Sorry, weird title. I'm just watching Oprah and I'm so disappointed. I hope it's not true because the doc said nothing on the market works. Basically he said all the suction treatments on the market just swells the cells up.The consolation? "Guys don't care that much" I don't think so- Cellulite is gross and I'm sure guys would rather have a non-cellulite afflicted girl than one with some. |

Now he's saying most sun damage occurs before 20..once you lose elasticiy, you can't get it back. Also SPF protection only refers to UVB rays but it's the UVA rays that cause aging. Ahh, what a depressing hour. |

I've never met Dr. Oz and already I don't like him!
BTW, I don't think just because he's a doctor that he knows EVERYTHING there is to know about what works and what doesn't in skincare. It would be impossible for one person to have all that knowledge, so I guess I'm saying he might just be full of cr@p. Oh, and he's probably selling something, too!
Besides, the ladies here on EDS are proof enough that some stuff does work for some people as far as diminishing cellulite AND improving elasticity. |

I think if a guy who cares about some cellulite then maybe he is not the one |

I was waiting with bated breath until he said there was no cure! Endermologie treatments make the area look so much better but the effects never lasted.
I enjoy his spots on Oprah though - he seems down to earth and sraight to the point - crotch grabbing and all! |

On the one hand: it's useful to have debunkers who make it clear there's no miracle solutions.
On the other hand: I find it damaging to be told 'nothing works', as it's so dispiriting, it gives a dead beat attitude which makes one want to give up and do nothing to lessen the problem.
On a spare hand:: smt104 this is one of the reasons why EDS is so great, because we dont have authority figures making out minds up for us. We information share, and tell one another what works for us and what doesnt. |

Pffft.... who the f**k is Dr. Oz (sorry).
I wouldn't take him any more seriously than some asshole who got on there and was pimping some product that promised an overnite miracle.
Unless someone is presenting some hard clinical proof, I'm not that interested in breakthrough hype. And, somehow, I'm thinking that those who are involved in serious research don't end up on Oprah. |

You took the words right out of my mouth! I don't know who he is either, but I don't think he can proclaim across the board that "nothing works". And like MermaidGirl said, there are plenty of examples on EDS of women who HAVE found something that does improve the condition of cellulite!

Oz is a cardiovascular surgeon for pete's sake!!! Oprah initially brought him onto the show to talk about heart related issues...this mushroomed into shows about organ damage and your diet - blah, blah, blah. For whatever bizarre reason, Oprah has taken a shine to this guy and now has him as a regular every month. What tic's me off the most is this heart surgeon has appointed himself as an authority on EVERYTHING - including the RIGHT way you wipe yourself after urinating!!!!! . That did it for me - I officially stopped watching this guy (and by extension Oprah) last year after he announced that the right way to wipe yourself after urinating is front to back...not back to front. In fact "dabbing" is even better than wiping back to front. Now I don't know about everyone else, but to me the "back to front" swipe does not include your bum so why this is an issue is beyond me!
Anyway, I digress...you get my point (hopefully) that he is a cardiovascular specialist and not the man you want to be discussing your cellulite (or wiping habits ) with!! |

That is so true! The ones that really buy into her and whatever she's touting on any given day seem to follow her like sheep.

And sadly a 'few of Oprah's likes' have gone pear shaped.
Yup! Me thinks give that ol' Dr Oz a right royal kick in the heiney and tell him to stick to the heart and leave our butts alone!! |

I've been told by a doctor that while the only way you can get rid of cellulite is to REMOVE those fat cells (meanign surgery), you can MINIMIZE the APPEARANCE. That is what those creams do. You cannot remove cellulite with a cream you put on your skin...and those massage thingies don't remove the cellulite either, they massage the tissue to make it appear less "cellulite-y"
Tightening creams do just that...tighten the skin. They don't tighten the tissue underneath.
He has a point regarding there is no "over the counter" cure for it...only reducing it's appearance.
20/20 did a study on cellulite removal...most treaments didn't do anything. Those that did had temporary effects.
Sigh. |

Ugh...I think you may be right. I know a lot of people love him, but he strikes me as a pompous ass who thinks he knows everything about everything. I will never forget when he tried becoming a diet guru with his own book and line of food products...give me a break! Not like he's obese or anything, but that is not someone I would look to and say, "Yeah, show me how to get fit!"
Okay...off the Phil-bashing soapbox...for now...

Mary, my DH went to a Dr. Phil weekend retreat pre-Oprah. DH says he nothing but a big bully and then some things I shall not repeat in the company of all you lovely ladies. |

Salli, I'm sorry your DH had such a lousy experience with this moron...and I totally believe everything he said about him. Dr. Phil thinks he's giving "tough love" or "just being honest"...but he strikes me as hurtful, mean spirited and - like DH said - a big bully! I really wish he would go away...

Mary, Dr. Phil and I have different definitions of tough love and honesty. I personally think the man is a totally self-righteous moron who enjoys tearing people apart for his own amusement and financial gain. |

Salli, I think you've got him completely pegged. If you watch him on tv, it's easy to see that there is a certain gleam in his eye as he rips into people..."for their own good" of course (yeah, right!). I have a feeling his ego will be his undoing at some point...hopefully sooner rather than later!

Yes, hopefully sooner rather than later. I shudder to think of what kind of psychological damage he could do to an unsuspecting sensitive soul. |
