I started my new skin regime on Sunday. I took the Dr. H's C Cream recipe and the vit C serum recipe and made a batch. I also started back on my retin A. Also made up a batch up DMAE cream.
Morning:
cleanse with cetaphil
Dr. H C Cream
green tea toner
vit C serum
DMAE day cream
Evening
cleanse with cetaphil
green tea toner
Dr. H C Cream
retin A
Skinceuticals B serum
DMAE night cream
I am now looking like a lizard/snake? Is this normal or am I overdoing it.
Recommendations?

salli I DO think that you are overdoing it. It sounds like you added RetinA and Vitamin C serum to your routine at the same time and both of these are actives. Even the DMAE is something that could be irritating and that you may need to work up to. My advice is to only add one active at a time. Give your skin a few weeks to adjust then add another one. This is particularly important to do when introducing a retinoid like RetinA. I think that you eventually should be able to tolerate all those actives unless your skin is very sensitive but adding them all at once is probalby too much for most people. HTH |

I agree with TheresaL 100%. You should only add one active at a time, I usually wait at least 2 weeks inbetween adding new products to my routine. Im on Retin-A too and have noticed that it causes my skin to have a bigger reaction to other activs. Not always a bad reaction but at least some drying and peeling. I would suggest that you stick with everything except the Skinceuticals B serum, DMAE day/night cream. Give your skin about a month to adjust then slowly add the DMAE creams, *one at a time* with a couple of weeks to adjust inbetween. Im no expert on DMAE so I dont really know how to work it in to avoid a reaction, hopefully someone else will jump in! HTH! |

Hey no worries! I think we are all guilty of it at one time or another, I still have to restrain myself! |

hi! as a long time retinoid user, I find that layering products usually ends up with worse results than just doing a very simple regimen..and it will be really hard to figure out what product is working/not working when you're using so many.
I was using serums and multiple creams, and my skin was so congested -- the retin a is powerful stuff, so you may find you don't even need all that other stuff (besides a great moisturizer) |

Hi Salli, it looks like a great routine, but I agree with what the other's said- don't start it all at once. Also, you may find using the cetaphil and the cleansing cream to be too much cleansing. I had oily, acneic skin before started using retin-a, now I just clean my face at night, with oil! Also, you must use a sunscreen, at least an spf 30 (make sure it's photostable! If you aren't sure you can search the forum or ask) when you are using a retinoid (really you should always use one regardless, but your skin is extra photo-sensitive when using retinoids) or you will set yourself up for serious damage. Good luck! |
