In the thread about whether or not self tan is safe I posted a couple links to the idea of self tanning with tea.
http://www.rd.com/extraordinaryuses/openContent.do?contentId=24030
http://www.care2.com/channels/solutions/self/2859

I brewed up a cup of Tazo Awake Tea which is a black tea. I put in one cup of hot water which made it a pretty strong cup of tea. I didn't add any oils like the second recipe in the links calls for, I just used it straight in a spray bottle. Maybe I didn't make it strong enough but it was a very slight difference if any on my skin. This would probably work out well for someone who has very pale skin to start with, it would probably produce a nice glow. I already have a mutlitude of different tanning products going on on my skin and probably a little bit of natural tan since I've been outside a lot already this year. So I can't say I've noticed a difference. It's a good idea in theory, but how long would this kind of dye last? I see it only lasting for a day and possibly being washed off upon first shower? I must say my skin does feel softer, I've heard that tannic acid is good for skin. Maybe someone with a clean slate can test this out and get better results. I wish it worked like my gradual tan lotion!

I'm wondering if this would work if you brewed yourself in your tub, you know, made the tub one big cup of hot tea? I've used herbal tea bags in the tub before (made for bathing purposes), but I imagine it would take a lot of black tea bags to acheive a nice, strong steep in the tub. Laughing

I´ll try this tonight and report back. I´m milky white, so a glow would be very welcome. Laughing

ETA: I won´t be brewing myself in the tub, mind you, I´ll stay with a spray bottle untill I know it works. Then I´m buying me a ton of tea. Very Happy

The first time I ever heard about this quite awhile ago, was mentioned about soaking yourself in your tub I believe.. I don't remember the details but you're right it would have to be pretty strong considering I made a brew off one cup to one tea bag and it wasn't strong enough for me. I wonder what kind of results Sharkbait got, I could see myself doing this in the winter if it does work.

So, I tried this after my shower this morning. I brewed a wicked strong cup of tea, I used like 10 grams of tea to a cup of water. I used a misting spray bottle and applied to arms and legs. I felt like a right twat spraying tea om my body, but what the hey.

It´s been about six hours now, and while I did not get any tanning effect, I do see a faint glow to my skin. It´s probably only visible to me, and I´m still white as a ghost, but my skintone looks a wee bit "warmer".

What us girls will try in the name of natural beauty!! Laughing
I love the idea of this theory, I know that Redbush Tea is excellent for bathing in especially for people suffering from excema, dry, sensitive skin so making up a spray solution sounds a good idea.
