Have you tried mineral foundation??? I am 42 and love Pure Luxe. I tried Bare Minerals for a year or so, but the raves on this site for PL encouraged me to order some samples. The samples are a great way to get a color match and they are cheap. You can google Pure Luxe to read more about it.

I have combo skin (very acne prone) and I have lots of acne scars to cover up so good foundation is a must for me. I'm not sure what kind of coverage you are looking for but I love the following...

Laura Mercier: Silk Creme (full coverage) works great with the primer. This is my "going out" makeup.

Bare Essentials: Foundation (medium to light coverage). I use bisque to cover scars before I apply the foundation. Its my everyday foundation.

Revlon Colorstay: I have used this stuff for years. It does not break me out and it stays put! I wore this before I found Laura Mercier as my "going out" makeup. Really great coverage.

Tinted Moisturizers that I like
Dermalogica: I use light...it has some sparkle in it to make you look dewy...not over done but enough to work.

Juice Beauty Tinted Moisturizer: Very light and only comes in 1 color. Coverage light and it is not really moisturizing so I use it as a light foundation not a moisturizer.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer: Great Coverage for a TM. Again...not a lot of moisture so I use it as a foundation.

I hope these suggestions help. Foundations are my weakness...my makeup stand it FILLED with foundations....every brand/color/type.

Good luck

I have combination skin too and like the Prescriptives Flawless Skin foundation for when I am wearing makeup - it gives good coverage but doesn't feel too heavy. It has spf in it too which is always nice (although I tend to wear it more in the evening, so probably not essential for me!).

The Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Even Finish Compact foundation might be worth a try. I've been using it for years and like the finish and portability. I get shiny very quickly and this foundation is one of the better ones for me in this respect. You shouldn't need an additional concealer, unless you have major issues with dark circles. See if you can get a sample first as it's a bit over-priced IMO. I am loathe to recommend anything from the Estee Lauder conglomerate, but this one works for me.

I'm also trying out Alima and liking it. I'm new to minerals, so it took me a while to get the hang of it, but now that I "think" I have, I'm finding the Alima lasts very well, with minimal shine, and seems to look even better after a few hours, which you can't say about most foundations.

I'm not sure what sort of coverage you're looking for, but I love Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation, and Chanel Ultra Sheer Makeup. For a full coverage that needs to last through a long sweaty day, I would use Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick.

I would also suggest trying mineral makeup if you haven't yet. There are some great ones out there. Currently, I am using Valerie Beauty minerals in her Cover Deluxe formula -- it's fantastic!

You didn't mention if you experience any breakouts, but if you do, mineral makeup is definitely the way to go.

My favourite foundation and makeup is from Dr Hauschka. Great skin care line, superior ingredients and helps improve skin while covering blemishes and imperfections too. You just can't go wrong!

I'm in my 40's also. Switching to mineral makeup was the best decision for me. I get fewer pimples and when I do get them, they heal faster and are more easily covered with MMU.

When I first started, I felt like the MMU showed every pore and line on my face. So I added more moisturizer. Helped a lot. Then I get days when I get shiny. So I added finishing powder either before or after the MMU application. Also helped a lot. These 2 (moisturizer and finishing powder) helped me figure out the right balance for a great natural look -- I vary the amounts used of either as needed.

If one brand doesn't work, definitly give another brand a try. Samples are the best way to figure out all out!

I would recommned MMU too. I only started using it recently, I have combination skin and I'm 47.
I love Pure Luxe.

The colour matches are much more natural with mmu, as you can custom mix at home.

you can also layer according to how much coverage you need on any particular day.

Ahh... I answered your other thread, but I'll elaborate a little. Someone talked me into trying MK a few years ago. It went on really nicely and looked great. Problem is, I had an incredible reaction to it. I ended up in the doctor's office, and I have scars on my face on my upper neck area (where I smoothed it in) to this day. The doctor told me it was the MK, and as this was the only new product I'd tried, I'm positive she's right. I have talked to others who have had a similar reaction too. I will never touch another MK product as long as I live. I'd really recommend ANYTHING else - Wet n' Wild or whatever.

Tosca, I was re-reading trying to figure out where the MK came into play, then read your other post. MK as in Mary Kay? Because if that's the case, it just keeps suprising me how many people have commented on various boards about how MK makeup made their skin react badly. I wonder why this is. (I also avoid MK products, and I have several friends who sell it, so I frequently deflect sales pitches).

Yes, Marci. I was talking about Mary Kay. Sorry, I should've spelled it out at least once. I don't know what it is with their products because I honestly haven't done any research on them at all.

Yeah, I know what you mean about deflecting people. My husband's cousin sells the stuff, and I am constantly fighting her off because she wants to give me a makeover. It is honestly the worst of any product I have ever used.

I'm glad this question was asked because I'm almost out of my Aveeda tinted moisturizer and want to try mineral makeup. I've heard not to use mineral makeup if you're over 40 but apparently it's the choice of mineral makeup brands because you all seem to love mm. I'm 49 and don't wear anything but the tinted moisturizer and blush. The Pure Luxe site looks great, but so confusing. I'm assuming the folks at Pure Luxe will help me choose samples if I contact them by phone. Can you all tell me which products are the best to get from Pure Luxe.

I highly recommend MMU as well. Either Alima or Pure Luxe. There are also other brands out there that are worth exploring.

If you really want a liquid foundation, I suggest trying L'oreal's true match before venturing on to more expensive lines. I found this formula to be light and refreshing to use. As you're 42 years old, you would probably want to avoid cakey makeup that enhances any lines you might have. HTH!
