| On makeupartistchoice.com there glycolic acid 1% is 60.00.On ebay you can buy glycolic acid starting at 8.00 pr bottle.Why the wide variation in price? Glycolic acid is glycolic acid right? |

That's what I would have thought. Maybe the more expensive one, you're paying for the name rather than the ingredients? |

| I bought my RL for $89 (now it's only $69) on ebay. On Athena web site, it was selling for $150 or so. I have NO IDEA how Ebay sellers can sell things at such a cheap price. I'd like to know their secrets, too. I just bought a 1 oz pure helichrysum oil on ebay for just $40. The same size oil was sold on another site for $88 or more. I continue to be amazed and keep buying from ebay. hehe |

I found this on an Ebay buying guide:
"Glycolic Acid is a generic name for the base product. It comes in two grades - and the grade defines the purity. First, there's the cosmetic grade. This is the only kind you want on your skin. And it isn't cheap. Next, there's the tech grade. What is tech grade? It's floor cleaner. And, it's cheap."
It doesn't tell you how to tell the difference. I would be way too scared to buy the cheap stuff.
Found this too at wisegeek.com:
"Glycolic acid is perhaps the best-known of a group of chemicals called fruit acids or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA). It is derived from sugar cane, so it can be considered a natural product. Citric acid from oranges and other citrus fruits also fall under the same classification as glycolic acid.
Industrial uses for glycolic acid include rust removal and degreasing, so pure glycolic acid (generally sold in concentrations of 70% or better) is extremely dangerous to exposed skin. In fact, the government considers any product with a concentration of glycolic acid over 10% to be a hazardous material." |

I think it depends on the pH as well as the % Also you could be getting better quality stuff from some places and lower quality on ebay. I have seen emu on ebay being sold as 'dremu' but from the description it is just regular emu oil, not the clear or the winterised 'ultra'.
That said, there is no reason for super high prices of stuff like GA, whatever the % or pH |

i bought ADSM BEVERLY HILLS glycolic acid 50% from ebay...
it wasn't that expensive, $17.50 for 2 oz, and has been working really well!
it is sold as "medical grade"
i was a bit scared to try it at first, but have been doing a weekly application ( 6 weeks on, 4 weeks off,) on both mine (fair skin) and my husbands skin (mixed , black/white skin) and qe have both had remarkable improvements in the look and feel of our skin...
i have ordered some emu oil and hyaluronic acid from them too, which i have yet to recieve...
i tried searching on different forums to see if others had tried their products but didn't come up with much, but they have excellent feedback, and so far i have been happy with the outcome of them, so??? |

shame you deleted whatever you had to say, as any information, whether it is a new discussion, or an old one, is informtive for people to read and learn!!!!
i have learnt all about diy peels from searching posts on a few skincare forums on the subject, after realising i would not be able to afford to get them done any other way, and the date they were posted makes no difference to whether the it is informative or not! |
