Last night I did my taxes for the first time myself. I usually have H&R Block do them for $200.00. My daughter convinced me to give TurboTax (on line) a try. Had my taxes done in a little over an hour. It was rediculously easy. TurboTax guided me though each step. They also asked every question possible so I would get either the best return or pay as little as possible. It cost me $58.00. The best part is I am getting $$$$ back. I choose electronic filing. Should have our return deposited in our checking account in seven to 10 days.
Usually I wait until last minute to file. I am so proud that I could do this myself. Never too old to learn something new. |

Winnie, do they give you any kind of protection like H&R Block does? |

I know they guarantee the best return or they will match it. At the end of my filing they did offer me representation if I was audited. I declined (probably 20.00 more) as I have never been audited and do not have the typical profile for such. My deductions are very typical. If, for example, you claimed thousands of dollars in donations a red flag would possible come up on your return.
H&R Block represents you (goes with you) if audited. However, the client is the one that gives them the information. When it comes down to it we are responsible for what deductions we claim. |

I buy UFile at Futureshop for $19.95. It's so easy and I've always gotten a higher refund than I thought I would get with this software. |

I hand it to my SO and I think he buys some tax software. I love doing nothing |

I've been doing my own taxes since I was 22 and always found it really simple to do. The forms are self explanatory and the guides can be helpful as well (as though sometimes they've confused me and I had to call to speak with a real person at Revenue Canada.) I've been able to get myself pretty good returns too. I think if you'r tax return isn't too complicated - just basic employment, home and investment stuff, than anyone should be able to do it themselves. |

We buy the software, print the forms and mail them. We don't submit it electronically. |

I don't read mine either! I never would have admitted that before, though. |

I always do my returns by hand. My returns are so simple so I never bothered to purchase the tax softwares. I also do my siblings' returns by hand. I should start charging them. |

Do them myself.
Other than a period of several years, I've done them myself since high school. Let me tell ya, the forms and rules have gotten sooo much easier. |

I tend to trust a professional more than myself when it comes to filing. I'm just afraid I'll make a mistake. |

CPA firm does them. Being self-employed we have a ton of deduction and schedules so can't take a chance. |

We have a bunch of strange deductions for my husbands job. To me, it's not worth itemizing each meal, travel day, or pair of pants. That's why it all goes to a professional. |

I have a professional do mine. The laws seem to be tweaked every year so to avoid any scary moments with the tax man I go professional. |
