Hello
I'm 51 and just started using Cellex C, its the first 'proper' face cream I've really used. However, I find that when I apply it (bedtime) my face feels quite tingly and slightly painful, by morning this has worn off. Has anyone else used this product and had the same sensations. I'd also be very interested to know If its as good as the advertisements. I have quite a few lines, large pores and hope that cellex c will improve my complection.
Thank you in advance

Kaz,
If you are using a really high concentration C (like 25% or something like that), it will definitely be irritating. Sheldon Pinnell, M.D, and godfather of topical C says that anything over 10-15% is just wasted. Maybe if your concentration is high, you could back off a bit. Also, you really should use C inthe AM. You want to take advantage of the antioxidant properties it has - during the day - when you are exposed to UV light and smoke, etc. C stops free radical damage from occurring - thus your skin gets firmer, more toned looking, less blotchy, etc. Also, you should make sure that the C is in a low ph formula so it's easily absorbed and not irritating. C shouldn't be used with Retin-A, etc. at the same time - way too irritating to combine them all. So use C in AM and other Rx products at night...Sorry so long, hope it helps....

Sounds like your skin may be too sensitive for the concentration of vit C that is in the cream. Btw, when you say "just started", how long do you mean? When I first started using vit C serum I had a tingly/stinging sensation the first few times - then my skin got used to it I guess.

I'd just like to point out what Betterat40 pointed out too - I've read that it is more beneficial if you use vit C in the morning - for exactly the reasons that Betterat40 mentioned.

Thanks for all your replies, I'm not that clued up on forum's so please excuse me.

I started using Cellex C skin firming plus just over a week ago. The lady in the salon where I bought it didn't seem all that clued up on the product. I did ring her today though and asked whether it should still be irritating me after using for one week. She said yes, it showed that it was working effectively.
I've been using at bedtime as advised by the salon, but it makes more sense to use it during the day to help with all the polutants etc that are in the air. I was afraid though that I might get a reaction with the sun.
Another query of mine was that the cream is a yellowy colour, which I aked about, she said that was the normal colour. All of a sudden I feel a bit disheartened. It was quite expensive $100Cdn. so I feel I must continue using it.
Thank you ever so much all of those who have replied to my enquiry. I would be very greatful for anymore information /suggestions you may have.

Dear Kaz
I think the Vit C concentration in the Cellex C Firming Cream is 15%. This is a relatively high concentration as the concentration for the serum for Sensitive Skin is only 7.5%. Depending on different brands, from 7.5%, one can progress to 10%, 15%, 17.5% and 20%.

When I first started, my skin could only deal with the 7.5% concentration without reacting. After one year, I am now using the 20% concentration.

I agree with the rest that you should use this in the day. If you are having a reaction like red bumps, I'd suggest to apply on alternate days to allow your skin to get accustom to it. Do not be discouraged. I am glad to say that my skin tone and clarity definitely benefitted from Vit C.

Hi Kaz,

I'm not sure what the normal colour of the cream should be. I know the serums are slightly yellow and get darker and darker (heading towards orange) as they get oxidised. However the cream could be yellow coloured to begin with. In fact, have a read of what it says about the colour of it here: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/Cellex-C_Skin_Firming_Cream_Plus_(60ml).htm

If I were in your shoes, I would continue using the cream as long as I wasn't getting too much discomfort. There's a difference between a few minutes of slight stinging/tingling and continued painful stinging. The other thing I would try would be to dilute the cream a bit. I have NO idea if that is the right thing to do - but I would probably mix a bit of the cream with a few drops of a hydrating serum for a few days. And then start decreasing the amount of whatever I'm mixing in (probably a B5 gel or something with hyaluronic acid). Is there someone here who is "chemistry savvy" enough to confirm if that would actually dilute the concentration?

IMO, sounds like if you have to go to all this trouble for this to work for you, that you should simply return it and exchange for a lower concentration product. Later, you can always return to a higher concentration product....It is also possible that it isn't the C in the cream that is bothering your skin - what else is in there? The serums are simpler with fewer ingredients...I don't know what is in their cream.

Once again, thank you all for your replies, its really put my mind at ease. The website link from Mabsy was very very helpful - it seems my worries were in vein regarding the colour of the cream and the tingling sensation. I will start diluting it - another excellent suggestion.

I didn't have any red bumps as such, just a tingling irritation and from what I've just read is normal so will keep on using the cream.

For those of you who have been using it for some time: have you noticed a significant difference? did it help with fine lines etc.?

Thank you all so much, I'm really greatful that you've take the time to reply.

Hi Kaz,

I can't comment in terms of effectiveness because I use it as a preventative measure. I did notice a more even skin tone though with using it. A while ago I gave my mum (in her 50s) a bottle of the Skinceuticals vit C 10% serum and she used up the whole bottle. I'm not sure what the results were in terms of lines, but there was a noticeable difference in her complexion. She had very tired looking greyish skin - and that's where she saw most difference after starting to use the serum. Her skin looked brighter and more even. She also did comment that she felt that the texture of her skin had improved a lot and that it felt firmer.
