I'm a newbie when it comes to posting, feel pretty silly having to ask this:
how do I add a quote or partial quote in a reply message?
Thanks in advance.

Click QUOTE on right upper coner of the post and it'll bring you to "Post Reply" mode with the post quoted. It always copies the whole post and I have to delete the part I don't need. Maybe Mabsy knows how to do partial quote.

I did not know it until about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I did not feel foolish before I knew it. Should I???

I also did not know this til a couple of weeks ago. I used to copy paste the message that I wanted to quote and made the font smaller.

Ok, this is how I do it but unsure if it is correct...

From the 'post a reply' section, click the 'quote' button up the top, scroll down the page until you come to the message that you want to quote [the thread comes up underneath the typing box], copy the part you want to quote, paste into your typing box and click the quote button again. The word 'quote' as well as a beginning and end slash \/ will come up at the beginning and end of the quoted bit of you message.

Hope this makes sense

Here's how:

1. Identify the post that you would like to reply to and quote.
2. Instead of clicking on "reply" on this post, click "quote" (up in the top right corner of that post).
3. You will get a post writting box as you usually do but the original message will be embedded withing {quote} {/quote} tags (with different brackets though but they won't show up here if I type them).
4. Feel free to edit the message within those two tags (e.g. cut it down to just one sentence you want to quote rather than the whole thing) but do not change the quote tags or the brackets.
5. Write your message either BEFORE the {quote} tag or AFTER the {/quote} tag, and then submit.
6. Voila! Quoted message and reply!

I hope that helps clear it up.

As in from two separate posts? I use two windows for this. Click "quote" on both posts you want to quote and then copy the contents of one message writing box into the second and just use that one.

kls - you're most welcome Smile

Thanks for the help. Now I've got another question--how do you put a "box" around the quote? This time I'll assume that there may be others that want to know this too!

The box is automatic - that's what happens when you use the quote tags Smile
