MAC mascaras often don't fare too well on MUA, but those I've tried have been fine. Nothing spectacular, but serviceable. It depends what you're looking for in a formula. Pro Long Lash lengthens lashes, but doesn't build thickness. Pro Lash adds a bit of fullness. Neither smears on me, which is something.

Years ago I used to use MAC's Mascara N for an everyday natural look - it's sort of like Definicils where it just defines and separates, doesn't really do anything else. I liked how it came in an assortment of colours. But then it got discontinued so I started to use Lancome. It's back now - not sure if it's still the same formula though. I did try Pro Lash before but didn't like it, too clumpy and heavy that it just weighed my lashes down, didn't do anything at all other than that.

I used to use Lancome Flextencils, then they came out with Hypnose and well I like them both - they're different in that Hypnose gives volume while Flextencila just curls. Now I use fatale and I think I like it as an everyday because it curls my straight asian lashes on its own and doesn't clump on me. Defines like a dream and holds all day. My next try is Chanel Inmitable (sp?).

I've also tried a few lash bases along the way - I actually like MAC prep and prime even though it only gets average reviews on MUA - I bought it when it first came out. I actually like it better than Lancome's Cils Booster as Lancome didn't do anything at all for my lashes. Now I'm using Shiseido Mascara base and it holds a curl better than the others but I hate how it makes my lashes really stiff. I also used Shiseido's Lasting Lift mascara and well - I don't think it's black enough and it just complements the base, I don't think it does much on its own. On its own I'd prefer Chanel's Extracils which is more black and gives more volume - but for curling on its own it's the same as Lasting Lift meaning it curls only a TINY bit.

I also tried samples of Clinique's High Impact which - didn't like, clumped, did nothing. Shiseido's Mascara (don't remember the name but it's the one with the comb head) and I like it for an everyday natural look more than MAC N and Definicils. I love the brush - it really defines and separates in one direction while applying color but I think I prefer fatale more although fatale is harder to use and more "wet" but gives more fullness than Shiseido.

Overall it depends on what sort of look you're going for. A lot of people swear by DiorShow which I have never tried and had no interest to try - I assume it gives dramatic volume but I don't like too much volume as a lot of times it just weighs my lashes down.

HTH on your mascara search

Hi sormuimui,
Thanks for such a thorough and helpful review!
I've been using mascara practically since the day I was born Smile , and i take mascara VERY seriously!
I'm also using fatale, and switch between it and Definicils, and l'Extreme (i always go back to lancome). I actually was asking about MAC b/c they are relatively cheap, and i would expect them to be quite good with mascara (my sister hired a makeup artist from MAC for her wedding this summer and I was introduced to their mascara then...). Ironically, I was trying to decide between MAC Fibre-rich or Pro Longlash, and Chanel's Inimitable....... I went with Clinique's High Definition Lashes Brush Then Comb Mascara Very Happy (I've used their lash doubling mascara & liked it)
Maybe I'll try the MAC prep and prime...
Thanks a lot!

I used to use MAC and Lancome mascaras all the time and recently I tried something new and cheap! Its Cover girl's exact lash- this mascara is amazing! It makes my lashes look miles long and seperates them nicley. The brush is really unique and make the lashes look really thick. But I have noticed that I can only use the tube for about 1-1.5 months before it starts to get clumpy. So I am buying it more often then I would have with Lancome. It also doesn't smear!

Ive try pro lash, zoom lash and fiber lash....hate them all. The only one I say that would not be so bad is X mascara. its really natural though.
