Hi everyone-
I was on this site about 4 yrs ago and was doing research on melasma. I said I would get back to everyone. Many people sent me their 'story', and told me about their lifestyle, stressors, etc. There was one commonality amongst everyone- a LOT of stress. Well, I have been studying and researching chinese medicine, acupuncture and herbs this whole time and I really think I have figured out why this is occurring in the body. Its a hormonal imbalance because of the adrenal glands, usually being quite depleted or exhausted. The adrenals are small organs that sit on top of the kidneys and are what gets affected by the 'fight of flight response'. In our stressed out society, people are having a fight or flight response often. Then the adrenals burn out. When this happens, it disrupts the whole hormonal cascade in the body because this is the basis of hormone regulation. When the estrogens, progesterones, testosterones, aldosterones, etc get off balance and the body is deficient of blood, body fluids and secretions the liver becomes affected and toxic, thus causing the spots on the face. I have treated myself with herbs, acupuncture and a lot of TLC and my melasma is basically gone. I did have a mild case but it was quite pronounced at one point in time. Now I can go out in the sun, go tanning, whatever...and I dont have the spots. All these creams and garbage are just like a bandaid for what is really going on underneath the surface. The book that I would recommend getting is called, 'Adrenal Fatigue- The 21st Century Stress Syndrome' and I would highly recommend going to see a GOOD(meaning well known and someone with a good reputation) acupuncturist/doctor of chinese medicine. If you have questions/comments you can email me and I will likely be putting a website together to do consultations for people. This IS a reversible condition.....its just the body's way of letting us know when we are out of balance. I am a firm believer that we all can get back in balance. Good luck and best wishes to |

I would be interested to know what herbs you used. Although I guess that would vary according to the individual.
When your website is up and running, I'd like to see it. |
