Hi!
I am hoping someone out there will be able to help me out!
I recently moved to Chicago from overseas and I think my skin can't seem to get used to the wind and cold weather here.
I have always had dry skin but it was manageable when I was overseas. Since moving to Chicago it has gotten really bad...extremely dry and dehydrated!
The products that I have been using doesn't seem to help...I have tried Dermalogica, Caudalie, etc.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you! |

Which specific products from those lines have you tried?
For windy cold weather you'd need a thicker cream with a smaller water content. Also it probably wouldn't hurt to use a hydrating serum undermeath the cream as well. Perhaps some B5 gel from Skinceuticals would do the trick? It's supposed to be used over vit C serums (which tend to dry out the skin) so it's quite a moisture boost.

ps. Also remember to treat your skin to some moisturising masks a couple of times a week. Thalgo, DDF and Phytomer make some really good ones. I'm sure there are many more but these are the ones I've tried. |

Hi Mabsy,
Thank you for your advice.
As for Dermalogica I have used practically everything which they for dry skin - intensive moisture mask, hydrating mask, skin smoothing cream, hydrating booster, etc
As for Caudalie I have used their anti aging moisturizing treatment, anti-oxidant cream, buffing cream, serum and mask.
But my skin is still terrible!
Even when I wake up in the morning my skin is all dry and flaky and feels awful.
Do you think going for a facial at a salon/spa will help? |

As far as Caudalie goes, I have also tried some of their moisturisers and have not been all that impressed with them.
A facial might help, in that you should receive professional advice on your skin. Plus it will pamper your skin a little too I don't go have facials myself because I actually do my own. My dad always said that I had enough products to open a salon, he might be close to the truth there
Replying to Leeleedeedee's post about Dr Hauschka, however, has reminded me about the Dr H Rose Day cream. Perhaps you can obtain a sample of it and see how you go with this one? It's quite a rich moisturising cream. If in doubt, you can call EDS and I'm sure they will be happy to suggest products that might better suit you in the "Chicago climate"

Is your skin still experiencing trouble? Just asking, because it won't be cold in Chicago after winter leaves .... HUMID, HUMID, HUMID! |

I also live in Chicago and find the winters quite drying. It is starting to warm up, but I'm still dealing with dry skin, too.
Are you having any problems with breakouts from using rich moisturizers?
I have been using Mary Kay's Intense Moisturizing Cream. It goes on thick, but then it absorbs quickly and doesn't leave you skin greasy or sticky - and a little goes a long way. It doesn't have anti-aging ingredients so you don't have to worry about reacting to those types of ingredients. I only use it once a day as needed (usually in the morning)and it works great for me.
I've also heard of that their Extra Emollient Night Cream is a miracle product. I haven't been using that, but I have used it before on my face before and it didn't break me out. I use it on my hands and feet and it works great. It is was originally made for the face and therefore formulated for facial skin - not rough heels. You might want to try just plain Vaseline at night, too.
Don't forget to drink lots of water, too. How often are you washing your face? What are you currently using to wash your face? It may be too drying. And don't forget next winter to wear a scarf in that windy downtown weather!
Hope this helps! |

Regardless if you're (still) dry & dehydrated, I will advise the following products for you:
1. A nourishing cleanser such as: Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution, Yonka Cleansing Milk, Phytomer Gentle Cleansing Creme, or Sothys Softening Cleansing Milk.
2. A toner to restore skin's pH & prepare for moisturizing: Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner, Yonka Lotion N-Dry Skin, Phytomer Rosee Visage/Face Dew, Sothys Softening Lotion.
3. An exfoliant to remove clinging, dead cells: Dermalogica Daily Microfolaint, Yonka Gommage 305, Phytomer Peeling Vegetable Enzyme Mask, or Sothys Gommage Exfoliant.
4. A nourishing moisturizer: Phytomer Hydration Reinforcee, Sothys Hydraoptimal Cream, Decleor Aromaessence Angelique Oil (Angelique Balm at night) followed by Hydra Floral Creme or Nutri-Delic Meltingly Soft Nourishing Creme, Cellcosmet Ultra Vital.
5. A mask to comfort: Cellcosmet Anti-Stress Mask, Decleor Nourishingly Sof Mask, Dr. Hauschka Moisturizing Mask, Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Mask, or Juvena Juvelia Creamy Mask Plus. |

Hi everyone!!!!
Thank you all so much for all your help!!!!
But yeah my skin is really really dry/dehydrated. I don't even know if it is dry or dehydrated.
But when I smile I can feel it stretch!
I don't have breakouts when I use rich moisturisers.
I have tried most of the Dermalogica stuff for dry skin and it doesn't seem to help me for some reason. But maybe I should try the Yonka stuff you mentioned. Are they expensive?
Thank you very much again! |
