Since naughty Molton Brown stopped making my favourite blue mascara in favour of a non-descript browny-black version only, I've been desperately searching for a replacement.
I was seriously tempted by the Dr Hauschka one, but a remark by chimera put me off as she wasn't keen on their blue shade. She did, however, mention Lavera. So I went off to investigate, and duly ordered one.
Of course, once you see all the goodies that a brand has to offer, you're naturally tempted to buy something else. That's how I came to also order Lavera's Body Spa Body Oil in Vanilla Coconut. It was only £4.95, so I thought I'd treat myself.
Here's what I thought...
LAVERA TREND SENSITIVE VOLUME MASCARA
This comes in Black, Blue or Brown in a smart, silver-coloured metal tube.
The application brush is reasonably thick, slightly rounded and very easy to use. It separates your lashes nicely, giving a good, even application.
Must admit that I originally thought I must have ordered the wrong colour. The Blue really does look Black. Only by very careful scrutiny of the wand in direct sunlight could I make out a vague hint of blue. Whilst I would have preferred a slightly more definite blue tint, it still looks good on.
Although this is supposed to be a volumising product, don't expect miracles - it's not going to transform your eyelashes into drag queen-stylee falsies. However, after applying to one eye, I could definitely tell the difference. It seemed to slightly thicken and add a little length. Nothing spectacular, but I'm very happy with the natural effect it gives. And no clumping, yay!
Best of all - and this is why I particularly wanted to find another good, natural mascara - there's no crispiness! I really, really hate it when mascara transforms your lashes into the spiders-dipped-in-liquid-nitrogen look and feel. (Not that I've ever actually seen or felt spiders dipped in liquid nitrogen. I just have a seriously weird imagination. )
I've just checked in the mirror, and half a day's wear has resulted in no smudging as yet. Mind you, I only ever wear mascara on my top lashes. So far, it looks as good as when I first applied it.
I'm very pleased, but still want to try the Dr Hauschka blue to see whether that colour is more what I'm looking for.

LAVERA BODY SPA BODY OIL - VANILLA & COCONUT
This Body Oil can be used on either wet or dry skin and comes in a 50ml bottle. The bumpf says that it "promotes a sense of warmth and wellbeing". I just bought it because I love the smell of coconut and vanilla.
I was worried, given the size of the bottle, that it wouldn't last very long, but it cleverly dispenses only a small amount at a time, making it more economical.
But now the important thing - the scent. Oooooooh, the scent! It's so nice that there aren't words to describe it. One thing that surprised me is that it really does feel warm as you massage it in! It would be superb for horribly cold winter nights, making you feel all snuggly and cosy. At the same time, it has a summer holiday, beachy, coconut suntan oil smell that will transport your mind away to that famously idyllic, exotic Bounty Bar advert setting.
Back to the less exciting stuff, I suppose, now I've finished waxing lyrical.
I found that the oil was difficult at first to spread over my skin. But once it had warmed up a little, it became so much easier, a joy even, to massage in.
Body oils often leave a sticky, greasy film, in my experience. This one is much better than most. You do get a slight film, but it isn't really stickly and hardly greasy at all. As I have very dry skin, I found it left my skin feeling very comfortable and incredibly satiny smooth. The gentle, subtle sheen left behind is a further bonus.
I love, love, love this stuff. And they make loads of other different flavours - Wild Rose, Milk & Honey, Orange & Sea Buckthorn, Lavender & Aloe Vera, Vervain & Lime.
There's also a range of body lotions, which includes even more exciting flavours, bath salts, bath oils, bath/shower gels, a body "peeling" (probably not anywhere near as scary as it sounds, I'd imagine).
I want to try everything! And I want to try it NOW!!!!
Thank you so much to chimera for turning me on to Lavera. I think I'm well and truly hooked.
Right, I'm off now to go and sniff my arms to my heart's content and feel how soft they are. (Just as well I'm home alone for the afternoon, as anyone who saw me would probably think I've finally gone bonkers. )
Ingredients:
Olea Europaea(Olive) Fruit Oil*, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis(Sweet Almond) Oil*, Simmondsia Chinensis(Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Cocos Nutrifera(Coconut) Oil*, Tocopherol, Vanilla Plantifolia Oil*, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Alcohol, Fragrance(Parfum) |

I love my Dr Hauschka mascara but I would like to try the Lavera as well to compare. I'll try to get hold of it when my Dr Hauschka runs out |

I'm so glad you loved it! I am addicted to Lavera now! Too bad mascara gets so contaminated - else I'd send you my blue tube since I won't be using it again. Dr H has a definite blue tint, but it wasn't as intense-looking as the black. |

chimera - Ooooh, I'll definitely be buying the Dr Hauschka mascara then! Just what I'm looking for. Yep, we should definitely have swapped orders before using!
The annoying thing is that I found a health foods shop when I was in the Netherlands at Easter, where I managed to buy the Weleda Wild Rose Bath Cream. They had loads and loads and loads of Lavera, and I just walked right on past!!!!! Dammit, dammit, dammit! Next time I go back, I'm taking an empty suitcase and filling it with the stuff to take back home with me! |

Loved the Dr H Blue Mascara, as I've already mentioned on another thread.
But I recently got hold of some Lavera Lip Gloss and was rather disappointed.
It comes in 4 colours - 3 Brown, 4 Transparent, 5 Orange and 6 Blackberry. (No idea what the original numbers 1 and 2 were, as they seem to have vamooshed.)
I bought the Brown, which was actually a coppery pink.
It comes in a tube with sponge applicator, making it easy enough to apply. I felt a slight tingle when it went onto my lips, but nothing too scary.
The scent is gorgeously fruity and it did make my lips feel nice and soft. However, I wasn't keen on the texture, colour or effect.
The texture was quite creamy and seemed not to go on very evenly, making the colour look a little patchy, I thought. Also, instead of making my lips look glossy, there appeared to little glittery particles instead. This looked rather odd, and the patchiness made it seem even worse.
So, despite my love of the other Lavera products I've tried so far, this is definitely not one I'll be repurchasing in future. |
