I told my husband a couple of weeks ago that I had ordered something for his skin. He suffers from really severe rosacea. He's had it most of his adult life (we are 46) and has been on daily minocycline or tetracyline for 20+ years, plus a multitude of rx topicals. Nothing has ever seemed to help so when I hear about anything at all that would help with it, I order it.
Someone said emu oil might help with rosacea so I ordered Dremu oil and tried it myself for a week or so, then told him yesterday I had placed it on the bathroom sink so he could try it. I thought I told him the name of it, but could be I didn't. A bit ago I walked in and found him slathering, yes SLATHERING my Rx Tazorac 1% all over his face! He said it was the third time he used it. Once yesterday, this morning and again this evening.
I made him immediately wash his face with Dr. H cleasing milk and then apply lots of the Dremu. I feel so bad that I was careless in leaving the Tazorac lying around. What else can I do for him? He's already suffered so much with his face. I know his face is going to be a wreck in 3-4 days.
Any suggestions appreciated!

Rosehip Oil works extremely well for severe cases of rosacea, eczema, psoriasis and other skin disorders. It's the only oil I trust for these kinds of skin disorders. I suggest you get him a good bottle or organic Rosehip oil and have him use it in the am and pm. Just add a few drops to the palm, rub hands together and massage onto face. He should begin to see some results within a week to 2 weeks of regular use. I wish you guys the best of luck and really hope he feels better soon. |

Thanks wildflower! I will pick up some tomorrow. Do you think there's anything we can use that will lessen the effects of using so much of the Tazorac? |

Do you have any calendula cream that you can slather on his face for the time being? That should help soothe some of the irritation for now. Do you have any Dr H Rose Day Cream? That may help as well. |

Holy Smokes - I feel awful for him - yikes! Phredd4, I think I'd take him to the doctor - with his skin being as sensitive as it is, I'd explore what prescription-strength options are out there that might help him get through the next 4 or 5 days!
Good luck - let us know how he does

Think I have a sample tube of the rose cream. I'll make him put that on. Thanks again!
I wouldn't worry so much, but he did really slather it on. He's in management in the coal industry and for the next few days he will be undergroud in the mine with inspectors. Not a great environment to be in if you've just starting using a retinoid!
I remember when I was using Taz along with Obagi products and the wreck my face was in. |

Thanks Pudoodles. I will keep you posted. Let this be a lesson to everyone! Keep the retinoids out of reach from children and husbands! |

Hi phredd4 - I doubt if it would happen, but wouldn't it be a happy accident if Tazorac ultimately improved his skin?
Keep us posted! |

I doubt that will happen too, but we can always hope!
It was funny now that I think about it. When I saw him with all that cream on his face, then looked and saw he had in one hand the tazorac tube and a whole palmful of it sqeezed out of it in the other getting ready to apply again, I screamed "OMG NO!", and literally slapped it out of his hand onto the floor and stuck his hands in water to wash it off. Scared the bejeebies out of him!
Poor guy. Just a week or so ago I noticed him rubbing Shower to Shower body powder all over his arms and legs in a really slow manner, making sure to put extra on his elbows, etc. I asked him what was up. His reply? "My skin is all dried out and flakey so I wanted to moisturize it." |

if you can get your hands on a niacinamide cream (some are over the counter, ask you pharmacist) these are specially designed to reduce side effects of retinoids. |

Cheri,
My mom has bouts with rosacea. They are mostly weather related (ie: she needs to be careful about going out when it's windy and/or very hot outside).
For the past year or so she's been using Rosaliac from La Roche Posay and loves it.
http://www.dermstore.com/product_Rosaliac_4988.htm
She swears by Neutrogena sunscreens - most other regular sunscreens (physical or chemical) irritate her skin.
I know that my local CVS pharmacy now carries LaRoche Posay, so maybe they carry the Rosaliac too?
