redhead,
are you suffering from eczema and/or rosacea? yes, please let us know what you are using and your skin type, and I'm sure EDS members will be able to give you some excellent recommendations... drinking water is the first line of defense, don't stop!

If this has continued for a long time, you may want to consider seeing a dermatologist or your regular doctor. Sometimes feelings of being dehydrated (and having it show on skin) despite increased water consumption, can be a symptom of a more serious health problem. Water and skin creams won't improve those in the longrun and may mask the need for early treatment of a real health issue. |

Have you considered going natural? After a lifetime of using moisturisers I find emu far better than any of them. Or if you are squeamish or vegetarian jojoba oil. |

I would suggest a gel-ish texture toner, e.g. Lancome pink one, called comfort something or Living Nature extra hydrating gel. It works beautifully when i have those flaky bits on the edge of my nostrils that just wont go away. |

redhead--i had the same problem. my skin used to be oily last year but this year, i am feeling really dry, especially the cheeks. i tried exfoliating with epidermx or the BBS dead sea facial scrub, but i still ended up with flakey skin.
i even cracked open dr. brandt's infinite moisture facial lotion and i was still peeling.
i then eyed my trial sized jan marini bioglycolic facial lotion, applied it at night and voila, my skin is so soft the next morning and i had absolutely no flakes. i love this stuff! it does sting a little the first couple times.

Lots of useful ideas here already.
red head, I just wondered if maybe you have other symptoms.. if you google on 'pitta' and 'ayurveda' you may or may not recognise your profile. ie it could be you have a build up of internal heat. drinking some aloe vera and eating cucumber are some cooling remedies.
have you tried a yoghurt, honey, and cucumber mix on your dry red patches? might be worth a daily course of treatments. |

thanks for all the suggestions= I actually tried a sample of my friends La Mer along with my Dermoligica Ultra Calming Cleanser and after 3 days all the redness has gone. I also bought the .99 cent version Nivea in the tin (not the gergman one) and it sinks right in also. We will see how this works. i tried the Jane marini and it burned the heck out of my face. even once a week |

My mom has started the Elizabeth Grant and told me that it helps her dry skin. She lives in Alberta, north of Edmonton. |

Have you considered Dead Sea Salts? I use the salts and soap in the bath weekly and also use the soap for my face when I look dehydrated and tight. Dead Sea Salt is wondrous for regular dry skin and exzema and psoriasis. It moisturizes and softens.
I buy the salts and the soap fromwww.4-dry-skin-natural-products.com . This brand is also carried at larger healthfood stores like Whole Foods Market here in Texas and, I suspect, Trader Joe's, as well.

While initially, my thoughts are to point you to emu oil (I use the Dremu - you can get it here at EDS - it is one of my most recent "loves") once again, I can't disagree with SusieQ re: the Elizabeth Grant creams. I've made this point in another post but I'll say it again: When I moved up to Northern BC my skin got fiercely dry and irritated...I didn't have access to high end products (and I didn't know about EDS) so I (in desperation) ordered EG creams from the Canadian SHopping Channel. The creams are almost gel-like in texture and they are magnificent for treating dehydration and sore, reddened skin. They SAVED me!! I always have a jar of EG cream on hand..As a matter of fact, I ordered some today! (Eliz Grant is the TSC showstopper)...I don't use it all the time but I'll tell ya' - you'll have a hard time getting a better bang for your buck.. IMHO, this stuff delivers big time - if you are very cash-conscientous, I highly recommend giving this stuff a shot!

Thanks for the heads up about Elizabeth Grant on The Shopping Channel. I usually don't watch the show, so I wouldn't have known. I ordered the Show Stopper. A really good deal. Can't wait to try her products as my skin has really been dehydrated lately in this cold Canadian weather. I'll review after trying this for a few weeks. |
