Hi All,

I feel like I've been MIA for a while from the forum. Rest assured that I read the posts every day but haven't had time to chime in on different issues due to the work load I have right now in school.

But I have a spare 10 minutes right now that I thought I'd share something (and ask for opinions).

I've recently started to use pure tea tree oil on my face after cleansing (it's got great anti-bacterial qualities) and I have (temporarily) stopped using Proactiv (for my acne).

Amazingly, after about 5 days, my skin is DRAMATICALLY different. It is SOFT -- I can't ever remember it being this soft. It is CLEAR -- I can't ever remember it being this clear WITHOUT Proactiv's benzoyl peroxide helping me out. And for some reason, the oilyness in my skin has calmed itself down -- which is completely STRANGE to me because I'm applying tea tree OIL (OIL OIL!) directly to my face.

I'm just wondering if any others use pure "oils" on your face and seen such dramatic results. And also -- are there any harsh consequences that I should be aware of? For instance, is tea tree oil too strong that it might cause detrimental results in the long-run?

I still apply a moisturizer on top of the tea tree oil (not sure why but I just want to). I basically use about 2-3 drops of tea tree oil over my face (so it's not a hefty amount); then I apply a moisturizer (either Dermalogica's Active Moist or Yonka's Pamplemousse); then I apply make-up (Bare Escentuals, of course). I just cannot believe the difference that I see in my skin -- particularly when my dietary habits have not changed!

Just wanted to see what others think . . . if you have acne and nothing works, try some tea tree oil . . . it might work wonders for you as it has for me. Smile

I have used Pure Tea Trea Oil too ( from Australia) but I just dab it right on my zits and sometimes on my nose at night ( after picking or squeezing them red:mad:). It really calms and heals my skin very quickly.

I have never tried to apply it on the whole face because of one sole reason: the Tea Tree oil that I have has such a horrible smell. Does your Tea Tree Oil have that such strong smell too?

Yes, the tea tree oil does NOT smell good . . . I think that's why I always use a moisturizer over it . . . Yonka's Pamplemousse smells delicious so I usually use that over the tea tree. I mean, seriously, no one is going to come up to me and smell my face, so I don't think it matters. I personally don't mind the smell -- it doesn't smell BAD -- it's just a strong herbally, tea tree smell Smile

But it's worth it for the effects it's given my skin.

And I'm still trying new products, so no worries. I'm at a stage where I've got TONS of stuff "in stock" so I really should use up the items before I buy more. I guess my shopping spree last semester has really hit me now -- tons of stuff in storage . . . gotta try to use it up! Nevertheless, I love the products I currently use so it's not too bad Smile

Glad to see you're online! I sympathise with your lack of time. I started a new job and the amount of time that I spend online has decreased rather dramatically! So, most of the time I get time to read the posts during the day but I don't have as much time to post (which is why I've been doing it in big 'clumps' at night). I just need to learn some time management skills ('pass on work to other people' skills :P) and all will be back to normal Smile

The only thing that I would say about tea tree oil is that you probably should not use it undiluted on your face. I don't really have any info to back that up but I know that tea tree oil is rather drying so long term it may not be so good for your skin. That also explains why your skin is less oily at the moment. Just make sure you don't overdo!

Tea tree oil is awesome, I've been using it forever. But mainly to clean piercings, it's the best antiseptic. It should not be used undiluted--I think it even says that on the package. (Mine does anyhow) Try moistening your cotton ball or Qtip w/ H2O first. Tea tree oil mouthwash is also great at healing cankersores and infected tongue piercings (I used it long long ago :P) Mind you, it tastes terrible!

Oils are not necessary bad for your skin. Essential oils used diluted in carrier oil are a "natural skincare".

Adverse effects, using tea tree oil to spot treat is ok, but to to use it all over might be abit too drying. so you applying moisturiser ontop might be a good thing Smile

For those venturing into health store to get tea tree oil, make sure the Essential oil is in a dark bottle, and keep it away from direct sunlight and away from heat source, preferably in a cool and dark cabinet. our oils can evaporate so always keep the cap screwed on tight. Also, be cautioned that essential oils can harm some varnished wood surfaces and some plastics.

?? I have no idea - essential oil are extracted from the plant/flower/root itself so they are kind of safe. However, most essential oils are so "concentrated" you are supposed to use them diluted and not neat - there is a "formula" for those.

If you have cats, essential oils and them do not go well together.
