I recently spent a few days in an entirely different climate - very dry heat. Since returning home (to blecky, pollen-ridden, damp, and still-too-cold-for-spring New England), I've noticed that my skin is having a bit of a reaction. I've been trying to ignore it and chalking it up to other things like job stress, not enough water, and too much coffee, but my instincts from living in this skin for 35 years tell me that it's more like a "purging" from the abrupt climate changes. I have combo skin with the typical shiny and larger-pored t-zone. My skin was flawless and my pores absolutely shrunk while I was away, but now they're back and a bit larger. For the first time in a long time, I have some small, scattered red blotches and an overall uneven skin tone and lack of lustre that's bumming me out. I also feel like my normal areas - like my cheeks, are dryer than normal.

Anyway, I'm sticking with my pre-vacation routine and hope things will settle down, but is there something I should try to hasten the process?

I feel like I had a good skin-care rhythm going for a while and this is a disappointing, albeit slight, I hope, set-back.

I live in a very dry climate and think that it can be very rough on the skin. I have oliy skin but struggle with dehydration all the time. It is possible that your skin just got dehydrated and when your skin gets dehydrated that sets you up for all sorts of probelms like irritation and pimples if you are acne prone. I don't know what your current routine is but if you use anything strong like AHAs or retinoids you might need to back off these for a few days to allow your skin to restore itself. It would also help to use a hydrating moisturizer or serum. I don't have any specific product recommendations since I just realized that I need to use products that will actually be hydrating as opposed to very rich and emolient. HTH

make sure you drink enough water!!!! I tend to not drink as much on trips...and I notice that my skin has a tendency to break out when I get home!

I agree with above mentioned, and I also would suggest to use OCM everyday. In order to calm your skin, you can use some natural oils (jojoba, rose hip) instead of your regular creams.
