Hi,
I've been searching online, for a Canadian source, of a DIY glycolic acid facial peel (30% - 40%), with no luck.
Would anyone happen to know of a source?
I have been looking at Platinumskin and Makeup Artists choice, but the shipping would be more than the product itself Shock
I did find a source for 70% glycolic acid in B.C., but I'm not experienced nor brave enough to formulate my owns peels.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

You know, I've been wondering the same thing.
I just ordered a TCA sample from Platinum Skin Care and you're right, the shipping cost was about the same amount as the sample.

If you're in Vancouver, Kripps pharmacy on Granville St. carries their own glycolic acid in varying percentages.

My gosh...do people really use those percentage peels on their own!!!

Do you have any skin left afterwards......?

Even with relatively thick combo skin, I'd be terrified to use that strength.

How did you reach that level of potency?

I also have thick, combo skin. I've been using Neostrata's at-home exfoliating peel system, which is a 10% strength and it leaves no sign of irritation (as well as no sign of results). I'd like to ramp it up a bit.
Neostrata also has a 10% glycolic acid day cream which is supposed to be the max strength w/o irritation? Thus I have to wonder about the efficiency of the peel at 10%. (I assume the pH of the peel is lower though, therefor a greater risk of skin irritation)

Hi Cowgirl:

Yeah, I have Neostrata's peel system too, only used it once (no particular reason...well, maybe cuz it takes longer than their microdermabrasion system) & I experienced no irritation either.

The occasion I did use the peel , really liked it. But wow, to jump to 30-40%!!! And on your own w/out supervision.....you are brave. But then your id Cowgirl may explain that.

Would love to here a follow-up from you after you've tried it. Gosh...am trembling at the thot of it. But as they say, it's no skin off my nose.

a big good luck

Oh I agree with cowgirlz! Don't do this! I wouldn't do more than 10%. If you go thru Kripps, they'll guide you thru safely.

I've tried the 30% Glycolic Acid at larachem. I bought the 8oz bottle and it has lasted me for over 1 year. Frankly it's not as scary as it might seem. I had about 2 peels done at a spa so I felt confident that my skin could take the 30% glycolic acid. I think that their products are well priced versus having these peels done at a spa or salon.

I've used peels at this percentage with no bad effects. I definitely got some skin brightening, but my skin did not peel off in nasty layers like TCA peels. You do have to build up, though.

Oh, mine always went absolutely fine: Stinging while you have it on, of course, immediate skin brightening, and then a little mild peeling around my nose. I cannot stress enough that you have to work up to that level, though.

I chickened out Smile
I ended up purchasing a 15% and a 35% fruit acid peel online and just received them yesterday.

Will try the 15% for a few weeks and then slowly work my way up to the 35%

Thanks for the earlier input everyone.

Probably a good decision Cowgirlzz. You don't want to start out really high.
