The b/f brought it up and we're only about 2 hours away from the Dells being that we're from Chicago. We're thinking about Labor Day weekend and even taking friday off making it a decent little getaway.

Those that have been there, where would you recommend to stay? I checked their site and my friend recommends the Kalahari Resort, but I don't really feel like spending $200/night, but would rather spend the funds for the fun stuff and the water parks and so forth. I don't want to stay at a dump either. We tossed the idea of actual tent camping ,yeah let's see how that turns out Laughing or even renting an RV. Any suggestions on places, attractions and things to do and places to eat would be greatly appreciated!

We go to the Dells every summer. A resort we found and LOVE is called the Wilderness. It's actually down the street from the Kalahari.

The facilities are SUPER clean, alot of restaurants with great food & the biggest draw for us was only the people staying at the resort can use the park. NO LINES!!

We were there little over a month ago & rented a lodge instead of a room. We split it with my brother, SIL, niece & nephew. Was fabulous! Plenty of room, no one bumping into each other. We brought groceries as it has a fully stocked kitchen & had a blast.

*edited to add - if you go and don't bring me fudge from downtown Dells I'll find your car and tow it! Razz

Candy....I love the Wilderness Resort! We've been going to the Dells for years. Of all our family vacations, within the continental US, the Dells is a favorite. One year, we went twice. We've stayed in the Frontier condos and villas, but our favorite place on the resort is the Wilderness on the Lake condos, with a hot tub in a large screened in porch-like area that overlooks the lake. We have not been there since they've build the "rustic" cabins....anxious to stay in one of those. The Dells is touristy, but there's something for everyone, and the Wilderness Resort has lots to do on-site too! Indoor/outdoor waterparks, golf course and a luxurious spa.

My husband usually goes camping in the Dells with a couple friends each year... Dragged me along with one time. Don't remember what campground we stayed at, but it was not at all fun... I'm not really a camping person though. I'd MUCH rather spend $200/night than sleep on the ground and go without running water!

I can't really give good recommendations on where to stay... We're such a short drive away (I'm in Milwaukee) that if we do go we'll leave early in the morning and come back late that same night.

I'm sure you'll have fun! There's SO much to do there!

Thanks for the heads up on the wildnerness resort, checking out the site and definitely a lot more reasonable in regards to the price. It looks so much fun too, I love water parks!

Thank you girls!

P.S. if we do end up going, no prob on the fudge, you're taken care of. Wink

Make sure you call to make the reservations. The rates vary greatly. The closer to the time you're planning on being there, if they haven't booked as many as they thought the rates drop........alot. So even after you make your reservation make sure you call & check again.
