mtview, please give us the rundown on this tape. I have an appointment next week so I really want to know the right questions to ask. |

The only tape I was given was some low adhesive stuff to keep transparent plastic eye guards in place. These look like large, individual spectacle lenses and are meant to protect the eye and surrounding area from potential knocks or damage. You're only supposed to use them for the first night or so, but they gave me extra tape so I could keep 'em on for the first few days, during baths and each night.
I was so paranoid about banging my eyes, mainly because I'm incredibly clumsy. These guards really helped to reassure me.
I also wore dark glasses whenever I went out for the first few weeks afterwards. Although I didn't actually need them, again I was paranoid about getting knocked whilst out shopping in crowded places, etc. They looked slightly less silly than the eye guards at least! |

Hi bushy,
I am back from my post-op exam, 20/20, woohoo! The tape I was referring to was more like surgical/wound dressing tapes? The dr have to tape on eye close while working on the open eye. The open eye will be taped open and upper lashes taped up and lower lashes taped down so they are out of the way. Then there was the cup? to keep the eye open during the time of the operation. When he ripped the tape off, ouch! I am still having slight blurry vision when seeing things up close. Dr said the close up vision will be back to normal in a week. My left eye is the worse eye and it is drier than the right eye.
I have to wear googles sleeping. The direction said to wear them for a whole week at night.
Let me know if you have any more questions. Time for more eye drops! |

ah yea, we had the eye guards that had to be worn to bed for the first week. That tape was yukky, though I worked out a way to apply and not have much tape on my skin. |

The googles I got are like ski googles so no tapes are needed. I just look goofy wearing them at home |

I so want this done, but love wearing glasses. My left eye is -1.5 and right is at -1.75, but I'm sure it's worse now since it's been a few years since my last check up (bad me). How long does the procedure take and is there any downtime? Any discomfort? I have slight astigmatism in my right eye, can I still have this done? |

It is best to get a consultation first. Your vision need to be stablized for at least 2 years. I also have slight astimatism. I will find out tomorrow night when I drive home from work regarding the halos etc.
The whole procedure was very fast. I was in the room by 1:15pm and the tech went over the after care instructions and gave me a valium. I went in to the room where the dr cut the flaps and went to the other room and had the lasik. I walked out of the room and called my ride at 1:50pm.
The procedure wasn't really painful. There was a lot of pressure on the eye. I took the 2 days off work (the sx day and today for the followup - I am sneaking in a haircut appt this afternoon). I am going back to work tomorrow.
I also got a script for vicodin but I didn't even fill it. I took 2 excedrin last night and that was it. My eye just felt a little scratchy, not real pain.
ps: my vision was -5.25 and -3.50 |

Stabilized for 2 years really? How come I see all those shows where they do makeovers for people that just walk in and get it done? I didn't know the process was so darn lengthy. |

That is tv show for you. Most of the makeover candidates are older people and fixed vision. My prescrption stayed the same for at last 5 years. |

That stinks, I didn't that one had to go through this length of time to get lasik done. Keep me updated on the astigmatism question though please. I should have it done soon though. |

Not sure I understood your question. If you prescription has been the same for a while then you should be ok. Then you have to get your eyes evaulated to see if your cornea is thick enough, pupil sizes etc etc. That is all cover with the free consultation.
Will let you know about the halos after I drive home from work tomorrow. |

You understood correctly. That means I have to get my eyes checked regularly (over the course of 2 years) and have my vision or lack there of stabilized and then think about having the procedure done. I just didn't know this routine was entailed is all. |

When I saw my optometrist to get his referral to the laser specialist he said to me that I may have to make a decision as to whether I want my close vision fixed or my distance vision fixed. He didn't think it was possible to fix both unless you get close up correction in one eye and distance correction in the other eye which is also possible.
Has anyone had both corrections done? |

One can be far sided and near sided simultaneously? |

My former boss had the kind of correction done where one eye was given near focus and his other eye far-away focus. He said it took some getting used to but he liked it. |

Congratulations on your new, improved sight. Isn't it wonderful!
I don't think they taped my other eye shut, though. I can understand how removing that tape would have been a little worrying. |

Thank you! I just can't get over it. Hopefully I will have no problem driving home at night today |

Hi,
I drove home today in the dark without any problem. I definitely noticed a little halo effect around lights but not bad at all. The scratchy feeling in my eye also went away last night. I just am having a tough time falling asleep with the big googles, LOL! |

I know, but at least the goggles give you a little piece of mind. Honestly, if you'd have seen how paranoid I was about damaging my lovely new eyesight, you'd be amazed! |

Me too! I was so paranoid to touch my eyes!! you know how they say not to rub the eye for a month, well it must have been 4 months or more before I could bring myself to rub my eye. |

I had Lasik about a month and half ago and none of the docs ever said that to me.... If that was the case I'd NEVER be able to get it done as my script was always changing! They said I would probably need an enhancement in the future (not a big deal, I paid extra for the lifetime plan), but I should be good to go for at least a few years before I have to worry about that.
Getting lasik was the best thing I did... I can't even begin to tell everyone how nice it is to be able to get up and see or wake up at night and see the clock! I HATE glasses so I cold never wear 'em, I was strictly contacts.... The whole procedure took about 15 minutes (the actual lasering was probably only 10-20 seconds per eye). The worst part about the whole thing was having to wear those stupid shields taped to my face at night.... The morning after (less than 24 hrs later) I was 20/20.... I'm anxious to see if I'll end up being better than 20/20 once I'm completely done healing. |

Were you allowed to use eye products around your eyes after the procedure was done or did you have to wait a while? |

they told me no eye make-up for 7 days. I still used eye cream, but only around the orbital bone and a little under the eyes (but not right up the lashes). I never went near the eyelid as they said it was important not to not touch the eyelid for 7 days (it takes 7 days for the flap to bond back on the eye .. but it is 30 days before it is completely rebonded) |

What do you mean that it takes 7 days for the flap to bond back on the eye. I didn't think anything was cut at all. |
