I'd like to get a facial done soon and was wondering what everyone's experiences were. Do you have any recommendation for certain types of salons, types of facial treatments, etc.? I'm not looking for one to help with acne since I don't have any, but would like something to help clear pores, tighten, brighten, etc. I've heard good things about Aveda salons, but I'm sure there are many others out there that I'd like to consider as well. TIA! Very Happy

I've only had three facials, but my best one was at a spa. It was about 90 minutes of pure heaven. The other two I had at hair salons that offered some spa services ... I found they didn't seem as luxurious to me and weren't as long. I think if I have another one day (which I've love to do) I would go back to a full spa that specializes in those sorts of things.

I think my most recent facial was called a European facial and they customized it based on your skin. I can't remember what the other two had been called.

Oh! All this talk about facials makes me want to have another one! Very Happy

I had a mini-facial years ago at a Macy's store (a special deal advertised by the Adrian Arpel line) and it was a horrible experience. My face broke out like crazy even though I told them not to put anything on my skin that would induce acne. Because of this awful experience, I was turned off of facials for years. A couple of months ago I was on a cruise and got the nerve to try a facial at the ship's spa (the facial was advertised to help acne, etc.). I'm so glad I tried it! It was such a wonderful experience. The procedure/experience was great and the results were also. I think you just have to make sure you go to an experienced esthetician. Basically, I guess it boils down to: you get what you pay for. (No more "back alley deals" for me anymore!)

Anyone ever have one at Nieman Marcus? The Revive people do it once in awhile to promote products at events. Just wondering if it is a REAL facial. I was out of town the last time they called me about it.

Seeking~HG - A cruise is where I had my first facial too and I loved it! It was a combo of microdermabrasion and masks/serums/etc. I actually loved it so much the first time that I made a second appointment for another sea day. I just booked another cruise so I can't wait to see what this one offers. I'm becoming a spa addict, I just wish I could afford it more often. I just got back from Tulum and stayed at a spa resort and it was fabulous! The first hour before your massage you get to spend in a hydrotherapy area and the staff took you from station to station getting your body ready for the massage. Here were the steps:

1. Sauna
2. Cold full body pressured shower (shocking at first but then felt great)
3. Steam room
4. Cold shower again
5. Whirlpool
6. Cold spa with a waterfall (just a dip)
7. 2nd whirlpool
8. Another dip in the cold spa
9. Foot spa
10. Rest with fantastic robe and warm neck wrap and then wait for them to call for your massage/facial/etc.

They also brought you glasses of either green tea, water or something they called jamaican water. It was such a wonderful spa day. I wish I could find something like that here!

Tamgirl99,

I guess this facial may cost you US$200.00.

Am I right?

Wow! Your experience sounds even more luxurious than mine. I was on a Holland America ship cruise, and one thing I learned was to wait until the spa offers a "special" before booking. I booked on day 1, and then on day 2 they offered a special on the same service. They actually offered spa specials (discounts and/or free extra services with paid services) all week long. I was kinda' mad about that. So if I ever go on another cruise, I'm going to wait until they offer special deals before booking services with the spa. I can't remember the exact name/description of my facial, but I know the word "Oxygen" was in it and they used some kind of little machine, a mask, did some extractions, and ended it with a massage. Then, of course, they tried to sell me a plethora of pricey facial products! Rolling Eyes

I don't like Adrian Arpel. She used to carry a line at the Shopping Channel (in Canada) called Signature Club A. That line was crap...probably that's why it's not sold there anymore.

TAMgirl99, now I want to go on a cruise and have a spa treatment.

Sorry everyone I should have clarified. I just got back from an adult-only all inclusive spa resort in Tulum, Mexico and that is where I had a hot stone massage with the hydrotherapy services. Some of my friends had facials but the hydrotherapy area is open to anyone having a spa treatment that day. If your interested the place is called Aventura Spa Palace and it was awesome! (link below) My next cruise isn't until August and I've never experienced that kind of service on a cruise either, but the services there are still nice!

To answer bb2000's question, the hot stone massage cost $172 but we had a discount of $15 off. It was totally worth it though. The massage room I was in overlooked the ocean and it just so happened that a storm rolled in right as I got started so the thunder/rain made it even that much more relaxing! It was so wonderful that now I'm wanting to get a good facial somewhere and that's why I started the thread. I have yet to find anything in the states so far that even comes close to ASP.

By the way SeekingHG, I've been on both Carnival and Royal Caribbean and I've never seen them offer decent specials on there services. I've seen a few on manicures/pedicures, but not on their big treatment services (massage/facial). If you go with either of these cruise lines next time, I wouldn't wait to book since there schedule fills up rapidly and it's unlikely you'll find any kind of deal on what you want anyways.

Thanks for the tip about the other cruise lines. By the way, the Aventura Spa looks divine!
