Hi I'm just posting this after I ran out of hope to find my boyfriend good skincare. So, any guys or girls out there who have found good products for their boyfriends/husbands, please help!!! My boyfriend has combination/oily skin with dark circles and bags under his eys and has some acne and lots of blackheads. We live in a very hot and humid country and it certainly makes his skin worse and he sweats a lot more. We've tried men skincares from different brands (Shiseido, Lancome, Clarins) and products for problem skin, but none seems to help.

Don't know about men specific products, I think it just depends on how much patience he has with a skincare routine.

I have heard good things about Dr H's cleasing cream, but that requires a few minutes each time for use, and is meant to be used daily.

To control the oilies, look at products with BHA and AHA since that helps by drying out the skin and also exfoliating the black heads etc.

I am trying out lemon myrtle soap and I think that would help him heaps since it is similar to tea tree oil but smells lemony.

Wow, I'm impressed that your bf is willing to experiment on skin care. I can't even get my bf to use lip balm. *sighs*

I don't have any recommendations for the bags and dark circles (I'm still on the lookout for a good eye cream myself Laughing ) but I do have a couple of good product recommendations for acne. I highly recommend the Emu-Neem Soap and the Clay-Neem Treatment from Earth to Body. www.earthtobody.ca The products are all natural too.

Yen,

Oh, trust me it's soooooooooo hard trying to get him to even use face cleanser and moisturizer! Good thing is when I buy him something he uses it as he doesn't want me to waste my money and he believes I do it cuz I care Smile He won't use lipbalm either unless I literally apply it on for him which I just pile on his lips every night...hehe. Anyway, I certainly will check out the product line. I've read some good reviews on EDS. Thank you so much.

Lynn

Thanks cuppre. I've been looking into AHA/BHA products for him myself. I've found some from Murad and DDF but they don't seem to get very good reviews on MUA, so I'm not sure whether I should get them for him. Anyway, I have a question. Does Dr.Hauschka Cleansing Cream make you purge? I'm just worried that instead of convincing him that by taking better care of his skin will help his skin clear up, he'll end up purging and giving up on using skincare!

Some people do report purging and that happens with a lot of lines of skincare. I mean some people suggest there should never be purging but others (including the skincare companies) purging occurs because your skin is getting used to a new routine and it is getting rid of the gunk from before.

Even with BHA and AHA you can get a bit of purging.

Why don't you start him on some tea-tree oil products because that kinda sounds manly and it is anti-bacterial and controls oil?

Hi Lynn2525 Smile

I buy skincare stuff for my bf, it all started a few years ago - he wanted a firming eyecream for his birthday!!! and this was before I'd started takeing an interest in my skin Laughing Anyways, back then I got him a Biotherm eyecream for men. He used it and liked it...don't tink it made much difference though. Since I developed an interest in skincare I've bought plenty of Decleor, MDFormulations and Anthony Logistics for him. Anthony just does a mens line, the other two have smaller mens lines than womens lines.

What type of skin does your bf have? Mine has pretty thick skin, beginning to sag (sun and smokeing does that to you, he's 36) and deep lines around eyes and forhead (he'd be upset if he saw this...but it's the truth). He get's the occasional big spot, otherwise nothing really, but he can get oily and his face sweats easily.

Just a quick run down on the mens products I've bought for him and for myself!
Decleor:
my bf likes these: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/decleor-la-creme-des-homm-p_1270.htm
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/decleor-jeu-de-billes-cle-p_1273.htm
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/decleor-deodorant-stick-p_1275.htm
This eyecream made no difference, it's very light textured and lotiony http://www.essentialdayspa.com/decleor-contre-temps-stop-p_1281.htm
and we both love
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/decleor-rasage-tendresse-p_2403.htm (really really good for sensitive skin)

Anthony Logistics:
He's almost finnished this cleanser, he seems to like it but it's nothing special.
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/anthony-logistics-facial-p_151.htm
he's hardly used this aftershave balm...and he hasn't been able to pinpoint why...??
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/anthony-logistics-after-s-p_150.htm
I tried a sample of the shaveing cream and did not like it at all...it left the skin feeling sqweeky and very strange, this went away about 10 min after shaveing but in my opinion it's not up to scratch.
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/anthony-logistics-shave-c-p_156.htm

MDFormulations:
this eye cream has glycolic acid in it so you need to use sunscreen! He liked this one a lot. I haven't repurchased - a little too pricey and he won't wear sunscreen!
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/md-formulations-men-vit-a-p_4321.htm

I've used the shaveing cream too but I am more of a shaveing foam person.

I realize the above doesn't really help you with your specific problem. But if I were you I would get him the decleor cleanser (it's exfoliating), shaveing foam, aftershave balm and a mattifying moisturizer - decleor do a good one for women, but you don't have to tell him that it's a womans cream if he's touchy about that http://www.essentialdayspa.com/decleor-new-purete-matt-o-p_4115.htm =good deal!

After you've got him started on this routine, and get him to stick to it, you can slowely upgrade him to a stronger cleanser like the MDF glycolic. Another good suggestion is to get him started on OCM (oil cleansing method,do a search). I know for a fact that this has helped loads of people with oily clogged skin to control the oilies and to unclog blackheads etc. One is Candy's hubby Laughing

Sweet story:
I managed to get to give the lovely bf a mini facial the other night, first time!...actually not even a mini facial LOL, I put cream on his face, with a promise that it wouldn't take more than 5 min! His skin is sagging and he doesn't take care of his skin as well as I do... So got him to wash his face with a cleanser - he wasn't actually going to use one, just splash his face coz he'd already washed his face twice (!). So I patiently explained to him that his face was dirty coz since he'd washed his face last he'd actually been sweating in a dusty environment (putting up spotlamps at my office). He got the point and did as he was told. Then I lay him down and smoothed some decleor oil over his face - comment was "I need more moisturizer than that don't I" , my reply "yes dear, I've only just started". Then he got a swipe of "eye'll be seeing you" (candessence) around each eye, gently massaged that in. Then PSF HA all over...he didn't like that initially - it was cold (poor thing Rolling Eyes ). Then a light PSF moisturizer (didn't want to scare him off with anything scented or "thick") and then Decleor Hydratenseur firming serum for his eyes. He was very relaxed when his 5 min were up and said he enjoyed it imensly (sp?)... So with a bit of luck I'll be allowed to play dolly with him again LOL

I hope this warbled post makes some sense and is of some help of some sorts Laughing

My DH will use some Nivea products but isn't consistent.

PCA has a men's line and here is the link. You can buy or view individually to see the ingredients.

This seems to be a popular line with spas around here.

My husband doesn't use any skin care products until I get him the Olay Complete Moisturizer w/ SPF15. Moisturizer + sunscreen all in one.

I also suggest the SpectroGel or SpectroDerm cleanser, it is my HG cleanser too!!

For some reason, my bf thinks using lip balm would makes him less of a man. I hate seeing him with chapped lips so I would always resort to plan B. I slap on a ton of lip balm and I smooch him. By the time he figures out what I was up too, it was too late. Laughing

I noticed that you were looking into Murad. I tried Murad and it made my skin so inflammed. I gave up after 6 weeks or so.

I got my husband to use DMAE serum for his eye area. I had to "remind" him the first couple of weeks but then he noticed that it was "working" so now I only have to remind him half the time--the other half, he does it on his own Laughing . That and an SPF moisturizer are the extent of what I've been able to get him to use. It DOES help a lot, if he sees visible results.

Hi Ruth Very Happy

Thank you so much for your help. It certainly is much appreciated. I've checked out the Decleor products you have recommended and they do sound pretty good. One thing though I had hardly heard of Decleor until I discovered EDS. It's just not big where I live at all (Thailand) and I'm not even sure if it's even available here. However, there seem to be a LOT of Decleor fan on EDS and I've read rave reviews about the products. Anyway, I think I'm gonna order the exfoliator for my boyfriend as I think it's gonna help getting rid of all the dead cells that are piled on his face! As for shaving products, he loves his Gillette shaving gel too much to give it up. The face moisturizer you recommended sounds really good as well, but is it necessary to use it with Ylang Ylang oil cuz there's no way he's gonna use it? Also, I'm an OMC fan myself and I've been using Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil for years. Do you think it'll be good for him as well, or can you recommend some other products? As for your very sweet story about facials, I've been giving him mini facials now and again (when I can persuade him to let me), but it's just a simple exfoliating and mask routine. He just keeps insisting that guys don't get facials! Argh! Anyway, thank you again Ruth. You're the sweetest!

Lynn

My brothers are crazy about Anthony Logistics. The blue algae cleanser, toner, mud mask. They always get it off EDS.

My SO likes a combination of Anthony and Kiehl's Ultra facial moisturizer.

I have heard that the men's line for Clarins is nice as well.

Laughing you're very welcome Lynn Very Happy

I've never tried any bought "ready made" cleansing oil (OCM), only made my own. But if the Shue Emura works for you it will work for him too, at least to some extent. But the best thing to do would be to custom make oil for him - then to teach him to use it and stick to it every day Laughing can't help you there unfortunately Laughing

No, you don't need to get him the ylang ylang oil to use in combo with the mattifying cream...he should be fine without it. The most important thing here is to get him started, not scare him off - then you can slowly get him to incorporate more products and all of a sudden skin care might be your combined hobby!!!! Another + with the mens decleor line is the lovely scent...mmmmm.... so yummy. It's a mixture of cloves and cinnamon and spices...really nice. Scent lingers for about 30 min max...

Good luck and let us know how things work out wave

Thank you so much guys for all your help and suggestions. I finally got my boyfriend to start doing a full routine: cleansing oil, face cleanser, toner, eye cream and moisturizer. I even got him to use lip balm a few times a day! So I'd say it's been a real successful attempt for me Very Happy He's been following the routine for 2 days now and still does it when I'm not awake or at home to remind him. He thinks it's funny that we spend some time together every evening going through the routine together. I don't think he actually enjoys pampering his skin (yet!!), but he certainly seems to be enjoying doing little things with me. Very Happy

Lynn

Hello again Ruth,

Thank you so much for your advice. I'd love to make my own cleansing oil, but it's nearly impossible to find the raw materials for it. Can you please briefly explain to me how to use DIY cleansing oil? According to Candy, it's not used the same way as Shu Cleansing Oil. Anyway, I've found a local brand of face cleanser for him. It's called Acne-Aid Liquid Cleanser and was recommended by a friend who's acne-prone. My boyfriend seems to like it better than the Shiseido Pureness one he was using before as it doesn't leave his skin feeling tight. However, I'm really interested in the Decleor Clean Up Daily Purifying Face Gel for men. Has your boyfriend tried it before? It seems there are lots of Decleor fans on EDS. I've never tried any before and would love to myself Very Happy

Hi Yen,

I've checked out the brand website and realized they don't ship to Thailand, unfortunately. Crying or Very sad I'd love to try out the products myself!

Hi Lynn,

My teen son uses Ice Elements and my bf uses a couple of Ice Elements products so far.

I had posted, I am pretty sure, not long ago about shaving with the gel cleanser, which is nice as it has a built in toner so it saves a lot of steps allowing a man to wash and shave all in one step... then he can move on from there depending on what he needs and how many products he would realistically use on a consistant basis.

I think that some men (and women too) are not going to keep up with an involved routine, even if it is good for their skin... If you can start with a good non drying cleanser and moisture lotion to get some hydration going, that would do well for his blackheads.

If you decide to go with Ice Elements, the IlluminEyes serum would also do well with his bags and dark circles and I would order the sample of the 2 minute miracle exfoliation gel for the cost of shipping. If you can get him to exfoliate, that would help him even more... and he might get a kick out of the exfoliation process of the 2mm, which may make him more likely to use it.

Whatever he chooses, I wish him luck!
Bosoxy.

PS. the product packaging is not girly at all. My son thinks that the face lotion jar looks cool as it looks like it is encased in an ice cube. Wink

If you interested in certified organic skin care you might want to try Gaia for Men. I use the complete line and really like the mint scent it has to it.

2 years ago I finally got hubby to try some of my stuff. After that he was using mens Clinique. Most of the time, womens products are just too fragranced or have foo-foo names. No way is my husband going to use something that has rose or pearl powder or lavendar or mentions 'softening' or 'glow'.

Overall the Clinique was okay because at least he was using SOMETHING but now I've got him using Dream Products by Denise. Since it's all hand-made (like Candy or Carekate's stuff) I get things unscented or 'manly' scents. It also helps that Denise's husband is the guinea pig so it has to pass his machoness.
