I have really enjoyed using the IS Clinical Suoer Serum, but now that I have about 1/4 left of the bottle I think it has gone off. The colour has darkened to a deep golden orange and it stings me when I apply it. Should I throw it out or does it still have any benefits for my skin? The stinging fades instantly and I wonder if it could be due to me applying it too quickly after a hot shower, but then the colour has changed so much and I know how fragile vitamin C serums are...

Hi Smoothskin - I toss my C serum when it turns, just to be on the safe side (don't want to put expensive oxidants on my skin, just expensive anti-oxidants!). When I tried Super Serum, it turned orange about 2/3 of the way through the bottle. Then I switched to SC CE+Ferulic. It started turning yellow about 3/4 of the way through. I've stuck with the Ferulic, but after reading a suggestion here to refrigerate C sera, I've been doing it and haven't had to waste much product. Yet. I hope. So you may want to keep your next, fresh product in the fridge from the moment you open it -- I think you'll get more mileage out of it.

I have also chucked a superserum when I had about a quarter left.Depends also on how it is when you start. I've had one super clear at the beginning and didn't turn much at all. Mind you, I never tried putting it in the fridge-can't see meself running up & down the stairs in the morning Embarassed

Seriously if it's a burnt orange color I wouldn't use it.

mine too.. 1/4 left and it turned a dark, burnt orange and the texture seemed to change too, so off to the bin it went. Sad It started to "turn" about 2/3 through, and was fine at first (Iused other C serums when they went darker) but it was very quick to move to the stage where it was unusable. I wish these companies would make 15ml bottles rather than 30mls...

Smoothskin, your serum is definitely one for the bin. I had the same thing happen when I was using Vit C products, they would gradually change colour and then start to sting my face. I got sick of tossing Vit C products so don't use them anymore for that reason. I get My Vit C from other types of products where the C is stable.

I had the same problem and I am very good on how quickly I seal the cap once I have applied some serum onto my hand, then my face.
EDS asked me which of the two I liked better between Vivier & Super Serum and I could not answer her question. Super Serum is runny like Cellex-C and Vivier almost feels like a moisterizer when being applied.
Once I read this post, I have to admit that Vivier does not go as dark that quickly. I guess that is a bonus. Very Happy

Would it help at all if you put some in smaller bottles and put them in the fridge? Then when you open one up your only opening one up that contains about a weeks worth, or two, or three?
I am just curious because I just recieved my super serum and I don't want it turing dark orange. Right now its like a light yellowy color, is that okay?

Uh oh, now I'm worried. I got a little box of 10 sample size Super Serums off of eBay awhile back. I would think that the small size of the bottles would help me get more mileage out of the product. From what I remember, the product that I received was always a dark orange. I just opened a "fresh" bottle and it is the same dark orange color and also stings my face a bit (I thought that was normal). Don't tell me I've been slathering oxidants on my face for the last 6 months! Oh boy.... Sad

Thanks everyone, I have thrown it in the bin and I think I have also had enough of runny, stingy vitamin c serums. I can't give up on the ingredient though as I really like it and was thinking of the Environ creams with vitamin c and a. Has anyone used these?

Smoothskin, I think the Environ products could be ok because they seem to be in good containers to limit light and air and they are also very explicit about the shelf life once opened.

Tidieu, I currently use the Valmont Infinite Radiance Serum and Regenerating Radiance Cream. Now I don't know how much Vit C is in them but I am happy about the formulation as one is a water based form and the other is an oil based form. This type is good for about 6 months and is effective over 3%. This form is also good for sensitive skins.

Just recently I was also interested to read JCH's opinion which was backed up by seemingly legitimate information that the addition of ferulic acid to Vit C (ascorbic acid form) makes the Vit C more stable. I may try and get a sample of this but I am quite happy with the Valmont C products.

Hi Ladies!

I too had to toss my SS even though I transferred some into a small vial. Might I suggest if any of you are looking for a stable Vit C, than you might try SkinMedica's version. The product is very stable as it is in a base of dimethicone and Vit. E. It gets rave reviews on MUA. I personally don't care for it because I don't like that slippery feeling. This might not be an issue for some of you. Please let me know if any of you find a stable version of Vit C that has a liquid consistency.

Doesn't SkinCeuticals do a Vit.C with ferulic acid ? Their Vit.C is supposed to be same consistency as Cellex-C, so I wonder how the texture is with the ferulic acid in it?....

I think any serum with vitamin c will go off before the end of the bottle... I have just located a salon which carries Environ so I might go there for a facial and check out their vitamin c cream.
