The gel liner is a pigmented heavier gel/cream base. You usually use a flat liner brush to apply it although I guess you can use a pointy brush too. The liquid liner (at least the ones I've used) are truly liquid and usually need a finer point brush for application.
I can control the gel liner better. My friend likes the liquid liner because she likes the "sweeping" effect she can do with it since it is a liquid. I'm not good at the "sweeping" effect so the gel is more idiot proof for me. |

The gel is thicker like a cream. Gel stays on longer for me too. I prefer gel over liquid.  |
