I thought it would be useful to have one thread where people can look up (or add) common acronyms that are being used here or on other discussion forums or news groups. There are a lot of people who know what these babies mean but there are also some that may be a bit confused.

So here's the start to the list:

HTH - Hope That Helps
IMHO - In My Honest/Humble Opinion
IMO - In My Opinion
LOL - Laugh Out Loud
ROFL - Rolling on Floor Laughing
TIA - Thanks In Advance
AFAIK - As Far As I Know
'r/o' or 'm'- read on / more
n/m - no more

The last two are common on MUA (MakeUpAlley.com) and discussion boards that often have very short posts with no actual content (content is in the subject of the post).

Have I missed any?

Mabsy

ps. I got this idea because I sent an email to another lady at work today and she emailed me back and said "What does "LOL" mean?". Until now I kinda took it for granted that everyone knew them (I'm a bit biased - I work with computers... unfortunately Smile)

LOL! How could I forget!

As far as 'ppl' goes, I usually use it in smses (an emails when I'm lazy *blushes*) as a short for 'people'. I'm not sure if it's being used in the same context on MUA, you never know with all these acronyms!

MUA also has codes for different complexions though:

PPP - Pale Porcelain Princess (for pale-toned skincolor)
LLL - Lovely Light Ladies (for light-toned skincolor)
FFF - Foxy Fair Female (for fair-toned skincolor)
MMM - Marvelous Medium Mademoiselle (for medium-toned skincolor)
DDD - Darling Dark Diva (for dark-toned skincolor)

SurprisedH! I think it was actually PPP that I meant to ask about. That's what I kept seeing online on makeupalley.

j/k is just kidding
tx (treatment-- used in medical field shorthand)
I wanted to add that because so many times I am about to write tx and realize some people may not know that one.

Heh, BRB took me *ages* to figure out when I was back at uni! Everybody kept using it online and I felt so silly so I didn't ask (because by then they've been using it for a while) *blushes* Then I read it somewhere in a mag....

BBL is a variation of it I guess - Be Back Later
