I went out of town to spend the holidays with my family for 3 weeks. Of all things I can't believe I left the bag I packed with all of my skincare essentials! Now I am left to stock up at the drugstore for my entire skincare regime. Would you please give recs on best drugstore finds for cleanser, toner, serums, moisturizer, sunscreen. TIA! |

I did that once with a makeup bag.
Assuming you're in the US, here are some recs. Best drugstore sunscreen: Neutrogena SPF 55 with helioplex. Cleanser: Neutrogena fresh foaming (n/o skin) or Cetaphil (n/d skin). Moisturizers: Aveeno (n/d skin). You don't really need a toner, but Aveeno might have a good option.
Let us know how it all works out! |

For cleanser, antioxidant serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen I like the Juice Organics line at CVS. |

Sorry I forgot to give you my skin type & current skincare regime. My skin is acne prone & I need acne/anti-aging skincare.
Current Routine:
Cleanser: Pure Minerals Mineral Melt (OCM)
Exfoliate: Epidermx II
Retin A Micro
Serums: Chrysalyx & Naturdermx & Skinceuticals C & E
Sunblock: Sofina Nuance
The Olay Regenerist line looks interesting. Anyone use this? |

From my personal perspective...don't waste your money on Olay Regenerist.
I know it's only for a short time, but this line in Olay (IMO) is terrible.
One of their products wrecked my skin...only used it a week, and it took a month to fix.

I do that all the time too! I always spend ages carefully putting all my skincare products in a wash bag, just to forget it at home. I'd recommend Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser, Evian spray as toner, Neutrogena moisturizer and sunscreen. |

Bummer! I have actually been in your shoes when my suitcase got lost at the airport for my entire trip. Luckily I had some of my things with me on my carry on. I have since re-thought what I luggage I check, if I check luggage at all.
Anyway, are you in an area where you are near a Sephora? You could try to obtain samples from them... they are always good about samples if by the manufactures or preparing them for you. If not, perhaps a department store could provide samples? There might be some lines that could tide you over until you get back to your own products...
As for the retin-A try to find the strongest retinol product OTC. Sorry, other than suggest the idea I cannot recommend a specific product.
Good luck! |

Ditto - though I only used it for a few days. I never had a moisturiser both clogging and flaking me at the same time |

I've only just started the Regenerist serum from Olay and I'm LOVING it so far. I is very hydrating (I use it under moisturizer) and really makes my skin feels like velvet. I use Juice Organics cleanser from a local drugstore and I have tried their serum/eye cream and tinted moisturizer. They were all nice. Not very hydrating so if this it what you need maybe the olay line is better for you. I have tried the regenerist 7 signs moisturizer before and didnt notice any dramatic results so I stopped using it.
Good luck...I hope you enjoy your holiday! |

Hi leidon - I agree that Sephora or some kind of salon or spa is a great idea if you can afford it. Otherwise...
A Roc product containing retinol may help take the place of your Rx retinoid. It won't be as strong of course. Use it at bedtime and don't bother with any retinol product that contains sunscreen.
I'm sure you can find some kind of manual exfoliator. Aveeno makes one that's very gentle.
The Neutrogena dry-finish SS made my eyes burn -- make sure you keep it away fron them if you opt for this product.
I'm not aware of any Vit.C products offered in drugstores, but I'm sure a larger store would have something -- if not C then some other kind of antioxidant.
Good luck -- this could be serendipitous and you could end up discovering something you actually prefer!!! |

Hopefully you are near a sephora/department store
for a sunscreen you can use neutragena's sensitive skin sunblock (titanium dioxide) or clarin's spf 40 from sephora's. For a cleanser there are plenty of good drugstore options like cetaphil's, or juice organics'. Sephora carries cellex-c vitamin C serum or you can get the juice beauty antioxidant serum, or the juice organic one from walgreens. Let us know how you manage! |

Oh No Leidon I feel for you! Are you near a Trader Joes's by any chance? If so, the Desert Essence face cleanser and jojoba oil would take care of all your skin care needs except for the sunscreen.
Or natural healthfood stores? They may carry Dr. H and you could get the travel kit for approx. $21 USD
If drugstore is all you can find, I'd go with Nuetrogena face soap and witch hazel toner. |

Yikes! The same thing happened to me on my way to Quebec City!! I forgot my meds as well and had to beg at the drugstore to get some!! As far as the skincare goes, I picked up ROC Protient Fortify line and really liked it! The Face Contour Firm and Lift Fluid and the Fortify eyelid lift are not bad at all!!! I actually ended up using it all up....The only thing I picked up that I hated was Neutrogena's Vitamin C ampoules...they were very oily and smelly...but the ROC line was really quite impressive - I was pleasantly surprised!

I think under these circumstances, the safest approach would be "first, do no harm." I'd be concerned about trying too many new things all at once, especially around the holidays when you want to look your best. I'd find the simplest routine and the most gentle of products to keep your skin clean and balanced, and maybe skip the anti-aging component for now and hold off on risking a bad reaction from an exfoliant you've never used before. Of the drug store brands, I think the "safest" are Neutrogena, Cetaphil, and Eucerin. Good luck! |

I agree with LandB, it's probably important to use simple products that won't cause a reaction. If you're in Canada, you can try spectro gel as a cleanser or use Nivea refreashing gel cleanser if you're in the States. The neutrogena dry touch sunblock in SPF30 is great and leaves a matte finish. Dove moisturizer is decent. |

OMG, I feel for you! I have heard good things about Juice Organics, and you can usually buy trial sizes at CVS which would mean if you don't like them you won't have wasted a lot of product. Also, look for Freeman products--- they are cheap but usually very gentle and lean more toward the natural ingredients.
Once when my husband and I took an overnight trip to see my husband's parents, I walked right out the door without my train case full of make up! Luckily I had an extra concealer and powder in my purse, but I had to run to a drugstore to get blush, mascara, etc--- I ended up hating all the stuff I bought and I threw it all out after the weekend was over... |

Oh how I wish I read your post sooner. I am totally breaking out! Knowing that my skin is acne prone, I should've known that trying a whole new line of skin care simultaneously would be a very BAD idea! It has taken me so long to clear my face up & in a matter of a day it's all gone to hell.
I will heed your advice & keep it very simple. I really just need to maintain & not get any new breakouts. You're so right in that the anti-aging bene's can wait until I get back home. I just need something that will keep me clear during the holidays. I'm going back to the ds to grab the Cetaphil cleanser & Neutrogena sunblock. I now need acne meds.
Any recs on fast acting d/s acne skincare? |

Hey leidon - If you can find AlphaHydrox Advanced Cream (it contains 10% AHA), this may help keep your acne in check. I take care of my handicapped brother who suffers from seborrheic dermatitis and acne. Nothing works like this stuff -- not even Rx products we've tried. It keeps his skin clear and nice looking. |

Thank you m.april for the AlphaHydrox Advanced Cream rec. So now on my shopping list are:
Cetaphil Cleanser
AlphaHydrox Advanced Cream
Neutrogena Sunblock
I'm not sure which moisturizer to get. Does the AlphaHydrox cream function as a moisturizer or just a treatment? |

I am usually so paranoid about losing my skincare & makeup by checking my luggage. So I usually hand carry those items. But, with all the new security measures, I'm afraid that they may take my precious makeup & skincare away! |

I'm so paranoid that with all the security measures, I take only directs flights when I go to Greece. Also, I'm the first one at the Baggage claim..heart beating till all luggage accounted for. |

I had never heard of the new security measure (the 3 oz. max) until I read it on EDS! I recently flew to Malaysia carrying all my full sized products with me in my carry on without any problems. But then again, no rule is really strictly enforced here in Southeast Asia esp. Thailand. |

Is it 3 oz. max TOTAL or per item? I don't think I have any expensive skincare product that's more than an ounce in net weight! I guess cleansers, toners, shampoos and the like would be bulkier.
I'm not even sure how strictly the rules are being enforced all over -- can we get any feedback on this? Maybe it would be a worthwhile new topic.
Ooops, ETA there's a thread in the Lounge about this very thing. |

The new Hawaiian Tropics SPF 30 faces oil free is pretty popular in MUA if you can get your hands on it |
