I went to the dermatologist yesterday for a Botox touch up. In addition to all the red dots on my forehead from the injections, I walked out of the office with a prescription for a 2 months supply of Doxycycline, and prescriptions for 0.1% Retin-A Micro and 15% Finacea Gel for my "mild to moderate adult acne" (his words). My face has been breaking out for a couple of months, but I didn't think it was bad enough for a dr visit... 
Does anyone have any experience with the Finacea product?? I've started using it, but am just curious how others have responded to it. |

| I use Finacea daily and LOVE it! It's not as harsh as my taz so it never causes dryness or peeling. It's really helpful with reducing redness and swelling too after you do an extraction. |

| I also read that azelaic acid at 15-20% concentration improves hyperpigmentation and has antioxidant benefits. Finecea can be bought OTC from a chemist. |

In the US?

Could one of you lovely ladies please post the ingredients of your Finacea? I am curious about the inactives and cannot find a listing online. I was curious about it months ago but gave up on it and forgot about it after I couldn't find the ingredients. |

Each gram of Finacea Gel, 15%, contains 0.15 gm azelaic acid (15% w/w) as the active ingredient in an aqueous gel base containing benzoic acid (as a preservative), disodium-EDTA, lecithin, medium-chain triglycerides, polyacrylic acid, polysorbate 80, propylene glycol, purified water, and sodium hydroxide to adjust pH.
My skin really looks good. I've even had people stop me and ask me what I use on my skin. And all this from the face that 3 weeks ago looked like I had chicken pox....I can't say which product worked best, I guess it was a combination of the antibiotics, Retin-A and the Finacea Gel. |

hi chrissie
i'm using skinoren at the moment, which is similar to azelex, 20% azelaic acid. how frequently do you use retin-a at the moment? i was on retin-a for about 2 weeks, but stopped when I started skinoren one week ago, in case of too much irritation but i'd like to incorporate it back since skinoren and my skin seems to be getting along just fine...
I do like skinoren, i bought it because i have bad acne scars esp on my chin from a recent bad breakout, and I do see a difference in just one week.

I use finacea (alternate w/noritate) for rosacea.
It's avail only by prescription in the US.
Sorry it made you break out. Why were you using it?
Maybe you're allergic? |

Youngrace, I wonder if it wasn't the Finacea that made you breakout, maybe you were going to have a breakout anyway??? I reviewed the package insert to see what it says about side effects, Finacea is contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to propylene glycol. If you tolerate PG in other products, I'd give the Finacea another try.
Cahoot, I use the Finacea in the morning, and the Retin-A at night. I did have an issue with the side of my lips getting very dry, almost to the point of cracking, I laid off the Retin-A for a couple of nights and it looks alot better. |

Also, for anyone in the US that got a script for the fincea gel and purchased it with insurance in the US, how much was your copay??

I just wanted to say I would not start finacea and retin-a at the same time. It would likely over irriate your skin, start off slow. Lots of people love Finacea. You may also want to consider just using 1 topical and see how it goes.
Also if you dont think you need the meds no reason to take them. |

They are both azelaic acid: Finacea is 15% gel and Azelex is 20% cream.
Its impossible to say which is better because it depends on your skin.
Co-pay's vary by insurance, your insurance may cover some or may not cover it at all. You would have to call them and ask. |
