This may be a weird question, but a friend told me that if you pop a pimple, put neosporin on it over night and it should reduce inflammation and help let it heal...is that true??

For me it helps reduce redness but does nothing when it comes to size/pain/lifespan. Other acne products are just as good in disinfecting so I don't use it.

I would think that the Neosporin may help to prevent the bacteria from the burst pimple from spreading and creating more acne lesions, however the ointment is petroleum based so I am not sure if it would be your best bet to apply to acne prone skin.

Aloe vera is excellent for reducing redness... If you apply a thin coat to the area and cover with a warm moist cloth for a few minutes (20 or so if you have the time) that should help the area with the redness. Aloe also has antibacterial properties, making it a plus to use.

Take care.
Bosoxy.

Yes, it works great, even when the skin isn't unbroken and even if the zit is kind of subterranean. I would never have dreamed of using it on pimples until I read about it another board. I wouldn't put it all over my face, though.

Hm..might give this a try for spot treatment. Does it matter which Neosporin it is? Currently I am using the Burts Bee diaper rash for acne spot treatment and it's great.

Yes. If you think about it a zit is just an infected pore and neosporin is used to fight infection.

Neosporing helps heal my cuts/burns, but clogs my pores if I put it on my entire face.

I have used neosporin on zits and the subteranian spots with great success. However, that was before Burt's Bees Diaper Cream - this would be what I would try first now - it wasn't around way back when.

I suggest using Neosporin on just popped or open blemishes; I think it helps fight infection (antibotic formula)

I don't think it helps prevents pimples.

I only use it as a spot treatment.

I have used it as you say, due to the open skin and not wanting to get infection. So I will do that the first night. After that, there has been no benefit to using Neo for me.

Neosporing helps heal my cuts, but does not work on my pimples.

For some reason a lot of derms and pediatricians prefer Polysporin. Really don't know what the difference is though.

I can say that it seems like there is less of a scar or red mark left after a pimple when I use either neosporin or polysporin.

I also agree that it's probably best to use it as a spot treatment. Several weeks ago I had a huge pimple that seemed a bit infected and without thinking my mom told me to put Neosporin on it. Well I was desperate and by the morning I couldn't believe how much it had gone down!! Although now that Salli mentioned the Burt's Bees diaper cream I am intrigued.... Smile
