If you have a regular hair stylist or esthetician that you visit, do you leave a bigger tip at Christmas time? |

Yes, I do tip more during holiday season. Sometimes few dollars can make other people so happy!!! |

Speaking of I have a cut and color this saturday, but I already tip over 30% to each which I didn't even realize I was doing. Most likely though, they'll get a little more since it was that time of year. |

For a regular hair stylist or esthetician you go to all year round, why not? If they treat you well and you appreciate them, it's a nice way of letting them know!
(I have a facial booked with a girlfriend on Dec. 29th. The esthetician is having a 2 for 1 sale, so our facial will be half off. However, I am still planning on tipping according to the full price of the service.) |

This is an interesting topic for me!!! I've never done "holiday tipping" before, but it occured to me this year that I probably should, so I started researching the topic on the internet.
I found that USPS people can't accept money, so if you think your postal person does a good job you should give them some kind of treat instead. Actually, I don't think my mail person does a good job--- whenever I get a package, instead of ringing my doorbell she just takes it back to the post office and has me come get it the next day, grrrrr!!! However, the people who actually work in the post office building itself always go out of their way for me, so I took them some chocolate-dipped fortune cookies. (It was DH's idea, actually--- I asked him what kind of treats he thought would be nice, and he suggested fortune cookies since we're a half-Chinese family^-^) I also took the same cookies to the people who work in the main office of my apartment building, and to the people who work in my dermatologist's office. (When my skin was at its worse I was in there like every week, so I definitely wanted to do something nice for them.) Also, I felt very deeply indebted to my vet and the people in his office because for the last 2 or 3 months Forest had been fighting an absess and we had to go in several times a week and they were SO kind and helpful to us. So, for the vet I had an ornament made with Forest's picture, and then for his staff I had some white-chocolate-dipped oreos printed with Forest's picture in edible ink and decorated with Xmas sprinkles.
As for actual monetary tips, I read a lot of conflicting information. Some websites said you should just tip a few dollars extra during the holidays, and some said you should actually give a tip the size of what an average salon visit costs you! I decided to take the middle road. To the girl who cuts and colors my hair, and cuts my DH's and sisters' hair I tipped $50, and then to my bikini/eyebrow waxer and my pedicurist I'm planning on tipping $20 each when I see them tomorrow. I hope it's ok...
I know this is a personal topic, but all this kind of stuff is new to me and I'm still trying to figure it all out, so if anyone else could share how much of a holiday tip they give people, or what else they do to show people appreciation this time of the year, I'd be very interested to read it! |

I always increase tips during the holidays. Usually double (40%) what I would normally tip (20%). I also give treats to USPS, my automechanic shop, etc. |

OKay I have a cut and color on sat...color is about $75 and cut is $65, I usually tip them about $25 each.
I was wondering what I should do since it's so close to Christmas, should I give a card to each of them with cash or like a gift card? If so how much? |

I think tipping more during the holidays should be a given. I waited tables and bartended for several years before having my baby. Servers work their butts off all the time and the holidays are madness for anyone in the service industry. Most people only tip 10-15% anyway so when you get something extra it really makes your day. Plus servers dont forget those who tip well and will make an extra effort to bend over backwards to make your experience great. |

If you tip that well to begin with I think a little box of Godiva or something with a personal touch would be really nice. A GC would be cool too for somewhere like Starbucks. |
