I love to hear stories like this. The longer the better... Hopefully in the near future I will have my own story to share. Smile

Great topic anomaly! I am single and also love those type of stories and hope I have my own to tell soon too. Could people put the their age that they met too if they don't mind?

i met mine when i was 15, he was 19. I was at my friends house and he was friends with her older sister. He looked like a freak, long hair, goatee...honestly, he looked like jesus. *L* I went to a party when I was 22 and saw him again after not seeing him for 5 or 6 years and I thought he looked cute all clean shaven with short hair. We talked and he drove me home...gave me a nice kiss goodnight and we've been together for 5 years now.

Not married yet...but I hope someday soon we will be.

Wow, what a great thread! OK, here's my story: After I graduated from college I lived in Japan for a time. I was flying back to the US for Xmas (like a 10 hour flight), and when I took my seat on the plane I found myself next to the most gorgeous guy I had ever seen. I wasted NO time in introducing myself and flirting with him (heck, we were talking and laughing before the plane even took off), and we totally hit it off. We basically talked and flirted for the entire 10 hours, but I was sorta-involved with someone back in the states and he was definitely involved with his girlfriend back in Singapore (he was living in Singapore for work at the time), so we kept a bit of a distance and to be honest I had a hard time really telling if he was really interested or not. (I'll tell you ladies this, though--- I went to the bathroom like every hour to powder my nose, apply lotion and lip gloss, etc... gotta cover all your bases, LOL!!) We exchanged contact info and said we'd keep in touch and then we parted ways when we got to the US.

When I got back to Japan after the holidays DH and I started chatting on the internet. We got along well, and since Singapore is almost in the same time zone as Japan it was nice to have someone to talk to while my friends and family were fast asleep on the other side of the world. Soon we started talking on the phone, and before I knew it we were talking on the phone very day. DH admitted to me that he had actually seen me in the airport in Japan before we boarded the plane and that he thought I was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, and he said he got to shock of his life when I actually sat down next to him and started talking to him--- nice! Eventually neither one of us were seeing other people anymore, so we started visiting each other in Japan and Singapore. We kept on like this until I moved back to the US, but we decided that we still wanted to continue our relationship so we still visited each other whenever we could, and during one trip to Singapore we took a side trip to a little beach in Indonesia and that's where he proposed! And the rest, as they say, is history...^-^

Mine story is both happy and sad. My b/f used to be my brother's best friend. My brother joined the navy a little over 2 years ago and we all went out to celebrate his last days before he left for bootcamp. That's when my b/f and I met. The night before he left my brother, his wife, my b/f and I all went out. My brother was already there with his wife and he asked his friend to come and pick me up. I was under the impression that all his friends were going to be there, so I was surprised when it was just the 4 of us. It pretty much escalated from there, except the fact that my brother didn't like it. Apparently there were rumors flying around that he set us up and when it worked he was a bit sour about it.

He basically forbade us from seeing each other and so we snuck around and he found out and pretty much gave us an ultimatum. It was each other or him. I now no longer speaking to my brother and they haven't spoken in about 2 years also. Crying or Very sad My brother was engaged at the time and we were both to stand up in the wedding, he was the best man and I was a bridesmaid. We were both kicked out and he was uninvited all together and told me I was not welcome either. I don't regret what I've done, just waiting for him to grow up and accept it. He's unbelievably bullheaded and feel as though I'll be waiting for a long time. Sorry for such a downer.

Wow Aries, that's some story!! But I just can't understand why your brother would object to you dating his best friend so much--- did he ever actually give you a reason?

NO he did not, when we were somewhat on speaking terms I asked why he objected, all he could give me was that he just didn't like it. What kills me is that he KNOWS that Bryan's a standup guy, one he could actually trust with me. The b/f says he understands where my brother is coming from and why he's upset. I personally can't see it too much, it may be a guy thing.

ariesxtreme - that is so sad. I hope your brother comes around soon - he's losing so much precious time with you that he will never get back.

I think it's easy for him because it's not in his face. He's stationed out in San Diego. He's coming home in January for a month. I have no idea what I'm going to do. I haven't spoken to or seen him in over a year since his wedding. The ONLY reason why I know he's coming is from their circle of friends. The b/f and the brother have the same circle of friends so imagine the drama that'll be created when he comes home...geeze so not looking foward to it by any means.

We used to be so close too, being just the two of us growing up and since my parents worked a lot I took care of him and watched over him almost like a mother although we're only 18 months apart. It saddens everytime I think about it.

It sounds like your brother is extremely jealous and he probably feels like you took away his best friend and his best friend took his sister from him??? You poor things, I hope it will all work out when he comes down.

To be honest, I don't even think it's a jealousy factor, he's a control freak and EVERYONE'S always listened to him just because they were afraid of him, but Bryan's the only one that never took his sh*t. I hope all works out, but believe you me when I say I'll be hybernating for the month he's here. It'll definitely be tense while he's here since everyone lives within a 10 mile radius around everyone. Think they'll be staying with his wife's parents when they're here.

aw, I'm sorry aries. I briefly dated one of my borther's friends and it may be a protective thing. No matter how well he thinks of your bf, he may not be "good" enough for you.

My story is scandalous.(sp?) I was living in Kansas City, and was trying internet dating b/c I was bored. My bf initially winked at me and i winked back and then we began talking over IM. We did that for months, flirting all the time. At one point, he said we should go to the art museum and get indian food so we set a date, but it was then that he told me he was dating someone. I wasn't surprised when he called me and cancelled.

So we continue talking, as friends. One night he was near my neighborhood and so we hung out. The sexual tension was almsot unbearable. The second time we hung out, we both fell victim to it. So then commenced the affair. Horrible, I know. I stopped it, becuase I wanted him to pick me or the other girl. So he said he broke up with her and I was happy as a clam.

Until I figured out that he was lying. So, being my scaredycat self, I messegaed her anonymously and told her about us. They broke up and I stopped talking to him despite his desperate pleas. He even called me from Peru to tell me how sorry he was. He finally convinced me to see him once and we talked for a long time about it. Long story short, we're together now and have been for a year. Strangely, I trust him more than any other man I've been with. Maybe because he knows not to lie to me, I'll find out eventually. We're totally honest with each other and he treats me well. In retrosepct a lot of it was very juvenile, but hey, I'm 23 and am allowed that sometimes, right?

Okay ladies . . .you asked, I tell!!!!!!! The following story if from my wedding program and wedding website that was established through Robin's brothers...the engagement ring store. As unbelievable as it may seem, no a single word is ficticious. Enjoy and please reply! Wink

Oh yea, we started dating when I was 22 when we started dating and we married three years ater the first date. He proposed and we did the whole wedding in 3months. Yikes!

I knew from the moment I saw him that there was something breath taking about him. His captivating eyes allowed a glimpse into the soul of a shy, yet gifted twelve year old boy. I look back at the tattered pages of My Private Journal and I read, I love Michael Pruette: 2-lovers 2-gether 4-ever.

That was 1988 and I was just nine years old. At the time, I didn’t really know what love was, nor did I know what it meant to be two lovers. I didn’t even know how to spell his name correctly and my concept of forever was misconstrued by my childhood scope and distorted measurement of time. I didn’t know much, but I knew that this was a crush unlike any I had ever experienced.

Cheerleading for Pop Warner League football opened the door of opportunity for me to meet the love of my life. If my love made a strong block on the defensive line, I cheered with my heart until my throat began to ache. In my eyes, he was the single most talented player on the field and every play was his absolute finest. Naturally, when I was nominated as Homecoming Queen and got to select my escort from the plethora of eligible players, I chose my heart’s desire. At the big homecoming game, I was adorned with a crown and wore an all white gown and royal cape. Together we awkwardly stood in silence. It was the greatest day of my girlhood.

Thirteen years later, Mikel and I had our first date. That night, I came to find that my girlhood crush had undeniably resided in the inner most chambers of my heart for what truly seemed like forever. It wasn’t long before I discovered that this crush transformed into Love and that this Love was indeed going to be Forever.

Mikel’s wedding proposal is superior to any other I’ve heard. At a Christian gospel fashion show, Mikel premeditated the perfect moment to make his unforgettable announcement. At the end of the bridal scene in which we both participated as models he declared, “My name is Mikel and this is my girlfriend Michelle and I love her very much.” Drowned by anticipation, I found myself temporarily unable to breath as Mikel continued, “I want you to spend the rest of your life with me.” Before he even finished his proposal I uttered, “Of course I will!” He then knelt on one knee, gently grabbed my hand and softly inquired, “Will you Marry Me?” His captivating eyes allowed a glimpse into the soul of a magnificent and honorable man whom I would spend the rest of my life with.

I look back at the frayed pages of My Private Journal and I know that if true love is powerful enough to sustain two children unto adulthood, that with God’s grace, it is strong enough to carry us unto eternity.

...........Oh yea. . .and on our wedding program we had a side by side set of two photos: one was of the homecoming day when I wore a white dress, crown, and cape with him on my side and the other was a current photos of us at my cousin's wedding a year prior to our engagement. By the way . . .I caught the bouquet at that wedding and was the very next to be married (even though others we already engaged) Razz

I don't mean to brag but our story is truly soo lovely!!!!!!! He was a true God send!!!! can you tell that I am a total believer in destiny and true love?

These stories are so sweet! I met my fiance during our 2nd year in college in 1996. He was the teacher's assistant in my lab class. He was the kind of guy I always fell for but never got asked out by. I was (still am) the typical plain jane/ girl next door. He was a bad boy rocker. We'd stop to say hello when we saw each other on campus but it wasn't until the spring of 1999 that we had another class together. It was my last semester and he had one more to go. He started talking to me, helping with projects, asking for my help etc. Our class often went to breakfast before class and out for beers after class. He always made sure I was coming along. I couldn't figure out why he was being so nice to me. We had nothing in common except for our career choice.

After I graduated I stayed in town and a few months later he graduated and headed off to Vegas to start his career. We kept in touch. He came back to town several times to visit family and pick up the odd job for a weekend. He took me out to the jazz clubs and nice resturants. Friends don't really do that kind of thing except we were just friends who went on a lot of "dates". Finally, he convinced me to visit him in Vegas. The last night I was there he finally kissed me. Turns out that for four years we'd both had a crush on each other! Everyone we went to school with knew about it including all the teachers. We just hadn't figured it out yet. So, I went back to Chicago, packed up my things and moved to Vegas. But before I had the chance to move he decided he wanted to spend Thanksgiving with me even though we were 2000 miles apart. The day before Thanksgiving we were talking and I mentioned that I had the holiday off (the next day) but had to work the day after. He pretended he had to get off the phone. He then booked me on a flight to come to Vegas for Thanksgiving. I was in town for only 12 hours and he made a feast. He still won't tell me how much he paid for that ticket!

I lived with him and his roommate until I found a steady job and could get a place of my own. But when the time came he followed me to my new place.

So, we met in 1996, started dating in 2000, and he proposed in Dec 2005. We're getting married in oct 2007. And we've lived together the entire time since we started dating six years ago. I guess you could say we like to take things slow!

Such wonderful stories I just had to comment before telling mine . . .

lianne - OMG .. you married Jesus! I loved your portrait in The Da Vinci Code Laughing

manslayerliz - what a wonderful story.

ari - That is so sad. It's been 2 years - hopefully your brother will grow up soon. My parents had problems with their families. Mom from money, dad not. Both sides practically disinherited until the grandchildren came along.

angyl - You sound more mature than I was at 33 years old! And you're right about trust. I cheated on my long-term BF and he did on me. But there is nothing on earth that would ever make me cheat now.

chellsta - I understand completely, sometimes you just "know"

Misha - what's with those TAs? My good friend married her TA too.

okay ... here's mine.

Let me start by saying "I am NOT a morning person".

So, my boss, the CFO decides that I need to attend an I.T. presentation at Sun Microsystems. It starts at 8am which means I have to be in the office by 6:30am ... did I mention I'm not a morning person?

I'm a bit cranky as we enter the conference room - all I want is coffee, and plenty of it.

I am just about to pour myself a cup of coffee (in pathetically small cups) when I hear someone introducing himself.

'Freaking great, now I gotta stop and chat'

I turn around and hear "Hi Paul XXX, Great to meet you".
I'm staring at his shoulder thinking 'great, great, whatever, great to get some coffee bucko.'

The meeting starts and caffeine sets in and I notice I am sitting across the perfect man.

=== This is where it gets GOOD ===

I had recently read an article about how women act like lobsters in a tank waiting for men to pick them.

I went to my CFO and asked for Paul's email. I told him I was going to ask Paul out for lunch.

CFO laughed and dared I wouldn't do it.
"If you go out to lunch with him - you owe me a 6-pack of beer".

I said "I'll do you better - if we get married I'll give you a case".

I started to write an email but wanted someone else to look at it (I know, lame). I sat in an office with 3 guys, good friends. Bill looks at the email and rewrites every single line.

In conclusion:
My DH actually answered a lunch date invitation written by Bill ... not me.
One year later and CFO got a case of beer on his desk.

But for now -- back to my site-planning-guru duties for twenty more minutes.. Keep the stories coming, they are all most lovely and entertaining!

Great idea for a thread - there are some great stories out there!!!

Mine, well it was in macroeconomics class my first year (second semester) in 2000. I'd sit in the front of the class and this really cute boy would sit beside me or around me from time to time. A couple of months into the term, he had on these great bright orange pants, so he became "hot orange pants boy" to my friends. Near the end of the term, he missed a class and the following class he asked for my notes (this made me super excited because he'd miss class before but he never asked for my notes before). He gave me his pager number in case he was away the next class and I could get a hold of him. Well, I missed the next class, the only one all semester (and no, I did not plan it!). The next class was our last class before we were out for exams. He didn't show. So I had to call him. He came to my dorm and picked up his notes and we had a little chat. And he left. I didn't have the guts to ask him out. Then he calls a week later asking if I wanted to come out one night. So we decided on Thursday and he picked me up. Well, we were going to the bar, but I didn't have any ID except my student card so I wasn't allowed in. And the rest is history. It's been 6.5 years now, we're not married (yet) but have a home and life together.

Never in a million years did I ever think this would be the man for me.

I met the guy I am dating on eharmony. We live in different cities about 4 hours away. After we started emailing, we realized we knew each other from our childhood. We grew up across the street from each other. My family moved to another part of the same town when I was 12, he was 16. (we hadn't seen each other since then)...his parents still live in that house.

We've lead parallel lives, both are divorced, each have 1 son, we both have masters degrees from the same unversity...its a little strange I've known him and his family since I was 2...I'm 42 now. Who knows how it will turn out...its interesting though.

Long distance romance (with accidental meetings, hee!), meeting at Uni, ahhh it all sounds so Box Office romance.

Now, if only those cute guys I am eyeing will ask me out. Laughing

My husband and I met on a French pen pal site. Wink I was there discussing politics (very little), life in general and other such pertinent ideas...in French, of course. I had made it a personal mission to regain my French because I'd always maintained it to a degree through literature, movies, etc. but I wanted to get back my fluency and writing. It worked! You should hear me rattle now!!!

I actually contacted Alain first, which is rare for me but he was so darn cute, I couldn't help myself so I sent an inocuous, "Salut, je m'appelle Patricia...blah, blah". It was very unassuming and a quick way to let him know I was intrigued. We corresponded for a long time with the annoying site messaging system, then to direct email, then to phone, then to video camera (a must, I think in the internet world). We've been together ever since. Smile

It was actually a dream meeting in the case of internet introductions, I think. He was exactly as he said and so was I. We were in similar situations in life (both single for awhile, no obligations, quiet people). I don't get out much due to my work schedule and home office; he's an introvert so it works well. I am big time extroverted but can, and do, spend copious amounts of time alone dabbling w/my hobbies and kitties.

When we met in person (I flew up to see him after some work in Boston for a long weekend), it was like I'd known him forever and he looked even more delicious in person, as if I thought that was even possible! He makes me laugh like crazy and we are A LOT alike - it's almost creepy sometimes. He even listens to my ramblings about skin care. Laughing Of course, we talked about the carbeurator he's rebuilding last night so it goes both ways!

Right now, we live apart and are working on the visa for me to move to Québec. I'll be going up for 2 weeks for Christmas and New Year's so am REALLY looking forward to that.

Last thing and this a big twist that I find totally amusing...his friend, Dénis, was also a member of the same pen pal site. He is the only other guy I contacted (how weird, huh) besides Alain. He never wrote back, thankfully ...that could've been awkward! It's been so long now that I hope when I eventually meet him, he will not remember but I will sure find it funny, if Alain doesn't. Bad Grin

Wow, these are all amazing stories. Keep them coming! Very Happy

The way I met my bf is pretty unusual. We actually grew up around the corner from each other but since he is one of 5 brothers, we stayed as FAR away from them as possible. Laughing We even called their house the "drug house". None of them actually used drugs but since all those boys lived there and it was on a dark corner that's what we nicknamed it.

We actually considered these guys to be our bullies growing up. Not because they beat us up or anything, but anytime we'd have to walk by their house and they would be out playing, they'd always yell rude comments at us. There were many times we would walk completely around the neighborhood just to avoid their house. My bf swears he wasn't one of the ones being mean to the neighborhood girls. I actually do believe him since I remember the "bullies" as being much older than us. His two oldest brothers definitely fit that bill!

Well, about 4 years ago I was in town from college hanging out with my best friend (also grew up in the same neighborhood)and a guy friend of hers. We decided to go to the bowling alley and her friend mentioned that the E***** brothers were meeting up with us. We were both like "Oh, crap!" but they all turned out to be so nice and so much fun. I went back to college and a year later moved back. All along they had become great friends with my best friend so I instantly became great friends with them too. My bf and I were actually really close friends for 2 years before we started dating. Then I guess the sexual tension just overwhelmed us and here we are as a couple another 2 years later. Very Happy

The funny thing is, when we go back and watch some of our old home videos growing up, I actually have my bf and his brothers on a few of them in the background. Laughing

I love these!!!

Mine is short and sweet...after a really bad divorce I was just looking for somebody to take me to dinner & a movie - nothing serious.

I figured the quickest way to find a date was an internet dating site. I started talking to a man in my town and after a couple weeks we realized we lived on the same street Shock .

He had just moved in, which explained why we hadn't met before. We've been dating over a year and have given the neighbors plenty to talk about!

Very cool. Smile

I met my hubby at a party in 2001. We were dancing together. When we left the party, he didn't ask for my number as he said he was too shy to do so. But the next morning... he was very clever lol as he asked his mate whether my phone number was still on his call list as he used my PHONE to call his mate at the party. About two days later, he called up. I was very happy! haha becuz I thought we'd never seen each other again. And since then, we started going out and got married in 2004. ^^

I met my hubby on my very first date...blind date in 1990. It was for the Winter Formal and we were both in the 11th grade. I had never been on a date before and my father had to talk me into it (don't get me wrong...I liked boys, but they made me nervous. I liked them from afar.) Shock

Well, I didn't know him (football player) and he didn't know me (geek) but my friend was dating his friend and they wanted us to go so we decided to make a go of it even though we had never met.

He was my first everything. Date, kiss, eh-hemm... Wink

He proposed at Prom in the 12th grade. He took me to the same resturant in Long Beach that we went to for the Winter Formal...Parkers Light House by the Queen Mary. It was very romantic.

Well, we were engaged for 3 more years before getting married. I am a bit old fashioned and thought we were to young to marry right away after high school.

I tease him because next Feb we will have been together just as long as we have been apart. Which means from birth to us meeting is the same. It is nice to go from teenager to adulthood with someone. We literally grew up together...and yes, we've grown apart, but luckily, we've grown together again too.

My grandmother was right....marriage is like a roller coaster...it goes up, it goes down, and it goes up again. Sometimes the downs are longer than the ups, but if you can stay on- it can be a hell of a good ride.
