It's used mostly for naturpathic applications. Some use it as a topical disinfectant, others take it internally to battle bacterial and viral infections. I grew up where every time I came down with a cold or the flu here my dad would come with the colloidal silver in a dropper bottle. I currenly use it on any open wounds/sores and also, my dad is happy to know, if I come down with a cold or the flu. |

I have used it topically as a disinfectant, also, but I haven't (and wouldn't) take it internally. There are a lot of people who feel that it can be safely used internally... here is an interesting article: http://www.cqs.com/silver.htm |

That is indeed an interesting article. It seems to me though that the author of that article is particularly focused on SeaSilver and orients his arguements with that company and the type of silver product they produce.
Yes, I would say that using c.s. topically is the safest application. I guess I didn't specify that when I was sick my dad would have me gargle with it and then spit it out. (I have to admit that I am not persistent in using it when I am sick which, thankfully, is not often). I'll have to share that article with my dad. Perhaps he has changed his views on using c.s. since I was younger. I myself didn't realize that the FDA had a final ruling on OTC colloidal silver in '99. I know that there are several different methods used to produce c.s. and most of which produce a silver product that is uneffective and/or can cause argyria which in my opinion is definitely a sign that it is doing harm to one's body. |
