Hi, I've been absent for a while, very busy round my way.

I was hoping I could ask for your expert advice again.

I've been using Dove moisuriser, you know that one with fake tan added. I've tried a few fake tans before and never really got any colour out of them. This Dove one gives me colour after the first application.

So I know that you are not supposed to colour your elbows and knees with the stuff as they go darker. But what I've noticed is after maybe three applications is that I have a great tan, but pale elbows and a noticeable patch around them. How does one avoid this?

I of course do the exfoliation before I apply the tan and stuff too.

I'd love to hear your advice, you guys are invaluable for beauty tips.

Apply the colour to your elbows and knees. I have never had any problems with patches or darker colour on these areas. I think they say blend well or add moisturiser to these areas, but don't be afraid of the self tan, it really is easy to use and especially since yours is a light colour. Good luck Smile

I'm fair-skinned and LOVE Banana Boat's Everyday Glow in Medium (the Fair shade is too light; Fair would be good for someone who is ghost white). The tan is completely natural looking (much better than Jergen's, which is a little orangey).

Anyhow, I avoid the elbow/knee problem by applying it all over, then I take a clean rag and gently rub it off those areas after a minute or two, as well as areas that wouldn't get as dark as other areas do naturally (under curves of breasts, armpits, around feet, etc.).

I used to use self tanner, and I had no problems applying the product to the knees, elbows, etc... just use it sparingly. I found that if I had left-over on my hands after doing my legs I would use it on the "hard to apply" spots. It was just enough.

Jeannine : Interesting that you find Jergens orangey-I thought that was just me. The smell is awful too. I found that I could apply it streak-free for about three to four applications, and then it would get quite orangey, streaky, and uneven. No matter how hard I tried to apply it.

With the tanners in the moisturizers, you shouldn't have a problem with darkness or streaks around your elbows or ankles, etc. I would run into that with some regular tanners, but used a moisturizer on those areas first and then put it on. So, essentially, I was doing what they have bottled now. If only I had marketed..... Laughing

ps - I am so glad that I am not the only one who thinks Jergens stinks. I can't even put it on in the morning, because i can smell it all day.

ArtTeacher Laughing I'm the same way. At work I'll think "what is that smell?" "oh yah, it's me. I applied Jergens last night"
The smell can't even really be described.

Be sure to exfoliate those areas really, really well that make sure they're smooth, and moisturise them well too.

Only apply a small amount of fake tan to them - maybe what's left on your hand after you've done your arm or leg.

Starkers,

so you like the Dove one? I was at the Chicago Air and Water show over the weekend and my back, upper chest and arms got A LOT of sun. I have two weddings to attend next month and my legs need some helps since they're unbelievably pasty white! Crying or Very sad

ariesxtreme: Yes, I love the Dove stuff. Like I said I've used a couple of others and I got virtually no difference after like 3 applications. I think I've used Neutragena and Ambre Solaire before. I told my sister about it and then she heard some others raving about it, so she got it and was happy too. She used the light to normal and still got a nice colour. I used the darker one. It smells great when you put it on, kinda like a passionfruity smell, but then after an hour or so it does smell rather ordinary. I seriously notice a difference after just one application, better than three apps with those other ones. I think I even got up to 7 whole body applications out of one bottle. So it's very economical too.

I went to the pool yesterday and did some laps and I got a little sunburnt, maybe more sunkissed. We're still in Winter here but it's getting warmer and silly me didn't put sunscreen on. So now I have the lovely tog marks from my speedos.
