I have combo skin. I do get breakouts, but I tend to get dry easily too - espcially around my nose and chin. I would like to try a Decleor oil. Would the ylang-ylang be too drying for me, or is that what I want since I tend towards break outs (nothing major, but the here-and-there)?
Do I need another moisturizer in additon to the oil? I think I am going to try the Dr. H cleansing milk and cream - for new cleansers. Does this sound like a decent plan for me? I will likely throw in some JB Peel for good measure. lol
Thanks again! |

hi
I'd go for the neroli oil instead of the ylang ylang one, and yes you need a moisturizer after - to "seal in" the EO's in the oil... Don't know anything about DrH, haven't used any of their products.

I'm interested in this too. I asked a similar question a few weeks ago and the best suggestion was jojoba oil. It's too early to tell if it's working but so far so good. I've also tried samples of Dr. H quince day cream and love it. The cleansing cream is great and the milk isn't bad. HTH |

ArtTeacher, I have combo skin like that. I have hormonal breakouts but if I treat it like oily skin, I dry up and peel. I use either Decleor Neroli or Dr. H Day Oil and the only thing I've been putting on top of it is sunblock when I go out.
Ruth, That's interesting that you suggest a moisturizer over the oil. Maybe because it's so humid down here I don't need extra moisture.
I've been thinking about trying the Decleor Aroma Purete Matt Finish Skin Fluid so I don't look so shiny after applying the oil but it says this is for use with the Ylang Ylang oil. |

I found the Dr. H oil more drying than the Ylang Ylang from decleor. I just put on some sunscreen on top of the decleor. I just haven't found it drying. |

That is great to know, I've wanted to try the Ylang Ylang but I was afraid it would be too drying. |

Regarding the moisturizer I think it depends on your skin and whether you need it or not. For sealing in the oil on your skin you can just splash a little water on your face or use a face spritzer after the oil has been absorbed.
I don't find Decleor drying, but you may want to try Clarins' Lotus Oil (double the amount for less price). That is supposed to do the same thing as the Decleor and for me it was actually a bit too moisturizing but it might work for you because I'm not prone to dryness at all. |

I wouldn't put moisturizer + sunblock over the oil, but I definitley put something over the oil - one or the other...4 "drops" of oil doesn't cut it for me, I go deeply dehydrated if I don't use a moisturizer as well. But I'm the type who goes dry from splashing my face with only water
You don't have to combine the Purete Matt with the ylang ylang, I've used it with neroli and it worked out very well. This was back in the days when I started takeing care of my skin, which was in a terrible state coz of crazy hormones and Vichy Oligo.

i've got samples of neroli, iris and angelique oil from EDS from my previous orders.
i've got combo skin, yet i find the most relaxing oil (with the best smell and of course the after feel) is with angelique. just 2 drops is enough as suggested by Decleor.
i use Decleor's Ultra soothing cream on top of it and here comes smooth and well moisturized skin!! i love it!

im about 1/3 way through my fullsize bottle of ylang ylang and have concluded that its way too drying for me. i use it maybe once a week now. i have combo/sensative/acne prone skin. i think using the ylang ylang actually changed the condition of my skin.. which isnt a bad thing lol at least its not as oily as it was before ylang ylang. if you havent chose one already i would really suggest neroli.. |

I have only tried a sample of the Neroli Oil, I love the scent.
As far as all the oils I have tried, this is what I have discovered:
*The Clarins Lotus and Jojoba are both quite drying and are best suited to my skin when it is being very oily and congested. I have so far mainly been using the Clarins at night and the Jojoba I use either night or day.
*Dr Hauschka Normalising Day Oil is the most moisturising of the oils, I love the scent and think that the 30mls does represent excellent value for money, this is why I have purchased this over the Decleor.
The Decleor Neroli smells out of this world, I would not say it performs any better than the other oils I have tried and so cannot justify purchasing for scent alone.
Overall the oil I have noticed the best results from is the Clarins Lotus which is annoying as it smells like cleaning products |

Other than Angelique and the Whitening Aromessence, I've tried all the facial oils from Decleor. I'm in my mid-40s with oily skin which was prone to breakouts and congestion. Much like rosebud, I find there's not a massive difference between them all, other than scent and price (except Neroli - see below).
I found the Ylang-Ylang for oily skin does reduce oil production and isn't drying (but then I do put a moisturizer then a sunscreen on top). However, I find putting any oils on my face tends to reduce oil production although Decleor's Ylang-Ylang and Dr Hauschka's Normalising Day Oil do have the edge in that respect. Would buy both again though Ylang-Ylang beats Dr H scent-wise; Dr H is cheaper but you use more of it if you follow their instructions (Decleor see their facial oils as a first step to be applied before your usual moisturiser, Dr H's oil is the only moisturiser you use).
There's something in Neroli for normal skin than gives me really bad pustular spots, even if I use it just on my neck which never normally gets spots. Must be one of the EOs as the carrier oil is the same in other blends which are fine. Think it might be the parsley. Anyway, this blend is a big no-no for me and the Neroli I have left is now used only to scent my hair.
Rose d'Orient for sensitive skins is wonderful, quite light like Neroli, smells heavenly, calms my skin beautifully and one of my faves. Another one I rotate and have on hand in case I develop an irritation to other products.
Iris oil for aging skins is another good one though slightly heavier than all the others I've tried so far. But can't say I've noticed any particular anti-aging benefits and as it's their most expensive blend I don't think I'd buy again.
Solaire is my least favourite Decleor Aromessence scent-wise - more herby/medicinal than flowery but not unplesant. I always use an SPF sunscreen anyway, but will buy this again next spring/summer as anything that might help stop further pigmentation is a good thing in my book. The whitening oil is next on my list to try.
I do love using oils and have seen a big improvement in the clarity, comfort and suppleness of my skin. If you can, try getting to a Decleor counter and asking for some samples - they have always been very happy to supply them in my experience (and of course EDS often include them in orders too)! Hope you have fun experimenting |

thank you everyone for your advice! i ended up buying the rose oil and asking for samples of the yy and neroli (charlie, i actually had the neroli in my basket until i read your review) if i don't break out from the neroli i will buy that one too since it seems to be the favorite for some other members of the forum.
btw, i also purchased the essential balm, dr.h's rejuvenating mask, and the O2 rescue serum. my wallet HATES me, but i'm hoping my skin will love me after.....
artteacher, i'll let you know how the oils workout for me! |
