I have been toying on the idea of buying one of those makeup cases (because I have so much more money than I know what to do with Rolling Eyes NOT!). I generally throw everything in a drawer. I do have a little faux leather box (limited edition from Bobbi Brown) where I keep my travel size brushes and eye shadows, but my brush and shadow collection is growing and won't fit into the box no more. The items I use more frequently (or have more liking for, particularly lipsticks) I dump into a cosmetic pouch (I call this compartmentalising Laughing ) and the rest in another, similar pouch/bag.

I'm trying to get a bit more organised and was wondering what you all do.

mm I have a few big-ish sized wooden boxes that I keep all my face care and makeup in.. because it's good for temperature/light control.. and it looks so feminine.

The wooden boxes are from local fair trade shops, they are hand carved with intricate baroque designs and embossed with metal so they look very antique-y (if that's a word)

But I guess it's really dependent on the decoration and colours of your room.. I personally find those big metallic ones a bit too garish.

Oli I use most everything on a daily basis! I change my eye shadow and lipstick according to what I wear for the day, so I need to look at everything before I can decide which to use. Rolling Eyes

I have a little box of 3 plastic drawers that holds my lipsticks and bits and pieces (pencils, sharpeners, mirrors, some brushes, etc.) and I have a little plastic "box" that holds my eye shadow/foundations, etc.

I am about to get a larger case to hold my daily serums, creams etc. as I tend to sit in the bedroom and do this. I would love a compartmentalized case for make up though.. almost like a tool box with all the pull out drawers and stuff...

This thread has made me realize I keep my stuff pretty much everywhere. I have a whole cupboard in the bathroom full of products, mainly bath/shower/hair, and above the sink I have my face care compartment.

I have a little blue makeup oraganizer (I will get a new, BIGGER one soon, as since I started using BE my collection has doubled) where I keep face and eye stuff, etc. Most of my lip products (like you, pumpingmummy!)are in a pouch on my dresser where I can just grab them. My makeup brushes are in a glass container which sits atop my makeup case... That's not even including the pouch with MORE lip stuff in my purse and all the stuff sitting all over my dresser!!

I don't have much make-up, it all fits into a teeny little bag. But...I have a whole drawer-full of skincare products all jumbled up - I'd love to find some way of organising them!

Very Happy Laughing Shock Rolling Eyes

I have my makeup in a biggish makeupbag, and then I have the things I use daily in a bright orange makeupbag with handels and loads of compartments (one of my mothers Lancome freebies - every time I visit her I go through her new stuff, this is a bag I nicked years ago - and she tried to get me to give it back to her for absolute ages Laughing ) I've got a few different eyeshadows, my powder and blush and mascara in the orange one, and when I feel like I need a change I rummage through the big one and it feels like I've got new makeup!!!

My makeupbags are kept in a wooden box that I've painted in a faint gold, and pink on the inside. In this box I also keep my beauty enhancing creams and products... The creams etc which I use daily are in my fantastic MDFormulations bag, from the Mens line. It has loads of easyly accessible compartments where I've got my oils, serums, eyecreams etc. It's one of those travel bags, so you can hang it up - and it is just the best... its stable and fits loads of stuff and wraps up into a neat and easy to pack bag.
Just so I can be completely rediculous Arrow
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/md-formulations-mens-delu-p_3222.htm

there is no other area in my life that I have managed to organize...I'm really not the organized type...

I used a traincase bought off ebay. It looks kinda like the MAC traincase, for only a fraction of the cost!

I have so much makeup and I do use most of it (alternate...not all at once!!) so I leave it out.
Its all in one area - no clutter!

This topic hits close to home. I'm constantly trying new methods to organize my "stuff." For products other than makeup (like lotions, hair care products, shaving creams), I finally settled on this rather unsightly, but very effective shelving unit that hangs on the back of the bathroom door. Everything is visible and accessible with little effort. It's a hand-me-down from my mother who used it for spices and canned goods in her pantry closet. It doesn't work for little items like makeup because they fall through the slats. I think she bought it at Target or Walmart.

For makeup, I finally settled on a 2-part system (which I'm still a bit "iffy" on). For make-up I wear every day, I use this plastic "bucket" I bought at a drug store in the aisle where they sell brushes and rollers... the stuff by the brand "Goody." It has a handle and different compartments of varing sizes so you can organize items by type. For the makeup I use less often (wilder color, for example) I use a decorative cloth box. Everything gets jumbled in there but it's less of a concern because I'm not trying to find something at 6am!

Woo hoo, so I'm not the only disorganised organiser then, Laughing .

You know the trick is you want to make it seem like you don't have alot of makeup and skincare stuff, although you really do! I already have two biggish baskets from Ikea where I put my daily and not-so-daily skincare items. Then I have this two or three pouches for lipsticks and other makeup, then this BB box I was telling y'all about. And what I make visible on my dresser is one basket (the smaller one Shhh ) the BB box and only one of the pouches (smallest, obviously). And even with these I still have stuff scattered on the dresser (and pretty much everywhere else! Embarassed ).

Anyways I've had enough of disorganisation (although, come to think of it, what I've been doing israther organised!) and want to make things a bit more neatly and tidily in one place instead of all over. I don't want to throw away anything because I still use everything. There isn't anything that I haven't touched or used for more than a month.

Oy. What's a girl to do? Think hmm

I bought a Mary Kay Organizer. I keep it hanging in my bathroom. It hold so much and you can see whats stored. It is also great for traveling as it rolls up. A consultants cost is $25.00. I was told to buy them it would be close to $50.00. I purchased mine from a friend for $25.00 but Ebay has better deals.

WOW that Mary Kay thing is HUGE. We have a similar thing hanging on the bathroom wall for holding deodorants, shaving creams, hair gels, etc. The vanity in our apartment here in Tokyo is woefully small...

yeah but where in your room dahling?

I'm contemplating a case like the ones makeup artists carry around. I don't know why, I seem to have collected a lot of BB stuff but I don't like the BB case, it's so unattractive IMO. Well I like the elegant black faux leather exterior, but the design isn't appealing...

I've got a large Caboodles with a fold-out tray that I keep makeup in that doesn't travel with me. The rest I keep in a small plastic makeup case in my purse. Probably not the most organized way to go, but I figure that as long as I can find everything, I'm good.

I bought two big wicker baskets that fit perfectly in bathroom closet shelves, one holds what I just know I'll use one day and the other is my daily use stuff. It works perfect I just pull out the basket (its totally open on top) and set on counter and go to town..then when done it just goes right back on shelf. The sides are tall enough that all one really sees when opening closet door is the baskets instead of scattered stuff.

Medium sized Caboodles case, aluminum. I have it on a shelf in the bathroom. All my extra makeup is in two big plastic cases in the walk in closet, stuff I don't use every day, backups, etc. All of my skin care is in the medicine cabinet behind the mirror.

I collect jadiete & I use one of the large pretty dish to hold my make-up. I keep mascara, eye shadow & shimmer at home in the bathroom. My eyeliner, blush with a tiny make-up set from Bobbi Brown is kept in Prada make-up bag carried in my tote bag. Lipstick, lip gloss & pencil is kept in my purse.

I have quite a collection and have found that those litte plastic desktop organizers from Staples or other office supply stores (they're like mini chests of drawers) are great. If you buy them with flat tops, you can stack different sizes too. I have one that I keep my lippies, eye shadows, blushes, highlighters and bronzes in and another (smaller one) for foundations, powders, concealers and miscellaneous stuff. I keep eye pencils, shadow wands, mascaras, etc. upright in a cup (makes it much easier to find things). I keep "backups" of things in spare makeup bags that I stash away from view.
