I'm bleeding while taking my low dose BC. (Alesse) I skip the sugar pills and take them back to back so I won't have to deal with a period...I've been doing this for awhile. I let myself flow once every 6 packages...

My question is this: What could cause this? Could it be eating things with estrogen in it etc..?

I don't know much about breakthrough bleeding as i've never experienced it while on the pill but maybe you can find answers in this forum:

I have been taking my birth control pill the same way for the last 3 years, and my OB doctor suggested me to do so at the beginning. Occasional spotting is the side effect, nothing seems affect it actually. It's just a natural thing when the endometrium lining has enough build up, it will shed naturally and cause slight bleeding or spotting. I usually stop my birth control pill for a week when I see some spotting, and ususally it will clear up in 2-3 days. Then I resume the pill later. I usually have periods 2-3 times a year.

I had breakthrough bleeding on this exact same pill after taking it for 6 years. I don't go back to back, but I keep having it the week right before my period. Got so bad it was like have one for almost two weeks.

My doctor tweaked my hormone level (she brought out a chart and knew which hormone I was low in during that week) and said that my hormones were probably changing or something with age...which is normal.

So she put me on another pill. She didn't say anything about eating or ingesting anything with hormones in it. It might just be time for a change in pill.

I would never just stop my pill randomly for a week and then start again...my body is too moody and I prefer not to have a kid as a result Laughing
I just keep taking it.

But I've had no breakthrough bleeding since switching pills.
