So we are not allowed to bring any liquid, gel or cream stuff to the plane now. what elses can we bring so as to keep our skin in good shape even after a long-haul flight? Paper masks or anythings? |

I think we aren't allowed to bring any form of liquid on the plane except milk (for infants). Not so sure though |

Depends on the country I think. I gather that, as a consequence of the current threat, in the UK and in the US you are not allowed to bring any cosmetics onboard - not even lipbalm or eyedrops. All you can bring is your wallet and passport by the looks of things. Nothing to read either. When traveling with babies you can bring milk on board but need to demonstrate that it's milk (i.e. taste it) at the security check. That's all I know and that may be flawed (it's just based on the news we get here). |

Hubby needs to go to New Orlean tomorrow and come back on Monday. No carry on, and needs to be at the airport 4 hours ahead......... Flying 5 hours with no reading material........I don't how he's going to survive. |

Hi. I just had a flight within the US (and as soon as I arrived, I'm checking EDS...). Anyway, no lipbalm, mascara etc allowed on internal flights. I don't know about a compact. I didn't want to risk it. The second check is done almost before boarding the plane, so only option is to throw it away. No water/juice. But you can take reading material, cell phone, laptop. I took a sandwich too. My colleague says no reading material from the US to the UK though. |

I thought the new rules are a bit stringent and unpractical...I mean surely dangerous devices are likely to be more present in cell phones and laptops vs tiny skincare jars.. |

I didn't think they allowed any electronic devices as that's what is needed to ignite the expolsive material. |

I think different places are now implementing various levels of those restrictions. I'm pretty sure you can still bring laptops on internal flights in Australia. But, in and out of UK all electronic equipment and any liquids, creams, etc are not allowed because they're too risky given what has been uncovered. |

This link from Cathay Pacific's website sets out current restrictions for flights to/from UK and US.

Note they advise passengers to pre-pack hand carry items in check-in baggage.... Then it states the airline will not accept any liability for loss or damage to items checked in. |

Do they increase your weight limit for the check in lugguage? Gonna overshoot all the time if they don't |

I can understand makeup and toiletrees but how is reading material i.e. a book or magazine a security risk? What is the logic behind this? |

I think the reading material is an issue at the moment because they are afraid of people concealing something within the book or magazine. Also, the less stuff people are carrying, the easier it is to make sure that you thoroughly search them. Books and magazines are extra clutter and distraction.
I do not envy anyone who is working in airport security - what a terrible responsibility to face every day; being the last line of defence trying to outwit organized and determined murderers.
This whole thing is a pain the butt - thanks Osama, appreciate it - but, if that is what it takes, then, I guess, so be it. Airlines will have to provide more water and entertainment on flights, their passengers may go insane from boredom. |

Similar for Canadian domestic flights. No liquids, gels, etc.
However, they did not say anything to my chapstick that was in my pocket ... |

Couldn't they ask all reading material be scanned through the X ray machine like carryon used to be? I still don't see why that is not possible. |

My guess is that it can be impregnated with liquid explosives and then dried to look normal. But, I think mainly they try to limit the number of items you can bring on to minimise risk. My friend just got back yesterday from London - she was allowed her wallet, her passport, sealed prescription medicine and her glasses (all in a large see-through plastic bag). |

So far it appears that all airlines flying to/from UK and US are implementing these new security measures. No liquids, gels, etc and no hand luggage. Some places (UK) are beginning to lift the restrictions partially (allowing one piece of luggage into the cabin), but still no liquids, etc. |

Perhaps they could strike up mid-flight karaoke contests... No wait, that might tempt someone to try and bail mid-flight..
Flights ex Japan are just no liquids (drinks), but other than that, all hand luggage is OK from what I hear.
I sure hope when I fly to Oz next month that I can have some kind of eye drop and oil.. maybe if I slather my face, arms and hair thickly at the boarding gate I can stay protected during flight
And yes, the reason for no balms, creams, etc is that they can conceal liquid explosives. At the moment, two of the people arrested supposedly were going to put the explosives in baby bottles with false bottoms - then board the plane with their 6mth infant. |

Here's the TSA link w/security updates. You can choose to receive email notifications, as well. As posted, you can bring laptops and other electronic devices but no gel/liquid beauty products, it seems. I will have to check my normal carry on. What a pain!
Also, they recommend 2 hour arrival time before. What fun.
Oh well.

I'd rather get to the airport 4 hours early (I usually do anyway) and they check every single thing. I thought it was easy nowadays to check for explisives or if someone has handled them recently. They wafted a wand thing over everyone who was on a flight from Byron Bay to Sydney (this was about 6 montyhs ago). |

I am disturbed at the thought of tasting my own breast milk or formula for that matter. You would think they could do some sort of test for those that didnt involve actually having to drink it. Poor mommies...glad I dont have to fly anywhere soon! |

Flights leaving the UK you can't carry much through checks..but on the other side you can buy stuff in duty free as it's been checked. Definitely books etc(unless going to the US) but the news isn't saying much about beauty stuff! |

Vonstella, why is that disturbing? You mean it's fine for your baby to eat and drink it, but you won't try it once? |

If there are baby bottles with false bottoms in existence, what would tasting the contents prove? |

Have security inspect the container then have the passenger taste it. Why should they have to bring in expensive testing equipment for every airport because a passenger doesn't want to taste it? |
