Like what the question implies? How do u tell which undertone of foundation to use? And what happen if u use a pink undertone foundation on someone with a yellow undertone skin or vice versa? |

here's a faily helpful thread on this topic
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=2703&highlight=undertone
If you use a foundation that doesn't match your undertones, you might end up looking washed out, jaundiced, orange, or just have a face that doesn't match your neck. Some people are neutral toned and can wear foundations with different undertones. Generally you determine your undertones by thinking about what colors suit you best -- the first place to start is to find out whether you look best in warm or cool colors (warm is gold, cool is silver, for example).

I look good in both rust, and deepest blue. Is that warm or cold?
I think I have a neutral complexion.. I know if a make up is yellow toned it's flattering, if it's pink toned I feel unnatural looking, and more 'made up'.
I think it's a tremendous relief when one finally finds the make up that actually matches one's skintone. And it's surprisingly difficult.
Lately I found it, and I've been wearing foundation for 20 ish years. My make up 'matched' and 'worked' but now it's invisible.
I think it's a matter of persistence, and for me it's been using mmu and doing some blending. |

I know what works for me, and since I have redness problems I like using yellow toned foundations. |

I'm unsure what undertone I'm but I'm more of a cool undertone. I have pale skin that gets pink quite easily. I'm asian btw. If I used a yellow undertone foundation, I found that under certain lighting, it makes me look yellowish. Now I'm using both a pink and yellow undertone powder foundation. It seems to brighten my skin up a bit without giving me that yellowish cast. So my conclusion is probably use a combination of both a pink/ yellow undertone foundation? |

I realized that a yellow tone foundation will cut down the redness on ur face quite effectively compared to a pink tone foundation. But somehow, it seems a yellow tone foundation gives me an unattractive yellowish cast to it whereas a pink one doesn't. The one I'm using is actually both a pink & yellow undertone powder foundation so maybe it balances it out a bit? Anyone here using a similar foundation like that? |
