Has anyone here ever had a glycolic peel? If so, how effective would you say they are? |

For my skin type (combination), and as I was already using glycolic products daily, it was unnecessary and unpleasant. I had been using 15% Glycolic twice a day for years, and my skin looked great. I tried the peel in an effort to decrease hyperpigmentation. The person put 20% on me, and as I didn't feel anything after a few minutes, she put a layer of 30% on top of the 20%. After a few minutes my face was tingling / burning. Then she sprayed water on my face and put a thick layer of Aveno cream on my skin. I looked hideous for days - my face was red, puffy, swollen, still burned, broke out (from Aveno), then peeled. It was about two weeks before my skin was "normal". No effect on hyperpigmentation. Not worth the $$.
If someone hasn't used any product with glycolic or alpha hydroxy acid you may notice an appreciable improvement in skin texture from a peel, but I believe the same result can be achieved by regularly using good skin care products at home with regular exfoliation. I started at 5%, quickly moved to 10%, and have been using 15% for years. |

I have just used the Neostrata 10% and 20% peels and I find them great. There is no down time at all and your skin just looks brighter and smoother afterwards. I just make sure to use them at night because your face can be a little red afterwards. I know they aren't has potent as getting them done at a spa but they are a lot more convenient! |

I have had 4 glycolic peels done in my Derm's office. Smoother skin was all I achieved. For my skin type - over 55, hyperpigmentation, rosacea and wrinkles - in my opinion, not worth the money - as they did nothing for my skin issues. |

Personally I find glycolic drying. I prefer lactic peels. Lactic works well on hyperpigmentation plus as I understand, it helps with collagen production.
I have also had peels that combine glycolic with lactic with nice results. |

I have given myself a Glycolic Peel a couple times and my skin is so dry afterwards. I am 52 years old, if that matters. I prepared my skin by washing and did a light peel with salicylic 10%, after a couple minutes, washed that off, then did a Glycolic 50%. I then put on Hydrating Replenish Serum and Hyaluronic Replenishing Cream. My skin is so very dry. I put on layer after layer and it is still dry. The product line is Puramed. Anybody have any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong or what to moisturize my skin after. |

I know that salicylic is drying. Glycolic is not my favorite peel. After trying several peels Lactic Acid 50% leaves my skin soft and still hydrated. LA is recommended for mature skin.
To restore moisture to you dry skin I suggest emu oil. HA serum can be drying unless you apply it first then your moisturizer.

Benefits LA:
Because Lactic Acid is a naturally occurring human metabolite, there is much less chance of allergic reaction using this type of acid peel. If you are looking for a peel with a good acidic value and with virtually no irritation, then this product is for you.
Loosens and removes the surface debris on the skin.
Softens comedomes.
Deep cleans pores.
Softens fine lines.
Extremely effective at stimulating natural collagen production
for a fresh, moistened look. Great for mature skin.
This particular formulation contains licorace extract, an extremely effective botanical skin-lightening additive.
Is a non-irritating acid treatment and great for sensitive skin.
No "down time", no noticeable flaking of the skin, just a sloughing-off of the dried, glued together
sebum and surface skin debris

I do 30% GA peels by myself and my skin loves them. I have very oily skin so maybe that's why it's good for me. |

I talked with a skin specialist today and told her I did a glycolic peel of 50% and that my skin is so dry. She told me that my skin feeling tight is normal after a peel in that the top layer get damaged and peels after a couple days. She told me that glycolic is not the best peel for anti-aging. She told me that after care is very important after a peel. By the way I am 52 years old. She advised me to purchase dermalogica sensitized skin kit it was only $30.00. It is a travel kit - small sizes. She told me to wash my face with a very mild cleanser, the kit has a cleanser. Then use the soothing protection spray on my skin and barrier repair and/or the intensive moisture balance. Just thought I'd pass the info on. |

you use 50% LA? is that the professional solutions one? At 30% my skin was really peeling badly. I'm good with 10% and occasionally use 20% but have a good few days of redness after. I only use glycolic on my feet now |

I use 50% Lactic from Platium Skin Care. I have never had any redness or peeling. I purchased the Lactic as it was recommended for mature skin. I was told LA has no down time. It has worked very well on my skin. |
