
I feel for you, Tiger, good luck figuring yours out, it's frustrating. |

My coworker had the eye twitch for weeks. She even went to see her doctor because it was driving her crazy. Her doctor told her to take calcium supplements but it didn't do anything. Then I read an article in Health magazine that people on antiacid medication need to take a particular kind of calcium supplement or else it doesn't get absorbed properly. She switched her calcium supplement and the twitching stopped within a few days.
Now she calls me her real doctor |

I second the catnip--which is, in human terminology, our beloved valerian root. i take a couple of capsules at night when i'm stressed, and i have a beautiful, restful sleep. it is a life saver. Also, kava-kava tincture is good, but since people are addicted to it and it causes liver damage, it might be harder to find. but if you use it responsibly it is an excellent herbal muscle relaxant. i am a graduate student and i often get horrible cramps in my lower back and pinched muscles from reading too much, and in lieu of going to the acupuncturist, i take kava kava and it works much better than the cyclobenzaprine that my physician gave me! |

I had an eye twitch for months. It would happen about 10 times a day and last for about 30 minutes at a time. I tried every vitiamn, suppliment etc...it continued. I finally went to the doctor and he told me I had a severe sinus infection (even know I had no symptoms) I did not feel sick, have a headache..nothing). He said although I did not feel pressure, there was pressure inside that was pressing on my optic nerve. He gave me some meds and it went away, never to return
Strange I know |

Wow tiger_tim, its amazing how this past week i've been having the same exact problem!!! Unfortunately, I have no idea how to get rid of them, however I can sympathize.
Usually, when I get these sorts of ticks, they are unnoticable to those around me. This one, however is a pretty big one (my right eye underneath the eyebrow ). And I've noticed that it only comes out in situations where I'm feeling uneasy, uncomfortable, mad, angry, etc. And this past week, its been a lot of those emotions.
Maybe thats why. But it seems to be going away slowly as I finished up my classes and have seen an advisor about my credits and those which transfer and what not yeasterday. Let me know how it goes! If you find some way of ridding ticks faster, I'd be dying to know how! |

I still get it but nowhere near as often now.. maybe once a day or once every two days.
That is interesting about the sinus problem and I will have them checked next month when in OZ. I had a really bad infection earlier this year and half my face was numb for weeks (like after novacane), but the tic is on the opposite side.. well, you never know!
Thanks! |

I get these too! I think stress sets them off in my case and it can go on for weeks ... driving me to distraction. Mine are the upper eyelid "spasming" on and off ..or under my eye doing the same thing.
I heard that taking Magnesium helps and that in fact it can be symbolic of a deficiency in that mineral .... so that's worth a try too, a supplement is supposed to help in about 3-4 days. That was a Dr on a TV show that said that.
Anyway... havent had one since (Touch wood) but will try it immediately if I do. Worth a go! |

There is a superstitious saying in China that if your eye twitches, it means that danger is on it's way. |

Hi BCGirl.. ooooh gawd... dont say that!! lol.. my "lucky" number is 4 ( virtually everything that has ever happened to me are related to the number 4) and that's supposed to be unlucky as far as Asians are concerned too.
Not to mention my green car... |
