I posted under the dermaplaning thread about this but thought I'd start a separate thread to gain attention & didn't see anything in a Search.
I read on another site about a woman whose beauty secret is using a Ruby Stone file on her skin as a form of dermabrasion:
http://spectacularskin.com/forum/forum_entry.php?id=10938
This was in response to someone posting about the more expensive Dermafile which has diamondswww.dermafile.com
Has anyone used the Dermafile? And, if so, I was wondering how different their grit is from about Diamancel files made for hands and feet. I don't want to do damage to my skin but it is an interesting idea. |

Thought I'd bump up this topic to see if there was any more feedback on the dermafile: www.dermafile.com
In the meantime, I'm thinking of shaving my face as a form of "dermaplaning"/ increasing exfoliation of skin. |

I've got to agree with you. I keep thinking of the people out there who think more is more and how they'd end up with a bloody mess. |

IMO, it's a form of microdermabrasion / exfoliation. Some of the pluses of the dermafile method are no use of chemicals, less messy than creams, and you don't have to keep buying products as the file lasts a long time (made with fine diamonds).
I have heard good feedback from estheticians who use the dermafile. Most of them that use the file prefer this process to traditional in-salon microdermabrasion. They feel they have more control over the process than with blasting crystals. It's also healthier for them - I didn't really think of it, but they also breathe in those crystals... The files are also highly portable versus a big professional size microdermabrasion machine. |

Call me crazy; but I distrust a professional vendor who spells "gentle" wrong on the product label. |

Hello,
I'm a licensed California esthetician and have been offering the professional Dermafile treatments since 2007.
Dermafiles were invented by a Florida esthetician to treat her clients with severe sun-damage. They are an alternative to both machine microdermabrasion and chemical peels.
For a short time, there was a home-care version, called MyDermafile. These are no longer available.
The new professional files, Dermafile Pro are only available to licensed professionals.
There is nothing "scary" about a Dermafile treatment. It is essentially doing a diamond-tip microdermabrasion treatment by hand, without the suction of the machine. In fact, a Dermafile treatment is a much better alternative for clients with sensitive or thin skin because there is no suction that can break fragile capillaries.
Dermafiles are also a safe alternative to dermaplaning which in many states is illegal for estheticians to perform.
For a listing of professional estheticians can perform the Dermafile treatment, go to their website and look for a listing of Dermafile professionals. |
