Hi All,
I know Sunscreen is really difficult to choose from and it is always on the today's topic...still from all I havent been able to find out which one is best. As after few days it comes out that this sunscreen has something in it which is not good for skin. So here once again I am asking for sunscreen advice for my skin type. I am really sorry and really apologizes to all people who are frustrated to see repeated sunscreen question in the forum in advance. But somehow I cant help it and need to find one good physical sunscreen.
I have very sensitive acne prone skin which is sun damaged easily. Right now I am using clinique derma white supercity 40. I like it but it is chemical one and I want to switch to physical after reading bout difference between 2 on this forum.
Please suggest me best Physical sunscreens which is at least minimum SPF40 for acne prone senstive skin that doesn't have bad ingredient in it..like dimethicone..etc...

The only physical sunscreen that I know of that's spf 40 or greater is Mexitan spf 50. It'll be good for acne prone and sensitive skin. The one bad thing with it is that it can be flakey.

Hi Ritas

I was going to suggest the Japanese brand Sofina who make excellent sunscreens but when you mention no "bad" ingredients like dimethicone that automatically restricts your selection of high SPF products.

I don't like Euro high SPF sunscreens because they are either very greasy or chemical based. I have not come across a high SPF photostable physical sunscreen that does not contain some sort of silicone polymer.

I used to avoid silicones too but I don't find them an issue as long as I use good cleansing products to remove them. Perhaps it is necessary to reconsider your stance on silicones when it comes to choosing a sunscreen.

ritas, dimethicone is not necessarily bad for the skin if you're not allergic to it. It doesn't really affect your body I think.

As for physical ss, I heard that Clarins SPF 40 is good. It used Titanium Dioxide as its active ingredient. I'm not sure if it has cones in it though. I feel that the higher the SPF is, it usually contains cones in it for a better slip to spread.

Hi Miranates,
Thanks so much for your reply. Actually from this eds forum only I came to know that these ingredients are bad for skin. Somebody on this forum state that dimethicone lead to enlarge pore. For me large pore size is already an issue and I don't want aggrevate it. Though personally I nvr noticed or infact nvr analyzed whether dimethicone do harm to skin or not. If they do not I have no issues with them...I want healthy skin that is why I want high SPF sunscreen but if high SPF sunscreen itself cause the skin issues then this all is really confusing for me Sad
Please you suggest me what should I opt for?

I can't speak to the "bad" ingredient question, but I can tell you that I have very acne prone skin, and the Sofina sunscreen has been fabulous for me. I'm thrilled with how good it feels on the skin and I have absolutely no breakouts from it.

I would suggest Lavera SPF 40. I have very white skin and this sunblock doesn't leave white cast on my skin, but I wouldn't suggest it for people with darker skin.

I have never come across research that says silicones enlarge pores! There is a lot of scare mongering about silicones from ingredients puritans.. Most "pore smoothing" products and a lot of skin care products use different types of silicones, silicones are inert and do not absorb into the skin.

I would recommend you try Sofina Lucent Perfect/Whitening SPF50 or Sofina Rise SPF50 (moist formula) and make sure you also use a good cleansing product- you will probably need two step cleansing to remove everything well to ensure your skin does not become congested. You can buy the samples from bobodave.com

There are also some other brands like Anessa SPF50 or Sofina beaute, Albion UV milk, all in SPF50 as well but they do not rate as highly as Sofina and Albion is very expensive.

If you have combo to oily skin, then UV Perfect Lucent (around 30 dollars for 60ml), it's spf50+. If you have extremely oily skin, you can try Very Very, which is only spf25 i belive (around 30 dollars for 30ml). if you have slightly dry to combo skin, you can try sofina Rise, which comes in two versions, spf25 and spf 50 (around 30 dollars for 30ml).

THere's a Clinque Super City spf 40 that is a physical sunscreen. I use the 25 and like it. You might also want to look into DHC's physical sunscreens. The White sunscreen is 25+, and their Moist Color Base is spf 30+. Both are completely physical.

I agree with the people who say that Sofina Perfect UV is the bomb for sensitive, acne prone skin. That and the other sunscreen from the Japanese mail-order co. (the one that sends out monthly magazines - DHC! Very Happy ) are the only ones I can use without issues. Sofina Perfect UV 50+++ is my favorite, though.

P.S. Is there any way to buy it other than from eBay? It takes so long to arrive when it's being shipped from HongKong....

I am really happy with DDF Organic. Was sold at EDS previously but now I don't see it listed. Anyone know the status of this product at EDS?

I`m not Pocoloco, but I assume she means it`s a bomb in a good sense. So that Sofina does not cause her any of these problems.

Yes, that's what I mean..."the bomb" in the good sense. Smile (I don't know where that expression came from)

no oilies, no clogged pores, no irritation from the ingredients, and it's effective.

I tried both Sofina Lucent and Rise. It's quite matte alright but I sometimes found that it can be quite drying in the winter. Also, I found it hard to remove with a regular cleansing milk ... It has to be removed with a cleansing oil...

hhm... maybe it's just me? But I do recall a site that sells Sofina ss saying that a cleansing oil is needed to remove it. I find there's a chalky film on my skin if I removed it with a reg. cleanser.

Just to let u know ritas that the Sofina ss is not purely physical. It contains a chemical called Octinoxate which is said to be affecting your hormones in your body. I really don't know what to do about it as most tinted moisturizers contain that also.
