thought you kids might want to know. i have been using JM eyelash just once a week for about a month due to extreme irritation. before that i used it everyday for 2 months. so far my lashes are holding steady. even progressing a little bit. definitely not shrinking or falling out. so for those of you trying to make it last until it's available again, take note!
i'm glad, i will be able to keep using it now as i can tolerate the irritation for one night and it's not as bad when my eyes have a week to rest. i do still have a red line on my upper and lower lashline that was caused by the serum and it has not gone away, but it kinda looks like rust colored eyeliner and since my eyes are green, it works out! |

I'm gald that you are getting results. However, I must warn you about this methode. Since your skin obviously reacts to it, you could be pushing the foundations for a sever allergy. An allergy that could cause you to be unable to touch ANY cosmetic or non-cosmetic product with the ingredients you react to, and it could hunt you for the rest of you life.
No matter how much one like or want to use a product, you have gained very little in the end by using a product that inflames and irretate your skin. I don't think you would find anyone knowledable person on this forum that would encourage you or claim that inflammations or negative reactions is good for your skin or something you should ignore. It is however, a safe way to harm or damage your skin, and some of the more "harmfull" side effects could be pre-mature wrinkles, discoloration, broken caps, sever dryness, boils, swelling... for a shorter or longer or indefinite periode of time.
I'm not saying this to scare you, or "single you out", but I hear this philosophy more and more often, and I am stunned at the lack of self-responsibility and self-respect some women have in their quest for beauty.
According to various researches and data from European health and consumer organizations, the amount of people getting severe rashes and allergies each year are increasing at an alarming rate.
Never ever let a fashion trend, personal beauty goal, or the cosmetic industry make you use a product you body can't tolerate - your body and the messages it sends you should always be the most import thing and be the deciding factor.

Using it once a week and still keeping results doesn't suprise me because eyelashes take 2-3 months to grow and fall out so I'm sure you have kept your long lashes since its only been one month. Hopefully after 3 months you will still have long lashes, I would wait till then till you say they are keeping them lush and long. I would use the product more than just once a week to keep them up maybe twice. Hope you can keep your lashes after 3 months. |

i will give another update in a couple months and let you all know. i am not willing to use it any more than once a week due to the irritation so if they revert back to how they were in a couple month, i will have to give up the product.
cyberia, i do not take the irritation lightly, that is why i cut down to once a week. my situation was large very noticeable patches of no lashes following many years of surgeries on my eyelids for styes (the styes were caused by allergies to something i was eating). anyway, having lashes back is not merely vanity, correcting the bald spots has really helped my self esteem. i rarely wear eye makeup because my eyes are sensitive, so keeping the lashes is important to me. i appreciate your concern. |

That is completely up to you of cause. As long as you know that even though you are "only" using it once a week, it is not only the frequency of applications but also the very fact that you are reacting negatively to one or more of the ingredients.
I fully understand your situation, I wish you the best of luck with your new eye lashes |

My aesthetician recommended nightly use for 6 weeks, then stopping completely for 2-3 weeks, then 2-3x per week.
I sort of understand where Cyberia is coming from. I'm really allergic to many drugs. I remember at one time I was on a drug that gave me rashes and welts that would suddenly appear then disappear.
I told the nurse that when I skipped a couple of days, I was okay - so I wanted to continue with the drug - and she scolded me. She said an allergic reaction is an allergic reaction. She said I was basically playing russian roulette hoping that the next time I didn't end up in emergency.
But I totally understand your desire to keep with JM - let's hope you do okay.
Hey, have you tried calling Jan Marini Skin Research? Perhaps others have had irritation and maybe they can recommend something. |

i might try the revita lash, caretake was kind enough to bring to my attention. in looking at it, it seems to have a lot less of the chemical ingredients that JM has, but still has the 'mystery' growth ingredient and seems to be working for people. maybe it will be less irritating. |

Copychick: can I suggest that perhaps you take an antihistamine the day before and the day after you use the serum. This might help with your reaction - it's how I manage to keep dyeing my hair. |

just an update: my lashes are still as nice, and have grown even a bit more using the JMAIE just once a week. (it's been 2 months using it just once a week now.)
also, i did get revitalash hoping that it would not be as irritating to me... it was more irritating! so i'm sending it back and sticking with JM until caretake's comes out. |

Would you mind posting the ingredients to RevitaLash here? I want to compare it to what's in JM and my serum to make sure I'm not using anything (other than the "magic" ingredient itself) that could be the culprit of your allergic reaction....
TIA,
Carrie |

Oooh, I’m betting it’s the “chorides” that are setting CopyChick off! At a glance, that appears to be the only ingredient that the two products have in common: JMAIE only uses sodium chloride, while the RevitaLash uses that and Benzalkonium Chloride (happily, my formula contains neither! ).
CC - iffen I were you, I’d google those two ingredients to see if they have a history of causing allergic reactions like your’s...in fact, you might go a step further and – assuming you’ve had a reaction like this to certain eye-related products in the past – see if other products that’ve caused your eyes to freak out ALSO contain the chlorides.... |

P.S. Or it might be the sodium phosphate.... *scratches head perplexedly* |

Wouldn't citric acid sting? Or, is it like hyaluronic acid? |

You would think so, but it doesn't -- at least not when it's diluted. It's the stuff that makes bath bombs fizz.... |

Weeellll...isn't that basically what "allergy shots" do (inject you with a tiny bit of the allergen to build up a tolerance to it)??! |

i did stick with it everyday for months because i had big chucks of eyelashes missings due to sty surgeries and i was determined to have lashes again. it worked like a charm, but the irritaiton was EXTREME and never got better. once a week i tolerate it because i can't go back to no lashes again. it does have a severe drying effect and i have distinct red lines on both lashlines which some people think is eyeliner!
caretake, i am sensitive to a lot of eye products, in fact, i wear no eye makeup at all anymore because it just isn't worth it, but thanks to the bushy lashes i get more eye compliments than before!
if your serum can maintain my lashes without the irritation, i will be so grateful, please rush it to market, we need you! |

I was reading what you guys are saying about getting longer eyelashes but having irritation. I found this website (blogforbeauty) that women are talking about vaseline making your eyelashes grow! A lot of the women say it works. I hope this can be a safe alternative for you!! |

HI! I just heard about Jan Marini's
"Age Intervention Eyelash" from a friend. She said she's been trying to buy it but it's on backorder.
My lashes and brows are much thinner since chemotherapy 6 ys ago so I am very interested.
It would really make me feel better.
Does anyone know how long they are saying til it will be available again?
I wonder if I should try the Revitalash in the meantime?
Thank you! |

V, no ideas when JM will be back on the market. Although I've heard from other forums that ravitalash works just as jood as jm! You can buy it from eds with the winter discount (not sure if this is still going on) or the forum posting discount Let us know how it works for you if you do decide to order! |
