Hello everyone,

I'm debating on which steak restaurant I should take my friend out for his birthday. He loves to eat steak and I figured this would be a nice birthday present. I've read reviews on both but can't decided which is better. I've never been to either place so I was wondering if anyone has been to these places and what they thought of it. Thank you for your help Smile

bergquis - i haven't decided yet. i have 1 more week. Smile

sormuimui - i like the idea of being able to view the food. one of my friend has been to both and she says she likes chris ruth much better than morton's. but another friend likes morton's. but i might go to morton's just to know how it is than go to chris ruth another time to compare. but thank you very much for your input. i'll try the godiva cake. Oh which entree do you order?

We ordered a bunch of appetizers and the steak for 2 ppl (48oz) to share - there were 4 of us. I don't remember what else we ordered but I've had their godiva cake, souffle, chocolate velvet cake and something else I don't remember. Sometimes I go there just for desserts. Godiva cake is the best, the souffle is said to be for 2 ppl but it comes in a huge pan enough for good size servings for 4 people. The chocolate velvet cake is very rich but the texture is VERY velvety. The entrees also come with delicious sides of veggies and hashbrowns, haha, it's a lot of food! Drool

I've only been to Ruth Chris, but I find the food there excellent! Everything is well prepared including all the side dishes and desserts. I was never disappointed.

la vie en rose,

I checked out both of the menu's and both looks great. I even read reviews for both but it seems like ruth chris has a more laid back environment and morton's more upscale with a stricter dress code.

actually, that's a pretty apt description. if you want to impress, go to Mortons; if you want a good meal, go to Ruth Chris. okay, so i'm being bitchy ... i know a zillion people that love (and are excited to go to) Mortons. just had a few very bad meals there when i was out of town on business and was kind of turned off by it for good.... since people where you live seem to like *their* Mortons, then by all means you should choose based on whether you want to get all gussied up or have it a little more casual. i bet your friend will be thrilled with either! Very Happy

I'm not into the "stricted dress code". To me the food means more than the environment. I'm leaning towards Ruth Chris because I want to be able to relax and enjoy my meal. Thank you for your opinion. I appreciate it. Very Happy

I prefer Ruth Chris, but both are fairly good. A lot of the steakhouses seem to be over-rated at least here in Chicago.
