Is she using anything now? Cleansing her face?
My 14 year old DS has a bit of acne. He is not really good about a routine. So I started him with the basics. He uses Clearasil Cleansing Pads (no rinsing) with 2% bha. Stridex is also good but not available in Canada.
There is a foaming cleanser in the shower. He is good about washing daily and shampooing.
He also uses (sometimes) 5% BP; sometimes PC 8% AHA first then the BP. As per acne.org the two work well together. |

thanks for the tips.
She is not good about a routine, that is most of the problem.
What brand BP PC do you use? |

The one I bought is Persasel from Clean & Clear (Johnson & Johnson). It is a 5% gel. In the US there is a 10% gel also. |

Hi Miss Shoes,
Benzoyl peroxide is a staple in many anti-acne regimens. However, there are many who believe that BP is also an unstable oxidizing agent that can cause premature aging of the skin. Furthermore, down the road it may be difficult to wean oneself off of BP. (I have experienced this; my skin went insane after stopping BP.)
Personally, I would not want to use anything with this ingredient on an 11-year-old.
If I were you, I would try to find a more natural solution, perhaps a product that contains white willow bark. Argan oil can be a great moisturizer (applied sparingly to a damp face) that can help regulate the skin's oil production. I've also heard great things about Garden of Wisdom's oxygen gel (which contains stabilized oxygen).
I wish you and your niece all the best. |
