Hi,
I'm heading to Taiwan in about 3 weeks. Just wondering if anyone has any good recommendations on good buys (esp skincare items that are only found in Taiwan or cheaper over there) and good eats.
Thanks in advance! |

I lived in Tainan, Taiwan for about 4 months but sorry I have no advice on skincare. I will say however, that the department stores carry hundreds of brands. More than I've ever seen in my life under one roof. The shopping was pretty great too.
Now as for food, my favourite things to eat and drink were these delicious little sandwiches (usually tuna and egg salad) in these sweet glazed breads fresh from the bakery each morning, and the juices and milk teas of course, and dumplings and rolls and you have to have a few goes with a "hot pot". My favourite restaurant was this cute vegetarian one across from my apartment that made the best fried "pork chop" (tofu really) and great noodle dishes. Mmmm I love food. LOL |

Hi Wildflower,
Thanks for your quick response. Those food sounds YUMMY! Can't wait to check out the food scene there.
I know Sasa has shops in Hong Kong and Singapore. Do you know if there is any Sasa in Taiwan? TIA. |

I'm pretty sure I saw a Sasa when I was in Taiwan. If not, there are many Sasa-like stores (and of course, I had to go in all of them, LOL!!) so I imagine you should be able to find some fun stuff. Like wildflower said, the department stores are a veritable font of goodies--- Taipei 101 is enormous and a good place to start. Have fun!! |

Goofygal,
Lots of people love the paper type masks. There are lots to choose from... I never tried them since I have sensitive skin.
Albion is a really popular Japanese brand available in dept stores. DHC stuff is available at your local 7-11. Antihistamines like allegra, zyterc are available in the local pharmacy without prescription. You can also get retinoid from the pharmacist.
I love to eat at the local roadside stands. I had the best fried rice from the stand that was sold in little plastic bags. Don't forget all the ice drinks and shaved ice. Also the traditional chinese breakfast like soybean milk and fried dough. I am drooling already. Of course don't forget to go to the night market and bargain!!!
Enjoy your vacation. Hopefully the weather has cooled down a little.
You should also check out taipei 101 and take the elevator all the way to the top. 101 has a pretty good food court. |
