Hi
I wanted to try the aspirin mask and heard you need to use uncoated ones but when i was looking none of them said whether they were uncoated or not. How do you know? |

Uncoated should say uncoated, and should be a lot cheaper... I buy the cheap brand too, so 500 is like $2.99. |

If the bottle the aspirin comes in seems "dusty" chances are the tabs are uncoated. HTH |

hi Carol
I know what you mean.. Aspirin is not as common in Australia and NZ as it is in the US etc. I also haven't seen it be described as coated or uncoated. The only aspirin I managed to find at the supermarket was the kind that fizzes and disolves in water and it was about NZ$5 for 18 tablets! Neurofen and Panadol are a lot more common here.
When I used the fizzy aspirin to make a mask it didn't work so good but that was probably due to the fact that I added too much liquid. I tried to be clever and add other things I thought would be good for my skin and ended up with runny goo. Duh
It also could have been because the aspirin is so fizzy.. there was too much air? I'll try again following instructions this time and we'll see.
I have yet to try a proper pharmacy and see if they would have anything equivalent to what you get in the US.
Good luck with your search too! |

If you use a coffee bean grinder, it doesn't matter which type you use. I've used both, with no difference whatsoever after having ground them. |

Back when I tried the Aspirin mask, I did actually get *uncoated* aspirin (yes, in Australia). It was the Bayer Aspirin Extra Strength 500mg tablets (I got the 120 pack for about $9). It was actually these http://www.pharmacydirect.com.au/PD_ProductOrderingInformation.asp?PID=10757&PLID=2 so if nothing's changed these are uncoated (although back then the packaging specifically said they were). |

I simply love this forum. Not only do you learn how to make yourself more beautiful, but you learn cultural differences, too!
Uncoated aspirin is so common in the USA, and so inexpensive... I even use it to keep my Christmas tree lasting longer through the holiday season! It's a trick my dad learned when selling Christmas trees as a kid. Dissolve a few uncoated aspirin tablets in your water when you water the Christmas tree and it WORKS! Now, there's not a live plant in my house because of my track record (not a green thumb!) but I can't kill a Christmas tree. The last one was still so beautiful, green, and full when the time came to take it down that I almost shed a tear!
I think it's because the aspirin causes greater access for the water. |

Thank you Mabsy!!
I tried pharmacydirect.co.nz and I found the same thing.
http://www.pharmacydirect.co.nz/default.aspx?t=743&P=2563
It's $20.95 for the exact same product that pharmacydirect.com.au sells for $9.25 but it's better than what I get at the supermarket. Weird, it would appear that aspirin is somewhat of a top shelf painkiller here. |

Wow, I was going to say that I could send it to you but I guess that by the time we added postage to me and then to you it might turn out the same. The Australian site of PharmacyDirect does ship overseas though so next time it might be handy to half complete check out and see what charges they quote to NZ. Btw, the aspirin is more like $14 in the shops, so it should sell for about NZ$15 RRP. NZ$20.95 seems rather high, particularly for an online site! |

hey kt,
ther are some weird things about aspirin here - my dad takes it for heart stuff and it's actually not called aspirin, it's called cartia (that's the brand name, like panadol and neurofen are brand names). now the type he takes is coated but maybe you could go and ask at the chemist for uncoated aspirin or something similar as it does exist (i have to admit that i haven't been to look yet so this is all based on supposition).
i do remember that when i was in canada i was amazed at the stuff they were able to buy off the shelf. nz has some really strict laws about medicines, some of the strictest in the world according to my pharmacist friend, so that's maybe why it's harder to find!

Thanks for the offer anyway Mabsy
So anyway, I went to the physical Pharmacy Direct store and they didn't have the Bayer Aspirin that they do on the website! I got some other stuff that is UNCOATED (although it doesn't say on the box but the lady said it must be), put it all in the coffee grinder and VOILA! Now I have about a month's supply of finely milled aspirin.
Kiwigirl, I saw the cartia stuff as well at the store Weird how NONE of the stuff they had was actually called aspirin. Maybe they can only sell the Bayer stuff online?
Who knows and now I'm all sorted and I don't care anymore |

I ended up getting something called ASPRO, 60 tabs for I *think* around $8. It's only 320mg as opposed to the Bayer Aspirin that I found on the website which is 500mg but it worked just fine (I think)!
After I run out of this batch though, I will order the Bayer stuff from the link I posted before. Seems more "authentic" (as silly as that might sound!).
I do have to say though.. the aspirin mask rocks. I washed it off my face a few minutes ago (exfoliating as well mmmmmm I'm a sucker for strong scrubs) and my skin felt so smooth! I am now sitting here with Dr. H CC on my skin since someone theorised that the aspirin losens the blackheads and grime and then the CC sucks it all up. I'm off to wash it off now and then I'll follow with the clarifying toner and rejuvenating mask for overnight.
I'm in heaven |

Interesting, you'll have to let us know how this worked out for you. The Dr H CC is good at sucking up the grime out the pores but it does not do this by itself - partly it's because of the sticky texture of the CC combined with the pressing motion that creates the suction. |

I plead quilty Your Honor, that was me In the past I noticed that the morning after an aspirin mask I had some blackheads, which is a good sign because that indicates the pore gunk has come to the surface. When I had a bad hormonal breakout I wanted to resolve quickly (had a special event to attend) I used the Dr. H CC after the aspirin mask to draw out the gunk even more and had great results. Its not something I would do everyday though, it might be too much for more sensitive skins. Hope it works out for you KT |

Definitely a success! Of course there was a nice amount of rolling and pressing going on when I first put the CC on I like to let it stay on for a few minutes though since my face is an oil factory and it tightens my pores nicely.
I haven't done the mask without the CC yet but with it, it worked wonders! I had quite a few bumps and red bits on my face before the whole process and now all the bumps have been flattened and there is very little red bits left over. I'm sure the rejuvenating mask that I left on overnight helped too, but my face felt and looked amazing after the mask and the CC even last night! Crazyskin, what other crazy theories and skin routines will you subconsciously plant in my head!?
I'm really glad I have no trouble with sensitivity and my face does need quite a bit to shake it up.
I still stand by what I said last night - the apirin mask rocks Thank you girls!! |

Well KT, if keep hanging around here I promise to try and come up with more Glad it worked out for you!
BTW I love the Rejuv Mask too I find it very soothing, I'm sure it helped calm down your skin after the intense double whammy treatment. |

I haven't tried it with houseplants yet ... just seem to "delicate" for it, you know? But since I kill houseplants with just water, anyway, I suppose a little aspirin wouldn't hurt! |

I am so tempted to try the asprin mask after so many good reviews on this forum. But, I am still a bit confused to what exactly it does? Is it the most effective way to get out blackheads? More effective than Dr. H CC cream? Can the asprin mask irritate skin? Is it suitable for all skin types? Can I use it on existing pimple?
Please enlighten me |

Rosebud, a florist once recommended aspirin to me for prolonging the life of cut flowers. The results were not that impressive.

Merging our themes here... I tried my first aspirin mask last night, followed by a swipe of witch hazel, and my pores closed up tighter than a venus flytrap! I love it! |

Yay, glad it worked for you LandB!
Hi Wildcat aspirin = salicylic acid, and SA exfoliates *inside* the pores. I'm pretty sure it can exfoliate the skin surface too, plus has mild antibacterial effects from what I've read. If you've used a salicylic acid product before you've had a preview of what the mask can do. The mask is really a concentrated infusion of SA on the skin, so the results are magnified.
I recommend this mask to anyone with congested skin who is not allergic to SA. You can do a patch test on the inside of your elbow first if you're not sure. I was afraid it would irritate my temperamental skin so I started slowly, 2 tabs at first, then built up to 4-6 tabs. I expected it to sting but to my surprise it didn't, it actually seems to calm my skin and take redness away. I have used it as a spot treatment on acne too, and it deflated my spots and hastened healing.
I also use the Dr. H CC, for me it is a great decongestant too. I hesitate to compare the two as I find I need multiple products to resolve blocked pores. They reinforce each other's effects for me.
As to the mask being the most effective treatment for you, I really cannot say, everyone's skin is different. But it has worked out for many of us. The only way to know is to try. HTH |
