I recently have the same problem, too. I normally have acne on my forehead, but lately I got two on the side of my cheek. And they feel itchy. I found out that it's harder for them to heal, too. Even worse, they leave marks behind.
In my case, I applied my acne treatment with more amount and more frequently. But it burnt my skin. Now the skin near acne area is red and rough. So I would recommend to see a derm. doctor. |

I would think that itching would indicate that the area is swelling and inflamed. Because the skin is stretching to accommodate the erruption, it's bound to itch.
It could also mean, however, that there is some localized infection relative to the pimple. This is also why it would take longer to heal.
What you want to do is provide effective aninflammatory without overly drying out your skin.
Vichy makes a product called NORMADERM that does a good job of reducing inflammation and reducing the size of the pimple very quickly ... like overnight. It won't be gone overnight ... but it will become much less painful and any swelling will be almost gone.
The tube says "Active anti-imperfection concentrate" for "sudden localized breakouts".
I like my own DIY Pearl Paste better than this product ... but I did really like this product.
Hope this helps

I have always assumed its normal for the itching and have taken the will power not to itch. A good test of patients. |

Try applying tea tree oil to kill the bacteria. |
