OK, I searched for this, but there are just way too many posts for me to find the exact answer I want.

Can active serum be used on its own without anything else following it?

I was hoping to convince hubby to use Super Serum and Active Serum alternating nights, but he absolutely HATES having to apply more than one layer of anything. Laughing (he also really prefers to use the same thing morning and night).

Anyone here use it without somethign else on top?

I'd have to say I read through most of the threads on IS Clinical stuff and I currently use Active at night, followed by Phyto Corrective. I think that whether you can use the Active alone depends on how resilient your skin is. Some experience redness, some dryness, some flaking, I have not experienced anything like that. However, because the Active contains high concentrations of AHAs prolonged use WILL dry out your skin and may cause irritation (due to the dryness). So even if you don't layer with the suggested hydra cool I think it should always be used with a moisturizer or something soothing/moisturizing like HA.

Hi Tiger,
I've been using Active S. pure for weeks now (every night - except when i have one of my "peel-nights"). I put nothing on the top (and nothing before either), just the active pure. I'm not sure though i could do that during winter, when heating & co. will make my skin dry again.
The super serum is an anohter issue (at least for me) : I couldn't stand the day with the super serum only, with nothing on the top. I don't need too much, a few drops of light lotion (Kosmea's 8th wonder at the moment).
I can imagine though that people with oily skin could handle the super s. with nothing on the top, probably.
I hope this help to convince hubby...

Although I know there's a difference between men's skin and women's skin, I really wouldn't advise using the Active Serum alone. The actives are strong and they tend to draw moisture from the skin and that moisture has to be replenished. Even if your skin is oily, as mine is, moisture is a separate question altogether. My dermatologist explained that following the Active with some kind of moisture replenishing product actually makes the Active Serum itself far more effective.

Laughing katee. Well, I managed to get him into a good routine with shaving (pre-scrub, pre-oil and then afterwards Decleor aromessence oil and aftershave balm) which he is happy as Larry with. And he does 2 products on his eyes (neither which he likes, but that is another story altogether...) Laughing

I had him try L'Occitane Immortelle oil the other night.. then about 15 min later he goes "oh what is that disgusting smell" and leans over towards my feet Shock Embarassed Then he realized that my darling footsies were INNOCENT and the smell wafting up his nose was the Immortelle and he hated it so much that he went and rewashed his face and took the bottle off the shelf. Laughing hmm.. well maybe he can just put his plain old Caudalie vinopulp on after the Active...

I never use Active serum alone either. My beloved Photolagen and Tripeptinon always follow! Very Happy

Oh and tiger_tim - do you think your SO may be a reincarnation of.... say.... Marilyn Munroe? Laughing

Laughing I dont think it is a reincarnation thing.. he is just DESPERATE not to turn into what the Japanese refer to as "oyaji". They are middle aged men with greased hair, APPAULING breath, huge saggy bags under the eyes, and skin covered in brown spots. (OK, well not ALL oyaji are like that, but you get the general picture). That can do a lot to drive a man toward a cosmetic counter (mind you he would NEVER go to a store for consulation! I am his personal facialist Laughing Privacy of the home. Anonimity, dahling).

He never used to use anything... first "products" he used were from Aesop. Their gel cleanser in the shower of a morning and the citrus scented moisturizer. The packaging was "manly" and the scent nice (he likes citrus and mint smelling stuff).

Then he used up my jar of La Mer as a day cream (he liked that too.. especially as he could just pat his palms over his eyes too.. one step, that is his big thing).

After that for about 18 months every day he used the Epiderm tea tree cleansing bar, followed by their Dermabutter. He loved those as they were simple to use (dermabutter could be used on eyes even) and were not "girly".

But those have run out and we are in a bit of a quandry at the moment as I have been using him as my "offloading" pit (um, ie. bought it and dont want to use it up but dont want to chuck it Laughing ). He has started to baulk at this idea and put his foot down on what he "likes": thick cream, not greasy, no strong smell and same one for day and night. In a cleanser he wants soap free (non drying), foaming and easy rinsing (no film).

He wont use a toner (or spritzer after cleansing, though he does carry Depsea water for spritzing in the dry office air)... and he only started using eye cream after the derma butter ran out and he claimed he had a WRINKLE (and they say girls are bad Rolling Eyes )

And now to fess up... the reason I want him to use the Super Serum and Active on alternating nights (aside from the fact it WOULD be beneficial to his skin) is that... I want to use them up faster so I can buy something else for myself. I am not that keen on either product but the bottles dont seem to be getting any emptier! Embarassed Laughing

Heck I can't even convince my hubby to floss his teeth. If he thinks of it occasionally he will put on some generic sunscreen.

Mine's the same way. He has this blackhead on the side of his face that I've been wanting to extract in the worst way...gross, I know Embarassed I even showed him my tweezerman blackhead remover...he would have nothing to do with it. Probably just as well---from the look of things, it would probably just leave him with a big hole in his head Shock
Anyway, back on topic...I use the active serum a few times a week. I was using tripeptinon over it, but, sadly, ran out Sad Now I'm using PSF HA mixed with a little emu oil and it looks and feels wonderful Smile hth

Rolling Eyes You'd think we were trying to change them or something Silenced

I just got the PSF HA and like it as much as the Celex-C HA, at less than half the price! I use it with either the Dr. H normalizing oil or Declor YY.

I think I've asked you before but I can't remember your answer....did you tell me that it was ok to apply IS Clinical Super Serum on my bare skin?
Then I can apply my own moisterizer?

I think you said that you use all of IS Clinical products. What is your skin type again?

Skincare,

It's fine to use the Super Serum on your bare skin - in fact, probably preferable! Also fine to follow it up with your own moisturizer...

As for my skintype - I'm in my early 40s now (eeek...I had just gotten used to being 40 and THEN I woke up one day and was 41 Exclamation - funny how 40 suddenly sounded so much better...lol), my parents are both from the Mediterranean (Greek and Italian), and I share their coloring, as well as their oily skin. My skin is not at all sensitive, pretty thick, and very resilient. No wrinkles to speak of (except for nasolabial lines and that \/ between my eyes which I erased with botox), but before I started using the IS Clinical, I had enlarged pores that I always thought looked clogged, somewhat uneven skintone, and was very concerned about keeping my skin firm. HTH.

Don't you hate the deep V lines between your brows? I have them and dislike when someone ask me "what is wrong?" and I was not upset but in a very good mood! lol

Thanks for letting me know about the super serum. Just confused on how some people are using a different ISC serums on their face? How would you know what to put on first? How do you choose what should be put on your skin and how many of ISC serums you apply?

I get the same comment very often too. LOL I've been using Super Serum for the past few days with hopes that it'll help. Applied it after my ACV and apply Dr H Day Oil over it. So far can't tell much yet. Will try for another 1-2 weeks and update accordingly.
